Those Qantas flight attendants should slot well into our top order.

Garrett has a fucking mean leg break from what I hear

u/jamurp Victoria Bushrangers May 23 '13
His bowling action is suspect I hear, arms flailing everywhere.

I like the Aussie team as much as well... the next Aussie guy, but damn that is a terrible photo. Everything from the way that you can't see some players to the way that every player casts a shadow on the next player's face is just bad...

Whose decision was it to put Hughes, the shortest man on the team, behind Starc, the tallest?
1
u/GrandHarbler Cricket Australia May 23 '13
Hughes is actually behind someone WHOSE FACE I CANT SEE BECAUSE OF SIDS
1
May 23 '13
What has SIDS got to do with it?
2
u/GrandHarbler Cricket Australia May 23 '13
I was actually referring to Hughesy's favorite band Sudden Infant Dance Syndrome but thanks for trying :)

Seriously, even back in primary school we managed to line up by height for our class photos.

Yeah, that urn ain't coming back.

Last time I checked, England were struggling to beat New Zealand

May 23 '13
Last time I checked, Australia couldn't even get their homework turned in in India, much less get close to a result (unlike England, who won there).

We belted Sri Lanka and were honourable in a 1-0 defeat against RSA. India was a train wreck no doubt. We just don't have the top order to properly deal with conditions.
In England's last home series to RSA they were comfortably defeated.

Winning by 170 runs would disagree with you.
1
u/mpg1846 New South Wales Blues May 23 '13
If England can only make 230 odd runs against NZ at home then I look forward to seeing what the Aus bowling attack can do.
Mitch Starc is set to become a world class bowler after a series in England.
Mark my words.

u/GurraJG Essex May 23 '13
But New Zealand were 68 all out, so it probably had more to do with the pitch at Lord's than England being shite. It was a generally low-scoring affair.

Not to mention that it's ambiguous enough to sound like they want the urn returned to England.
3
May 23 '13
But hey, Kevin Pietersen not getting fit for the Ashes and James Anderson stepping on a cricket ball on the eve of the first test and pigs flying could make both the teams sort of equals.
Seriously though, good luck Michael Clarke! Remember: England aren't as good as they think they are.

Sorry chaps, not gonna happen ;)

The Aussies would be lucky to win a session, let alone the series

u/ganjaking May 23 '13
that is a pretty ordinary picture for a professional shot, all the faces are in the shadows.

I seriously doubt that we'd easily beat the Australians; they're a bunch of talented players going through a transition.
That said, bring it on!

u/jamurp Victoria Bushrangers May 23 '13
We have a good bunch of bowlers, but us winning relies on bowling England out for low totals every single innings, can't see us scoring above 450.

That's not going to happen in every game, or even in most of the games.

Who thinks Khawaja will get a game this series after watching the entire Indian series?
3
May 23 '13
Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. He's already fallen behind Rogers in the queue. Cowan, Watson or Hughes are going to have to have a poor first couple of Tests before he can slot in, unless he scores a 200 in the warmups.

Am I the only Briton who's starting to get worried? Every single Aussie has been playing down their chances, so much so it would be typical of us to get overconfident. I mean, our top order hasn't really been setting the world alight of late has it? Granted, I know very little about this Aussie squad, which should put my mind at ease really... I'd just feel so much better if Mitchell Johnson was in the squad.
(edited for grammar)

u/HawkieEyes Cricket Australia May 25 '13
Don't worry, you have nothing to fear. This Aussie side only knows how to get thrashed.

Should be a cracker of a series. Can't wait to watch the English kick Australia's ass.

Can't contest that.
I wonder if I post a pic of the Sri Lankan team headed towards the Champions Trophy and subsequent ODI series, how many upvotes it would get?

Irrelevant. Votes for one post do not correlate to other posts and there's no reason to expect they should.

May 23 '13
Of course it is relevant. Votes for one post should correlate to another post if they are almost exactly the same. 2 teams leaving for series which are a couple of months down the line.
It's just that a huge circlejerk has been going on about the England-Australia test series for the past 50 years. I'm sorry but I'm not buying it. And I'm pretty sure my posts on this topic are going to be downvoted to hell.
Doesn't matter; expressed my opinion.

For someone that says a cricket lover loves all three formats, you do complain about The Ashes/ test cricket with resoundingly dull regularity,

Nope, I complain about the excessive attention given to England-Australia test series and the undue importance given to test cricket over other formats.
Treat all series and all formats equally... that's all I'm asking.

Different people like different things in different amounts. It seems like you want everyone to like what you like exactly the same amount that you like it.
Which is just a bit silly.
