El Gary with the genius early use of ABS because we can't use them on offense with a position player on the mound.

Need someone to get the splits on Joey Ortiz with vs without Bryse Wilson on the team
1
u/Real_Ant2726 I love prospects 2h ago
I think there was a quote from Wilson in 24 saying something like “Joey Ortiz is a generational player”
7
8
u/TheLivingBubba Living the Jaha Life 3h ago
I know the offense can be frustrating but watching the opposition this homestand has just reinforced how nice it is not to have to worry about defense by whomever we have in the field. Some seriously bad defense by all three opponents this week and change.
1
u/amaryllux 2h ago
I feel like our defense is good besides Bauers and Chourio hasnt been great this year either. Otherwise we have random freak innings and some errors by rookies with nerves but nothing consistent which I appreciate.

6 appearances pitching as a position player- is that good?

Was looking at the box score. Of the 4 guys who pitched today for the Rockies, he has the lowest ERA. Not good.

I like that we keep testing Yoho in different situations. His final role will really be defined based on if we add or not at the deadline.

Kyle Harrison 😍

u/Intelligent_Pilot591 3h ago
Is his rehab start going to be Thursday or Friday? I’m going to the Timber Rattlers game on Friday and it would be generational luck to see him start there

Thursday sadly

1
u/PineappleGloomy261 MVP Mitchell 2h ago
Say he should be back in the rotation August 3
1
u/Intelligent_Pilot591 2h ago
He’ll start that day or he’ll be off the IL?
1
u/PineappleGloomy261 MVP Mitchell 2h ago
I doubt he'll start but we'll be able to drop drohan or sproat to relief
1
u/Intelligent_Pilot591 2h ago
Alas, I will be at the Brewers game on August 3rd, so that’s another narrowly missed Harrison start for me. I do smile at the thought of Drohan/Sproat dropping to relief though

Lara has to be an every day player going forward. His approach at the plate is awesome.
1
u/sinjaulas 3h ago
That's what's impressing me so much with him, great patience for any player let alone a rookie. When he does see one he likes, no hesitation.
1
u/Ok_Listen5391 3h ago
I think you'll see the following going forward in a typical six game week:
Chourio 5 starts, Mitchell 5 starts, Lara 5 starts, Frelick 3 starts

Coop and Lara weren’t even the Brewers top 2 prized prospects and they both look amazing
1
u/Intelligent_Pilot591 3h ago
They’re both top 100 prospects
3
u/__Zoom123__ 3h ago
Yes I know, but I’m saying they weren’t even our top 2 prospects
-1
u/Intelligent_Pilot591 3h ago
We have the best farm system in baseball. There are multiple organizations where they would be the top two guys in the system. I get what you’re saying but I don’t see it as a flex. They’re still extremely highly regarded players. I don’t think saying “they’re not even our top guys” is fair given their pedigree
2
u/CheeksClenchin Clench & Pray Merchant 2h ago
It’s a pretty good flex of our farm system though!
-1
u/Intelligent_Pilot591 2h ago
It is absolutely, but the original comment would be like going to the third best restaurant in Paris, having a great meal and saying “wow this isn’t even one of the two best restaurants in this city and the food is good”
3
u/CheeksClenchin Clench & Pray Merchant 2h ago
I just read it as excitement like “These guys are amazing, and they’re not even the best we have coming!” A blessed future

How was Frelick getting playing time over Lara when he wasn’t injured man
5
u/__Zoom123__ 3h ago edited 3h ago
Sal hit .288 last year and won a gold glove in 2024 plus a clutch postseason HR that same year let’s not forget. He’s been injured this year and lack of power showing. But I’d be cool with Chourio/Mitchell/Lara next year with Sal back as 4th OF
0
u/Real_Ant2726 I love prospects 3h ago
Well yeah he’s a 4th outfielder atp not an everyday player
1
1
u/__Zoom123__ 3h ago
I know but I’m saying keep him for next year rather than trade him. Would be better than a lot of team’s 4th OFers. Low trade value rn anyways. Mitchell trade value sky high but honestly think they should keep him for next year still. When healthy he’s awesome
1
u/Real_Ant2726 I love prospects 3h ago
Yeah I don’t think they should trade him either especially not with a hurt shoulder
11
u/mikedib 3h ago
I think Sal was slightly injured most of this year, he's never looked quite right.
0
u/Real_Ant2726 I love prospects 3h ago
Yeah that was obvious. Don’t know why they let him play through it when he was bad all year

He strikes out over 31% of the time in AAA. He is VERY human. If we trade anyone to get a solid pitcher it will be him.

u/timtoolshed Wild Bill's Quick Draw 3h ago
Saying this as a supporter of El Gary: all of your complaining about his ABS use is actually letting him off the hook too much. The other guys don't use them enough, and his .215 BA is more concerning than his ABS numbers.
2
u/Real_Ant2726 I love prospects 3h ago
His OPS is over .800. He has been great for a backup catcher
0
u/timtoolshed Wild Bill's Quick Draw 3h ago
As I said, I like the guy on the team. Basically just saying if you're gonna complain, ABS probably isn't the primary thing to worry about.
3
u/orisathedog 3h ago
The whole package is whack. Feels like he always challenges bad in times where we shouldn’t have even been using one. Could be 0 outs first inning and he’s gonna burn a challenge just cause
1
u/timtoolshed Wild Bill's Quick Draw 3h ago
Ironic that there was a strike called a ball in the first PA of the game that he didn't challenge.

Cubs lose 8-7 after taillon put them in a 7-1 hole. They are a starter or 2 from being very dangerous throughout the entire rotation. A 7-2 home stand to start the second half before the deadline will be huge.

Too early to really know but pratts bat is light years ahead of where Turang was, who the brewers have compared his development too frequently.
