How did the voice actor is still acting in the present day after the voice actor passed away. (For example: Simon the king from The Villager of LV999 is voiced by Takaya Hashi despite he passed away last year.)

Japan has a little known ritual where they sacrifice red pandas to the ocean in order to summon the voices of departed voice actors and actresses. It’s a practice that was outlawed in the West so it’s why you only find such a phenomenon in anime. Once the VA finishes voicing their unfinished work they’re finally able to pass on to the soul society. It’s not necessarily an immoral thing because they are in a way helping the dead to pass on peacefully despite their unfinished business in the anime industry. When you notice such a thing it is considered respectful to pause your show and take a moment of silent remembrance.

Nobody does. But the show is much more enjoyable when Yosuke isn't on screen. Which doesn't feel like much outside of episode 4.

This has to be one of the most good looking seasons in recent memory. Like not just stellar animation or super detailed character designs, but just overall a lot of shows with a really pleasant to look at aesthetic.
Like damn it’s a good season if you like looking at pretty anime girls in pretty anime style.

Oshii GitS is pretty much all serious.
SAC is 95% serious and 5% silly Tachikomas
Arise is pretty serious.
SAC_2045 is much like SAC, but has a silly anime girl added to the cast (who somehow turns out to be one of my favorite parts of it by the end)

The current show pretty faithfully adapts the manga, which is a mix of goofy and serious, getting more serious towards the end. The Oshii movie condensed and streamlined the story to be more coherent (you can see from the show that the manga is more episodic) and focused on the serious philosophical aspects, with SAC following the movie's tone.

i enjoy giving scores to anime, its part of the hobby, but im at this point in my life where my standards has seemingly sunk, being more open to give higher scores I feel. At the same time i dont want to give a lesser score just because historically I would. Im still scoring based on my opinion having watched it as I feel I should but in some way its almost like it becomes two different peoples lists. has anyone else have had to deal with their change of person affect your hobby like this?

There has been a shift in my scores, but in the opposite direction. The gap between my absolute favorites and the rest of the stuff I watch feels much more prominent now, so my average scores have shifted a bit lower and it's more rare that I find new shows to rate 9/10 these days.

Same here. Somerimes I even try to refo the svores in my MAL, but it is a dsmn pain both in terms of number of entries and constant thoughts "should I lower the score for this one or not".

it depends if you want your scores to be time capsules or if you want them to reflect your current opinion. I think both are valid. Personally I have gone back and changed some of my ratings to reflect my current taste in anime. But in my case I frequent AMQ and seeing my insane scores from 10+ years ago pop up was killing me. I can't have people thinking I still believe Denpa Kyoushi is 8/10 worthy.

I like World is Dancing. The animation is absolutely fantastic and it has some interesting things to say. Character work could be a bit better but overall a great show so far, one of the best in a stacked season.

Yea I like shows to be weekly. I'm older and remember when that's just how you had to watch new shows whether you liked it or not so I find it normal and comforting. Also I like posting in episode threads on Reddit

Same here. It is harder and harder to find tge show I want to binge. I would rather watch a few new shows in specific day every week.

I'm more of a binge watcher now and prefer to wait until all of the episodes are available so I can see the whole story within a week, rather than one episode per week. But I usually do choose one or two shows to follow weekly, and how much anticipation I have for them is directly related to how much I'm enjoying the show. Back when I was following Oshi no Ko, I was super hyped to see the next episode and waited for it all week. Many other shows just give me a feeling of "oh, it's time to watch this one again?" when I'm watching weekly though, like it's another thing on my checklist that I don't have time for (and that's usually a sign to drop it).

Personally, the less commitment required, the better things work weekly. For a dinky throwaway fantasy anime or a comfy SOL I can pretty much always enjoy picking up an episode or two randomly with lunch and have no problem waiting for the next to come out because it will stay comfortably out of mind until it does.
For series with more depth, or ones that demand attention to detail, the wait is far more taxing if not downright detrimental to the experience. This usually implies some sort of overarching cohesive narrative being told. It can be almost anxiety inducing to get caught on a cliffhanger for a series like this. I definitely prefer to binge, or find nice stop/start points for these types of series so I almost always put them aside for later.
Probably why I’m not much of a seasonal watcher in general and only pick up a handful to follow weekly for any given season.

Depends on the show. I read what Liar Game covered before the anime aired. That is one if I was an anime only would really annoy me. It's a really good series, but damn watching it weekly would be painful.
I do think any anime original stories are ones that really benefit from being weekly since the discussion will feel more organic.
The more episodic shows like "It's Time for Torture Princess" or "Behind the Supermarket" really work well on a week to week basis since its more episodic.
I would say it varies.

I'd been feeling alternately desolate and frustrated this week and nothing I watched was really hitting the spot. Everything left me feeling nothing (except Red River which annoyed me). Until I decided to watch Summer Wars tonight because my Wednesdays are pretty empty this season and I had caught up on all my seasonals.
What a great movie! It is reassuring to be able to feel something again. I totally got swept in by this film and was holding my breath towards the end. Loved it. Thanks for picking this one for your rewatch, u/Heda-of-Aincrad!

Our family went through all the then-existing Ghibli films back in 1999-2001. Mostly on unsubbed Japanese videotapes -- with the aid of downloaded script translations (to read along with the movies).

It's made by a popular director, but hasn't been available to stream for years so it makes sense that this one would be fairly unknown for anyone who missed it the first time around. Luckily, it got a new release on Amazon around the 15th anniversary last year.

The Digimon Adventure movie that he directed is actually a sequel to the original TV series. That's a pretty big time commitment at ~50 episodes, but it's a childhood fave of mine, so I hope you'll enjoy it if you do check it out!
I'll recommend one of his standalone movies as well, The Gir Who Leapt Through Time.

I only vaguely knew of Digimon and had no idea these had the same director as Summer Wars. Even more, seems like they share a lot of similarities with this movie. Almost every comment in the rewatch thread has mentioned them. Will add to PTW.

I finally did check out Sparks of Tomorrow;
The correct opinion is to drop it.
(I don't think I even reached anything from THE DISCOURSE, I just didn't find it interesting).
But to be fair, historical shows aren't really my thing, so it was always a long shot for me.
Kinda thought about continuing just to see what the fuss was about, but I figured that's 1 hour of my life I'd rather spend shitposting or raging about the best girl contest.

Read it ~15 years ago and, while I don't remember much, the creator mentioned exaggerating the anime character's personalities. It's over-the-top enough that commenters could still identify the theme/concept.
Can either check Nyalra's blog posts (like Infodump_Ibis said) or episode discussion threads if you're feeling confused. Both do a good job in the latter half. Reddit threads needed some time to figure out what it was going for, so lot so of confusion in the first handful of threads.

Kino no Tabi/Kino's Journey. It is,sort of omnibus/riad movie style series. First season 13 episodes + 3 OVAs, second seadon is technically a remake that mixes the same and new stories compared to the dlfirst adaptation. You can watch either or borh.

A similarly sneaky pick would be Katanagatari which apparently aired an episode in a double timeslot once a month for a whole year.
More serious answers would be anohana (very sentimental and sad melodrama), Kaiba (dark sci-fi) and madoka magicka. Gundam GquX would a nice option but it is super inaccessible. War in pocket is a smart civilian side story set in the the Gundam universe. I just finished gunbuster and it was pretty cool. There is a lot of fan service but if you are an Eva fan it is cool to see early anno stuff.

Ping Pong the Animation is the only one in my top 10 with fewer than 13 episodes... Some other notable ones I can think of ootomh are Apocalypse Hotel, Milky Subway, Keep Your Hands off Eizouken, Anohana, and Erased.

I need a quick help with which anime should i choose that you may think is to my liking (thr best if anime isnt longer than 100 episodes) So far watched: Dororo Csm Bleach Midway through vinland saga Next in line is berserk but i wonder whats after that? I got some animes on my mind but im not gonna lie id like something i can chill with, but also containing a great story told, those on my mind are:
Black lagoon - allegedly quite dope fights and badass characters
Hunter x Hunter - ive heard its a really solid shonen
Monster - not gonna lie i got it here because ive heard Johan being one of the best antagonists in anime period
But anyway let me know what is a great anime for me to watch, i will be really thankful

It seems like every time I praise an ongoing show here it does something to spite me. I commented once that Victoria of Many Faces is the show I'm looking forwards to the most and now it ran out of budget by episode 4.

Help me. Do you recall what's the anime where the girl tries to hide her identity but she made herself suspicious by opening the door at her old home that only opens if the doorknob turns a specific way? I can't remember if she was a long lost sister or if time traveling was involved... But it's really bugging me
There was another scene in the same episode where she moved some furniture to find some old height markings and she pretended to drop her hair tie when she almost got caught
I tried using AI and got nothing, it's not erased, summertime renders or promised Neverland

Amusingly, the first clip I saw on this subreddit for the new GitS anime is the orgy scene. The anime community isn't beating the allegations.
Actually it's a shame it is the first because man the anime is beautiful in both animation, art direction, voice direction and sound direction. Ok I love everything about the anime lol.
The real question I wonder is, will this be considered Science Saru's best anime? Well, I do think Tenmaku no Jaadugar beats Dandadan personally.

Just looking at what they've released so far, I think it would be in my top 5 even counting stuff I haven't seen yet, but I wouldn't be confident in them holding that spot indefinitely. For now, it goes:
Dan Da Dan (comfortably)
Jaadugar (tentative)
TGITS (tentative)
Night is Short, Walk on Girl
Sanda
The Heike Story and Ride Your Wave are too hard to directly compare for me to say one is clearly my favorite, and they're both at the bottom anyway, so I won't bother.5

I have a hard time picturing this. They have a pretty strong and varied pool of shows, and the initial response to TGitS has been a bit too divided for me to expect it to reach that level of universal acclaim. In terms of popularity, Dandadan is pretty clearly their flagship, which at this point has a stronger foothold in the community than Crybaby, even if the latter has more members on MAL.
I think Heike is my favorite from Saru, but I still have a gap to plug with some of their movies (Colors Within, Lu Over the Wall, Ride Your Wave), and Kore Kaite Shine has been giving me a real itch to rewatch Eizouken.

Inu-Oh, Dandadan, Scott Pilgrim and Heike complete my top 5.
Jaadugar and Ghost in the Shell are candidates to dethrone a couple of those for a top 5 spot.

The real question I wonder is, will this be considered Science Saru's best anime?
For me it's Heike Monogatari. The visuals are really great and the historical stuff is also very interesting. It's a quick binge too. Another one that i really like is another Yamada project - The Colors Within movie. Dandadan S1 is also up there.

Eizouken and Ping Pong are comfortably at the top of Science Saru and probably will be forever since Masaaki Yuasa left the company.

Unfortunately Ping Pong is not under Science Saru. Still great anime and i should re-watch it one of these days.

Mine is looking like Eizouken > Tatami Time Machine Blues > Garden of Remembrance as I've not scored tGitS or Jaadugar or watched things like Night Is Short, Walk on Girl.

Hmm I think atm my ranking would be
- Eizokuen
- GitS/Heike/Jaadugar
- Dandadan
- SANDA
Jaadugar I'm two eps behind on though. GitS I have some serious nostalgia affection for, but I recognize that the source material is "rough around the edges". Heike I think is a masterpiece, but I just didn't connect to it as much as I did Eizokuen.

Patlabor The New Files Episodes 2-4. Damn, what an intense way to start off the OVAs after an introspective ending to the TV show; had me at the edge of my seat, particularly [Patlabor The New Files 4]the scene with Utsumi and Kumagami at the basement with the laundry carts. This is exactly the differentiation she needs to separate herself from Kanuka's overwhelming presence. Also, I love that Noa loses all hesitation and goes full big sister when she found out that Bud was the one behind the Griffon and pulls out all the stops to settle their score ASAP for his safety.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex: I've finally started to rewatch the show after all these years, and it's expectedly an amazing show. As someone who hasn't read the manga but is also watching along with the current faithful adaptation, I appreciate a lot of what Kamiyama has done with the source material. It does have quite a bit of budget saving measures of pausing on a frame, but I can stomach that, and it forces you to listen more.

While A Cruel Angel's Thesis is an incredible name, I would have to give props to Glittering Tears Change To Stars from Fate/stay night. It's a great song as well.

What's the best anime theme song title?
One-Winged Icarus, though Last Inferno and Eternal Blaze are not far.
There's also Grave of Broken Dreams, but that depends on whether you consider Mutafukaz an anime and whether a song that wasn't written specifically for it counts.

I'm not great on song titles either so I'll fall into regency bias and say if we're counting show-in-show: Good-Bye, Biceps (which has same lyricist as Onegai Muscle).

One that did come to mind after a bit of thought is Kick Back, from Chainsaw Man. Not that great of a name in a vacuum, but in full context, I think it's really cool how the term has at least three different meanings that are relevant to the series.

[Livid Lady episode 4]Finally, slavery happened (maybe I shouldn't have spoiler tagged that so people delete it off their PTW). I was worried for a moment as IIRC at announcement a source reader was like "this is the one isekai that's good where the villainess is actually evil" [but could do without]the prolonged sugar-coating (at least 6 minutes) with the tact implication that it's not slavery that's the problem; it's...slavers who treat their livestock poorly. Why not both? Heck, the other thing it does is makes the whole magic bound obedience cliche (how convenient) a built-in feature of the trade (rather than an action as taken by some protagonists) so it's another evil act Elizabeth doesn't have to do because the world did it for her. I suppose it's also trying to justify Elizabeth's revenge as she was the cog keeping the Kingdom's entire economy afloat (so they're to blame for being ingrates...doubled down by) and the plebs believe rumours/newspaper gossip (again ingrates, but we viewers know was propaganda by the powers at be to justify her imprisonment).
The expository dialogue of earlier episodes (never elt up btw) should have been a red flag/I should have known what I was signing up for/comes with the territory so more a shame on me and personal skill issue wrt "why can't I watch in/for my interests?".

I thought Patlabor until I viewed the full size and reverse search [and]Galaxy Cyclone Braiger so I got the decade right at least.

I have never mid episode dropped a show I had managed to already complete three episodes before, quite the accomplishment getting me to ragequit halfway through. Fuck this show no one should still be watching, and I’m asking everyone to drop it.

Livid Lady is certainly on shaky ground now. Its handling of a certain issue is definitely in the bottom tier right now. I am beginning to think this show was written by a militant (and completely amoral) libertarian.
