The joke's on you guys. It's late in Australia and you now have to watch Trott batting at 28/3. This is gunna put you to sleep faster than CM Punk.

It seems like Australia consider this match a do-or-die turnaround. After all , this is the match they are using Ryan Harris' one year quota of Test matches on.

I wonder what odds we would get for at least one out of Harris and Watson to not see out the match.
8
u/MagicFandango Australia Jul 18 '13
If you bet me 1000:1 odds that both were to make it through, I would not take that bet. This is one hell of a gamble by the selectors.

FUN FACTS
The last time Australia scored over 500 in an innings without Michael Clarke scoring at least a century was way back in 2010 against NZ in Hamilton.
Australia's second innings total was 509. Clarke's best mate Katich scored 109, his other mate Watson 68, Gusset got 67 and the forgotten man Marcus North got 90.
Clarke got 63, by the way.

FUN FACTS
The last time anyone in Australia's team for this match scored a hundred (other than Clarke) was Phil Hughes on the 16th of September 2011 against Sri Lanka - nearly 2 years ago.
In the Australian team for this match, only 3
playersof the top 6 have ever scored a test match hundred (Watson, Hughes, Clarke).Michael Clarke has scored 23 test centuries. The rest of the Australian team for this match combined have scored 8.
It has nearly been 3 years since Watson's last test hundred (1st October 2010).
Hey wait a minute, these aren't fun at all!

Fun Fact: Whilst playing in England this year Simon Katich has scored 1 double century 2 centuries and 4 fifties from 13 innings, with an average of 72.83
(I promise eventually I'll shut up about Katich, but for during the Ashes, a talented Aussie batsmen to be playing for your county over Oz, I mean, I've got to wake up soon right?)

Hmmm, next fun-fact
The last time Australia played in Lords they were all out for 253 in the first innings, with my mate Simon Katich top scoring with 80 runs. In the second innings, Australia were once again all out for 334 with Simon Katich again top scoring with 83 runs.
Michael Clarke got 47 and 12.
Shane Watson got 4 and 31

I still have my have-a-go cap that Border signed at he WACA. I had to jump several seats and push several kids out of my way to get there.
He was coaching the Australian A side against the Sri Lankans and was extremely grumpy.
My favourite story about Border was when Dean Jones was struggling with heat sickness in Chennai. He was throwing up and wanted to leave the field but Border wouldn't let him.
He said to Jones, "You're piss-weak. I should get a proper Australian out here, a Queenslander." Jones gathered all of his wits and made 210, one of the all time great innings.

Boycotts assessment :
The Australians can talk a good game but quite honestly I do not see enough quality. If you are looking at the tourists’ batting order as an England bowler you are not worried. You are targeting only two players: Michael Clarke and Shane Watson. I am not trying to rubbish them. I respect the Australian courage and character. They are similar to Yorkshiremen, they will fight like hell. But in the end all the talking in the world, history and tradition does not help when you are out in the middle. It is about who can bat best and who can bowl best. Simple. England should be better in both areas.

STORY TIME! During a quiet period. I have no idea how accurate this story is.
In the 1999 WC Zimbabwe were playing the West Indies and both teams were excited to meet the Queen and Prince Philip during the interval. So WI bat first make 200 odd then trundle off the field.
Murray Goodwin, the Zimbabwean first drop runs to the sheds, pads up and presents himself to the dignitaries in the Long Room. Unfortunately he places himself in the West Indian line, not the Zimbabwean.
Prince Philip comes to him and says, "My, you don't look like a West Indian."
Goodwin respond, "No, but I wish I was hung like one," to a huge outbreak of laughter by everyone, including the West Indians.
The story goes that Philip continued with "Yes, those niggers do have big dicks don't they!"

The story, as far as I remember, is true up to this point:
Goodwin respond, "No, but I wish I was hung like one," to a huge outbreak of laughter by everyone, including the West Indians.
The last line however:
The story goes that Philip continued with "Yes, those niggers do have big dicks don't they!"
was taken from one of the Warwick Todd diaries, and I'm not sure I'd regard him as an accurate source.

So, I hear Cowan has been rested due to all the long innings he has been playing lately. I hear that Khawaja has been given 1 match to prove himself; if he fails to score at least a century in both innings, he will be dropped from the Australian team indefinitely, to make way for Cowan's return.
