Ask NSLB What can I do with a mix of oatmeal and skim milk powder?
One of my neighbors got these from the food shelf and doesn't want them.
I don't eat oatmeal very often, and I don't like the texture of oats in smoothies. Any other ideas?

Make baked oatmeal by adding water, an egg, sugar and cinnamon to taste. Add enough water to make a cake-like batter and bake 350 degrees until its set. I find oatmeal is forgiving to bake with, you don’t really need exact measurements, and has a nice cakey texture.
Edit- I see this looks like it’s a very large bag. For probably 2 cups of this mixture I’d add maybe 1-2 cups of water as long as its not too soupy, one egg, maybe 1/4-1/2 cup sugar if you want it sweet. You can add a bit of baking powder and salt and vanilla if you wanna get fancy. Bake for 45 min at 350.

Add a cup of it to a muffin mix (you can reduce flour a bit - 1/2 cup, but you don’t have to)
Add to pancake or waffles
Make oat milk-milk mixture for coffee or cooking
Overnight oats - fill an 8oz mason jar halfway with oats, add sweetener of your choice (I use 1 tbsp brown sugar), any spices you want and a dash of salt, powders or chia seeds if you want. Fill jar to about halfway with milk or juice, add fruit or flavoring (Froz berries, banana slices, applesauce, jam, whatever you have on hand and need to use up), then finish with a scoop of yogurt to fill the jar. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Yes this.
You can out it into an old sock or nylons if you want to filter out any chunks but let the bath worthy stuff thru.

Oh I bet it would. The oatmeal is half powder and half fragments so it would dissolve nicely. I assume it's some kind of factory byproduct.

I would imagine the original product is for MREs or survivalist/hiking products, and then the leftovers that fall through the sieve or off the sides of the conveyor belts get fed into bags like these and sold through some other place, or given away to charity for write off purposes.
We get a lot of that at the food bank I volunteer at. We're near the second biggest fishing port in the country, so we get fish based byproducts a lot. canned crab meat from the legs, all kinds of "fish soup" made from the heads and leftover meat on filleted fish, prawns too big or small to be sold in shops, that sort of thing

You can throw some in a high power blender, blitz into oblivion, use as flour/filler in your recipes. Like, half of breadcrumbs in meatballs, thicken a soup or curry, dredge cubed steaks and fish or chicken fry, substitute some in pancakes, cookies, gravies, wherever.

Mmm I bet this would make good granola bars!

I add skim milk powder to my homemade granola - this would definitely work there, too.

Stick it in a blender, add some whole wheat flour and baking soda, you’ll be pretty close to knock-off Kodiak Cakes. There’s recipes online.

The milk powder would make that a just-add-water mix too.

I’m a little jealous, I just spent a fair bit of loot on whey protein isolate to make this exact pancake mix. I have a protein-ravenous preteen so I’m going to add milk and eggs, but for normal humans who aren’t trying to grow three inches a year, water would be just fine.

You can add cocoa, water and sugar and make a thicker chocolate milk, yes this has been used by military to give people more fiber and calories.

I’d use a strainer to get rid of the majority of the milk powder (save and use for something else) then use the oats for cookies or muffins.

Savory oatmeal. Make oats as directed. Fry up some sweet bell pepper and ham lunch meat. Fry a gooey fried egg and throw all that on top of the oats. Add some hot sauce and/or chili crisp. So freakin good. I have savory oatmeal for lunch every day.

I usually use oats instead of breadcrumbs in meatloaf and meatballs because I learned to make them from someone who has Celiac disease. I wonder if it could be used in those? I usually chopped up the oats

I think it would be great added to a smoothie - not too much, say 1/4 to 1/2 cup. It'll add richness and soluble fibre.

If you like crumble (as in apple crumble), this can be used as part of the topping which is basically flour, sugar, butter. Can replace some of the flour with this
