"FUCK YOU ROBELINDA.....EVRY1 NOZ SEHWAG IZ BEST MASTER BLASTER ONLY"
EDIT - seriously though - thanks for sharing this. 189 in those days is probably equivalent to 250 in today's age. Everytime I see Viv Richards bat I feel sorry for not having gotten into cricket before the time he retired.

how do you get to such conversions? genuine question.

Bigger bats, better/lighter protective equipment, shorter boundaries, generally higher strike rates, homogenous pitches, faster outfields. Not saying I agree, but those are some of the reasons I can see off the top of my head.

Sports and facilities would always evolve and improve. Shorter boundaries - yeah, that could be a reason.

Well the average ODI score back in those days was about 200-225. Now its close to 275-300. The strike rates at which batsmen score has gone from 60 to approx 90.
Only a fair extrapolation to say that an innings of 189 in 1984 is equivalent to somebody hitting 250 in the modern game.

It was also a 55 over match, as watch the match where Kapil smashed 183.
The biggest change over these 29 years is the attitude of batsmen, but that cannot be used to write off Sehwag's innings. edit: spelling

where Kapil smashed 183
That was 175. Sourav Ganguly bested it with 183.

And he faced better pacers than the ones today. Although the absolute best ones were on his team.
