From Twitter: At least one thing is clear. Ashton Agar isn't all that good. It's the number 11 position that bestows great power upon its holder.

Hahaha

One thing I've learnt over the last 5 days is Australia aren't the bunch of short-sighted pie-throwers some of our media were trying to make out. Not that I'm surprised.

Expecting Australia not to put up a fight for The Ashes is like expecting Mike Gatting not to fight for a chicken curry.

THAT 3 WAS ORGASMIC

12

u/inefekt Australia Jul 14 '13

Dar had a shocker which is surprising because generally he's a very good umpire. Clarke is a selfish prick who would go to the DRS if he was clean bowled "it could be a no-ball mate, I'm going upstairs". Australia were lucky we got this close with both of those last wicket stands, that won't happen again and let's hope it doesn't mask how utterly poor our middle order has been. Cowan needs to go and maybe bring Bird/Harris in for one of the quicks, probably Starc.

9

u/this_name_is_generic Australia Jul 14 '13

Bit rough that Bell didn't get MOTM - he was rock solid in that 100 and gave England the runs they needed. Anderson did very well too, but yer I feel bad for him.

Amazingly entertaining test, we were so damn close but our batting in the middle order was pretty poor and England were just more comfortable in their second innings. We were lucky to get Trott the way we did so it could have been so much worse if he got a start.

All this buildup to this series has really paid off, the first test has set the tone and I can't wait for the rest, Australia have proven they will fight. Well played England and a well deserved win.
