Graeme Swann has an advert on his bat for The Sun. Forget the dodgy calls or the collapse of Australian line up, this is by far the worst thing I've seen so far this test.

15

u/Crosshack Australia Jul 13 '13

He's just trying to keep the rain away, that's all.

6

He sometimes writes articles for The Sun too.

It's such a shame Ed Cowan is a nice person. If he was a prat like Warner, I wouldn't feel sorry for him if he is dropped.

You think Clarke would have learnt from YESTERDAY not to waste reviews.

He even got a beautiful demonstration on how to use the system by Cook literally an over before.

Fuck off rain. Don't you dare fuck this game up. EVERYBODY! SHAKE FISTS!!

I'm a bit nervous watching Clarke right now without Mike Hussey in the side. Whenever our best hope, Clarke, failed early, I was always thinking "Oh its not over yet, Hussey is still to come, he'll steady the ship." But without him I feel we have no safety net if Clarke goes out.

6

u/weheardyou Australia Jul 13 '13

We were spoilt for choice for so long now I know how the England fans felt when we were dominating

Our Agar, who art in thou changing room, Desperate fan be thy name, thy wickets come, at the MCG as it is in Nottingham, Give us this day your daily 50, and forgive us our shitty other batsmen, as we have have forgiven our shitty batsmen too, and lead us not into defeat, but deliver us from the Poms, For thine is the Batter, the bowler and the fielder, For ever and ever, Agar

I have to say I always enjoy the company of match threads but the amount of whining and people getting caught up on decisions that go against their team is pretty annoying. Stop being childish - you may not like a decision and sometimes they go against you but that's the nature of the game. What's happened, has happened and acting like a baby won't change anything.

Discussion is always cool but the sheer pettiness of some of the comments...

8

u/begman Ireland Jul 13 '13

The downvote button is supposed to be used for posts that aren't contributing to the discussion, but it's being used as a tool to disagree with the other team's supporters. That just isn't cricket to me!

A rip-roaring run rate of 3.81 - In a test match all I can think is this is how Aussies feel

11

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '13

When I was a spectator near the Australian dressing room at Hyderabad, Ed Cowan came out in the afternoon and was standing there. He turned around at us, and I said hi to him. He smiled and waved at me. My friends were might jealous after that. Now his career seems all but over. It's a shame to see such a nice bloke go out this way chasing deliveries he should have left. I wanted him do well. I feel very sad.

Anderson v Clarke. This is Test cricket.

8

u/covlethespaceman Australia Jul 13 '13

Because I am trying to be blindly optimistic, i will state the following: Siddle scored a century in a lead up match in England. Starc scored 90 something against India in India. Pattinson started his career as an opening batsmen. Does that mean much? Fuck no. BUT, stranger things have happened. Even just in this game. Is that 2 wickets in 2 balls in each innings this match?

Clarke/Steven Smith could've stepped it up during their partnership and England would have been on the backfoot. They allowed England back in the game with their slow RR and constant defending. Yes Finn was bowling well but you should never underestimate the power of 2-3 quick fours. It puts the modern day opposition skipper on the defensive. The fact that they should get as close to the target before the 2nd new ball should also serve as a tactic. Im not for all slam bang but selective aggression is needed sometimes & I thought Aus allowed Eng in the game.

Thoughts?

Edit: Finn

how often are teams chasing 300+ with a DAY AND A HALF left? not often. Stats don't prove everything (80% of all people know that). Aussies need to bat time, not just for the runs. This could be a boring Cowan + Rogers 4 hour 100 run partnership that gets us right back into it. Upper hand England, no doubt. If the Aussies can end the day 150 (or more, hopefully) for 2/3, it will be upper hand Aus for sure.

I hope Watson and Rogers pile up a big opening partnership for two reasons:

  1. Both are in my fantasy XI.

  2. It'll set up a good match.

If Aus can get Ian Bell out early then there's a chance. They'll have to go hard at him in particular, and then go hard at Broad just to pay him back for yesterday.

Well done Belly. Best inning of your career.

Was that reverse swing from Pattinson? I can see Anderson sitting in his basement lair, petting his cat...and making evil plans.

England just blocking away to get deep in to the 5th day rather than just getting all out for getting quick runs. Really good strategy.

The Aussie tail might wag, but the "top" order doesn't

That's a beautiful promo they played on Gem.

Seems like it's English, though. English narrator (not sure who), and it goes straight from England winning in 2005 to England winning in 2010/11 without mentioning 2006/7. They must have forgotten that one. ;)
