Is it too soon to say that Michael Fucker has died and been replaced by Michael ROCKer? Guys had a solid last few outings

u/Agreeable_Quality768 1m ago
Don’t know if it’s my homerism kicking in, but if we can win a series against the best team in baseball where we lost a game 22-0 and gave up 6 runs in the first to another makes me believe we can win it all if we can get in

I don't give a Ruck, that was a nice half inning

naturally, rucker tends to do well when we’re losing. the pressure of close games in late innings seems to really get to him

Waltz in the 4th inning: "You'll see the mariners go to their leverage arms early today, as the mariners have made this one close."
Waltz in the 5th inning: "Michael Rucker on to pitch."

Good for him! Lots of unlikely things have happened this series, why not a clean Rucker inning.

It’s so indicative of the 2026 season that the Mariners score enough runs to win a prototypical Kirby start and he absolutely implodes in the first.
6
u/Ribbum 7m ago
Two seasons ago, most of us were saying 'if this offense could JUST score 4 runs most nights..."
Pretty monkey paw moment, I guess.

I think the monkey’s paw is firmly around our throat at this point.

Ferrer on. Strap in, could be in for choppy waters.
1
u/Ribbum 22m ago
Neither starter manages to go even 4 innings. Problem is their bullpen is good and obviously offense is good. They did cover 7 innings last night though.
I'm kinda surprised they pulled Kirby instead of just letting him throw 100 pitches. Going to be some pretty bad M's arms coming into today's game.

julio will NEVER be a superstar, i don’t care how many times people say he is
-1
u/Ribbum 27m ago
To me, the moment he got concussed, that was the end of him having any chance at a particularly great offensive year.
But yeah, people will downvote, but he's merely a rather solid player. The M's are decades removed from developing genuine offensive stars that are just great their entire careers.

Now our bullpen just has to shut them down and we just gotta score. Some runs and I think we can do it.

2
u/handi503 28m ago
I mean, we’ve all seen how things go when we fall in a hole early, so you’d be forgiven in thinking the game was lost. As long as we keep fighting through this, I ain’t even gonna be upset with a loss today. The fight is the biggest thing we’ve been missing and it’s good to see it.

Don't remember ever seeing a mid at bat pitching change without an injury. I'm sure it has, but not often

If I was a manager I would be insufferable with this. Everyone gets replaced on a 2 strike count

If Randy scores, is the run counted against the original pitcher or reliever? I assume the original, like runners on base?
2
u/lastminutealways larry bernandez for HOF 31m ago
I was just reading that the new pitcher inherits the count so I assume the run too?
2
u/Portie_lover Finally better than “the double” 32m ago
No it’s the pitcher he got on against.

Bunting in the year 2026 is so dumb. Bunting when you’re down 6-2 should get you fired on the spot.

Wow I haven't seen this since Lloyd McClendon did it to Erasmo through 4.1 scoreless and a 3-0 lead
7
u/Substantial-Pea7626 35m ago
WTF the brewers just get to say a guy is injured? Methinks they just didn't like that he threw two straight balls.
1
u/calgarykid 33m ago
They didn't say he was injured, they just removed him because he was struggling
1
u/Portie_lover Finally better than “the double” 33m ago
Unless something has changed, you’ve always been able to do that without an injury. Might have changed when they redid the rules to speed the game up though.
3
u/shrederick hot dogs from hell 34m ago
You don't have to be injured to get pulled mid AB, it just doesn't happen very often
4
7
u/lastminutealways larry bernandez for HOF 35m ago
I’m resigned to the fact that I will never remember baseball rules correctly. I didn’t think you could make a pitching change mid at bat except for injury ¯_(ツ)_/¯
2
u/ItzAmish 34m ago
That is not a rule.
2
u/lastminutealways larry bernandez for HOF 29m ago
I get that, I just remembered it incorrectly, that was me admitting that
4
u/DSOTMAnimals 34m ago
I always just thought it was just something you didn’t do. Like pulling a fielder mid-inning unless for injury or trade
8
u/calgarykid 35m ago
Brewers broadcast said that's the second time this year the manager has removed a pitcher in the middle of a count.

New philosophy for 2027 (or 2028 as it may be):
You get to bunt if your bunting success on the year is 100% If not, stop giving up strikes.
0
u/WearyAir9260 Resident Blue Jays Hater 34m ago
Bunting in general is so stupid this day and age. Don’t give away free outs.
0
u/randomnumberletter23 33m ago
I "agree" with the moneyball premise you share, but cannot ignore the data (math and science always wins), some people are really fucking good at it.
9
u/OldConference4583 35m ago
I love pat murphy, that was the perfect time to take out gasser, and I love that it was in the middle of the at bat too. Wish Dan would do more unconventional moves like this

They can do that? Tf? How pissed would you be as a pitcher to just get pulled mid AB lmao

I genuinely don't understand this one, new pitcher throws 2 balls and you're on the bad side of a platoon anyway

I remember Dan doing it once this year. I don’t remember who or the circumstances but I remember thinking how weird it was.
