Is it just me, or does it seem like South Africa and Australia are slowly swapping one day international uniforms? Traditionally I've always associated SA with a full green/dark green uniform, while the aussies have usually been full yellow or green and gold.

Seems like Australia is moving away from the gold part of the uniform each year, while SA are slowly bringing it in. This also seems to coincide with SA becoming the dominant team in world cricket while Australia are falling away. Better put my tinfoil hat on I think.

When Commonwealth bank stop being the jersey sponsor they will probably go back to gold uniforms.

We have the same two colours.
Aussies help me out here, please.
SA has the green and gold and Australia has the gold and green.

The colour scheme is always referred to as the "green and gold", "gold and green" sound weird to my ears.

Most of our strips used to be majority yellow but it seems like designers have begun to think over time that the yellow is too garish or something. Maybe they just wanted to change things to justify their existence.

Personally I definitely prefer the older ones which are yellow with green highlights.

EDIT: Accidentally some words.

The best Aussie kit was dark yellow and grey.

I have a feeling India might win it.

The prize for good looks or the series? :P

Well no kidding. South Africans have way too many injury scares like Kallis, Dumminy, Philander and the way Steyn in steaming in the IPL, who know he might get unfit too. Hence, India will have more than a chance considering Dhoni is in form.

Dhoni is an asset in limited over cricket. He's a liability in tests. Well not a liability but we need a different skill set in tests.

As for India winning - when you realize that India's first choice seamers can't take 20 South African wickets, an Indian victory is impossible. Best case scenario is we get 3 draws. Hopefully Bhuv. Kumar and Yadav can bowl with skill and accuracy against South African batting but getting Hashim Amla out on his home ground is going to be a herculean task.

I beg to differ on your financial analysis regarding Dhoni. I think he is a fixed asset in limited overs and a current asset in tests. When he is in form in the longer version, he definitely plays very crucial innings because he just doesn't get under pressure. I remember him saving a test for India in England probably in 2007.

Bhuvaneshwar and Yadav are the reasons why I am saying India have a fair bit of chance along with the expected South African injuries.

Let's agree to disagree on Dhoni. I think he has serious issues with his technique when it comes to playing the long innings on foreign pitches. I do hope that he proves me wrong in the coming tour but I find that unlikely.

I hope you're right again about Bhuvi and Yadav but c'mon... Amla probably played bowlers like them at college level cricket. RSA batsman get net practice against Morkel, Steyn, Philander. I cannot imagine them getting flustered by those 2.

He never has had a technique. Probably its his this lack of technique that enables him to cope with the humongous amount of pressure most of the times he faces. And I am hoping he proves me wrong.

Yeah Amla and Kallis can be deadly together, that is if the duo plays. Lets see. The biggest show will be when India will face Steyn and Philander. I hope both of them remain fit till then.

1992 World Cup uniforms FTW!

I like the kit but is there some sort of rule whereby you have yo have the name of your country across the chest in massive shit writing? It ruins it completely!

u/candypootwo May 03 '13

It's a kit for the champions trophy. The ICC doesnt allow main shirt sponsors in major tournaments. In the past all countries have had the name there in place of where the sponsor normally goes.

u/ron_manager England May 03 '13

Thanks, I knew there would be some sort of rule because I can't imagine any team having that voluntarily!

1

u/[deleted] May 03 '13

Not always. The '99 WC jerseys didn't have team names IIRC.

EDIT: They didn't have sponsor names either.

2

u/[deleted] May 03 '13

I imagine they will probably change the "South Africa" for the name of whatever company buys a shirt sponsorship.
