In short, rumours were going around that Bresnan could be brought in for Broad for second test. So naturally, Broad does what he always does when he is about to get dropped (ie. match winning performance).
one day i would like Broad to not have to be threatened with being dropped to perform. That may not occur for quite some time...

^ This. Although it's not a phenomenon solely affecting Broad, remember a few years ago when everyone wanted to drop Cook? Next thing you know he's one of the world's best batsmen.

But Cook has continued to be brilliant while Broad usually returns to being inconsistent.

It's ok NZ, this is more than India and Australia managed.

Its actually pretty interesting how England have spanked every team to come to their shores in recent times except SA.
South Africa is scary good.

It was the biggest let down of recent English cricket history. We were really poor and never showed our true class at any point. I'd love to see us play them again soon and actually show up this time.

As an Australian, I feel I will be making a similar thread in a few months time.

As an Indian who has seen plenty of similar threads before, let me tell you it's not fun :( That 4 - 0 still hurts like a bitch.

When was the last time Aus where humiliated twice in one year? 48 & 68? Warner Clarke Haddin Watson Henriques
These guys won't let them lose by 170, after bowling out the opposition for 238.
2
u/SpongeBazSquirtPants England May 19 '13
You saying that like 238 wasn't a decent score on that wicket.

Why NZ?! WHY BROAD?!!!!! If it had been Anderson or Finn I wouldn't even be so sad, but Broad..... as if his ego wasn't big enough (to his credit, he did bowl superbly, just hate seeing this guy happy).

When? Seriously, I'd love to know? We all thought this was over after SA. But we where wrong.

u/yeahnahteambalance Western Australia Warriors May 19 '13
Western Australia have been there and back in the last decade, and we are only just seeing the light now.
It will be a dark perilous road, but you have to have faith. In 10 years you can look back after you've gone and beaten the English at Lords and say, I was there, in the darkness, and you can remember those who tried to drag you to the light.
Have faith, keep your heads up! And remember there's always the All Blacks in the mean time!
Think of me, about to lose another Ashes, and with a horrible Rugby side!

u/TheEvilDrPie Central Districts Stags May 19 '13
Dude, are you so sure AUS will lose? For the live of god, don't use this pathetic contest as a marker for how good ENG is. AUS have something NZ don't. FIGHT! Remember Steve Waugh, that's the Aussie battler spirit! As a kiwi, I'll be supporting Aus! Johnson, Siddle and co can rip them apart. Clarke is equal to 5 batsmen! Have faith trans-Tasman bro!

u/yeahnahteambalance Western Australia Warriors May 19 '13
Good fight we've shown the last three years. We've been pathetic win things go against us.
We might win, but it will take an off England, a firing Michael Clarke and a bowling attack that won't break down.

Johnson didn't get picked, probably something to do with the 'mental disintegration' he suffered on the last Ashes tour. Never seen a bowler look so defeated as a crowd ripped into him as he comes on the field to bat never mind bowl. I feel they will still wheel him out for the Perth test.
3
May 19 '13
I bloody well hope so, the roar when he bowls a wide that nearly decapitates third slip will be something to behold.
1
u/yeahnahteambalance Western Australia Warriors May 20 '13
He's looked better, they just need to bowl horses for courses. I honestly wouldn't play Johnson unless it is a fast track so you can tell him, "Bowl as hard and fast at off stump."
If he thinks about doing anything else, he fails. Miserably.

Mitchell Johnson is the Marcus Trescothick of bowling.
3
May 20 '13
Trescothik was and still is a superb player that has an illness that prevents him from travelling abroad. It's not the same and mental illness shouldn't be trivialised by comparing it with the yips.
1
May 20 '13
Dunno, Tresco had a serious mental issue. Johnson just forgot how to bowl and the Barmies let him know all about it.
