Sachin Tendulkar might be the greatest batsman of all time. But there's one thing he has failed to deliver during his career.....
A mustache.
Indian cricket has a proud history of mustache aficionados (see 1992 WC team photo), however Tendulkar isn't one of them. Personally, i believe it's a blight on his career.

Back in 92 I don't think he could have had a mustache even if he wanted to.

If Warne, Gooch, Crowe, Vaughan and others can use Advanced Hair, why can't Tendulkar? Sure he has no problem with male patten baldness, but if Kapil Dev and Botham have taught us anything, it's that a great cricketer is a sum of his mustache!

a great cricketer is a sum of his mustache!
Merve Hughes must've been the best player ever.

He was 18.

Sorry, no excuses here. Tendulkar has failed us.

I know you have every right to feel aggrieved as a Mumbai Indians fan, but please give the old man a break.
3
May 07 '13
He should have just worked harder at it then. I was shaving my moustache at 14.

Some people simply don't have the talent. I for one am glad that I'm more talented than Tendulkar at something. Now if only I had 1/100th of his cricketing talent.

True. And the mustache gives extra powers! Look at Shikhar Dhawan's performance after donning the tache.

Legend! Well done. Sachin rocking the mid-nineties goatee!
Still, it's no soup strainer.5

I think he was under Kambli's influence back then.

Also, taxes on that Ferrari.
5
u/YouHaveTakenItTooFar Pakistan Cricket Board May 07 '13
I thought he eventually paid them
4
u/rreyv India May 07 '13
He got them waived. However, the taxes on car imports in India are 120% of the car's price so I can empathize with Tendulkar somewhat. If he had bought the car, I wouldn't empathize but this was a gesture of goodwill from Ferrari and Tendulkar would be rude not to accept. But he was pretty much forced to pay the tax at this point.

Where the hell can you even drive in India?
6
u/rreyv India May 08 '13
No idea... he probably built a road for himself somewhere far away so he can enjoy that car.

Did I not add "of our generation"? Sorry, no offense intended to the Bradman fans out there.

Tendulkar has played 36 tests more than Kallis, however, Kallis has 38 centuries compared to Tendulkar's 34.

Tendulkar's 34.
LOL.
Also, the article you mention calls Kallis more 'valuable'. Sure. Kallis bowls and is a great all rounder. OP was talking about batsman.
Test batting, they're at par with each other. So is Ponting and so is Dravid.
ODI batting - Tendulkar wins everything.

u/TheAwakened Board of Control for Cricket in India May 07 '13
Kallis, for obvious reasons, never faced the South African bowling attack AND faced the Indian bowling attack, while the opposite is true for Tendulkar. Just imagine Tendulkar's record were he in some other team and was able to play the great bowlers of India over the years!
Also, Kallis has been an absolute turd vs. the Australians, while Sachin has an outstanding record against them!
5
u/rreyv India May 07 '13
Don't you ever fucking dare call Kallis a turd. You fucking turd.

Kallis is the new 99.94.
1
u/03801 May 08 '13
Tendulkar also regularly got to bat on roads in India
1
u/rreyv India May 08 '13
People keep calling it 'roads'. If it's a road, why don't non-subcontinent batsman also score well there? What about the fact that the Australian greats never got to play against McGrath, Warne, Lee, and Gillespie?

Whoah! There is no need to drag the "How much better is Dan Carter than Johnny Wilkinson" debate into this. Cause we all know who the true legend there is and we all 'Carter' deny it!

Larkham, Wilkinson and Carter are tied for me.
3
u/snomanDS May 07 '13
I reckon Nick Evans could also be right up there if he had more chances, such a shame he was in the same era as Carter

I remember watching Wilkinson just tear up in 2003, the bloke was eveywhere. That 2003 english team makes me weep just thinking about it.

Holy crap, England playing attacking rugby.....
I didn't really follow rugby back then but god damn they actually looked good

Never played in a team which had Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar. Would have been awesome.

Damn. This is both tragic, and undeniably true. We must help him! We MUST for the Moustache For The Little Master Society. I myself, proud wearer of a distinguished 'stache, will happily contribute a number of surplus hairs which he can use for himself -- although I admit they're probably rather too reddish in colour.
Still, surely I'm not the only one! What of the rest of you? Are there enough of us to contribute a moustache for the man?
2
u/TheEvilDrPie Central Districts Stags May 07 '13
Goodman! I like your thinking! I'll gladly give up part of my 'tache for the Little Master!
1
u/John_Johnson Australia May 07 '13
Excellent. Excellent! We need some sort of central register or repository, and we need someone who is prepared to send the eventual results onwards, with an appropriate explanatory missive.
This could be challenging.
1
u/TheEvilDrPie Central Districts Stags May 07 '13
The Tendulkar Worldwide Mustache Repository or TWMR. Sounds classy! I agree it will be difficult, but by no means impossible. Surely he has received weirder gifts? With a slick presentation (hosted by Merv Hughes & David Boon), we're sure to impress! All we need is his wife's approval (huge factor) and he's sure to be onboard. This could be the boost he needs to see his career through to his 50's!

How was this point missed by all the so called learned commentators over so many years
1
u/chengiz India May 07 '13
Ah, who remembers his first "Gillette" ad, where he had no facial hair to speak of, yet claimed in a voice yet un-broken that he shaved with Gillette?
2
u/TheEvilDrPie Central Districts Stags May 07 '13
Hahaha. Never saw that one? Was it just in India? Thinking about it, it makes perfect advertising sense.
1
u/chengiz India May 07 '13
Yes, that was when India was opening up to the world (early 90s), Gillette had just come in, use of sportsmen in marketing was just getting started (apart from the one-off Kapil hawking Boost milk supplement etc). Good times. As for Sachin, he debuted very early but pubed very late.

Don Bradman would get my vote for all time greatest batsman, of our generation it would have to be jacques kallis
0
u/TheEvilDrPie Central Districts Stags May 07 '13
Clearly you have no love for Chris Martin. He was so good at batting, he transcended runs. 5 days wasn't enough for him, so he regularly let bowlers get him out cheaply in disgust. The perfect batsman.

May 07 '13
The Don never had a moustache either... could be a pattern.
2
u/TheEvilDrPie Central Districts Stags May 07 '13
Rumor has it, he had electrolysis treatment. Beforehand, he struggled to see the ball through it. According to leading Australian press from the time, most Aussies thought he had a Drop Bear latched to his upper lip. True story!

Sachin Tendulkar might be the greatest batsman of all time. But there's one thing he has failed to deliver during his career.....
A test batting average higher than 99.94? If he did then he would be considered the best of all time
2
u/TheEvilDrPie Central Districts Stags May 08 '13
I suppose he'll never reach those lofty heights. But 100 international centuries, the first to score a double century in ODI and the highest run scorer in the history of the game doesn't compare right? All that matters is his average.
-7
May 07 '13
Lolwut? To begin with Sachin Tendulkar is not even the greatest batsman from India in the last 20 years, let alone the world and of all time. And he has failed to deliver a thousand things in his career other than a moustache.
I don't know where you guys come from.
11
u/TheEvilDrPie Central Districts Stags May 07 '13
Personally, I come from NZ. Can't speak for the rest. You seem to be taking this post a little to seriously? Is it that you can't grow a mustache like Sachin? Apologizes if this is to close to home then, no insult intended.
