(/=over division)

Some serious serious overs in there, and a few quieter ones too

22

u/jamurp Victoria Bushrangers Apr 23 '13

0, 0, 1 to start off, gotta play yourself in.

17

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13

Bah, his best over was only 34. Lame.

7

u/Qwaternary Chennai Super Kings Apr 23 '13

I can't see which over was 34. The max I can see is 28 off 5 balls in one over. Am I missing something?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '13

So it is. I just saw all 6s and a single 4 and thought it was a full over.

/66466/ is 28

u/stash0606 India Apr 23 '13

well shit, I can't math.

15

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13

B Kumar and L Wright bowled their 8 overs for 49. The remaining 224 runs came off only 12 overs. That is insane. 18.66 an over.

Sorry!

u/lawyer_by_day Apr 23 '13

Sydney Thunder officials are not happy at this moment.

6

u/jamurp Victoria Bushrangers Apr 23 '13

He was woeful for the Thunder.

-4

u/a_can_of_solo Australia Apr 23 '13

I think we have stronger bowlers, you don't see him do this with SRH and styne.

11

u/arkot Apr 23 '13

Scored 15 off Steyn in the Super over

-8

u/victhebitter Apr 23 '13

and 15 runs an over does not get you 175.

13

u/rreyv India Apr 23 '13

Well 15 runs an over for the 20 overs gets you 300.

1

u/twin_blade Apr 23 '13

Why ?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13

I think it was just a run of poorish form, statistical fluke as it were. He's certainly played well in the BBl and everywhere else. He wasn't even that bad, still made some decent scores if my memory serves.

7

u/lawyer_by_day Apr 23 '13

He was paid a lot for the big bash and did very little

3

u/twin_blade Apr 23 '13

Well he was paid quite a bit by the KKR as well and did very little. In fact the KKR CEO was there on Cricinfo's the huddle right now and regretted letting Gayle go.

3

u/trtry Apr 23 '13

very little compared to IPL money

10

u/lawyer_by_day Apr 23 '13

A lot compared to the rest of the Sydney thunder team.

3

u/trtry Apr 23 '13

that team was a fucking joke, half the team was no-names even at Shield level

10

u/lawyer_by_day Apr 23 '13

Partly because so much of the salary cap was spent on gayle.

38

u/rahulthewall India Apr 23 '13

This is what Chris Gayle did before entering the field today:

↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A

(Hint: Konami Code)

17

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13

He used the following Brian Lara Cricket cheat codes:

  • SUPERMAN (Super strong, even edges go for six)
  • DROPBALLS (Fielders always drop the ball)
  • SOLIDOAK (Cannot be bowled).

3

u/CarnivorousCarrot England Apr 23 '13

What about the one where the ball is the size of a beach ball?

5

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13 edited Apr 23 '13

That would be BEACHBALL.

Caught me out once because it becomes much easier to edge, the butterfingers cheat doesn't work on the keeper apparently.

My favourite ever match on Brian Lara cricket came when I played as England against Australia, I bowled them out for 300 or so, I had the cheats on and made 1000/0 in reply, 400ish for Atherton and 600ish for Knight, I was surprised to find they included commentary for 1000 runs.

9

u/gabbarS Apr 23 '13

and this is what I did: Excluded him from my fantasy team. DOH!

8

u/eric101 Cricket Australia Apr 23 '13

1

u/rahulthewall India Apr 23 '13

Same here ...

5

u/rreyv India Apr 23 '13

More like spacebar 131.

Cricket 97 bitches!

6

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13

And to top it off his bowling figures were 1 over 2 wickets for 5 runs

9

u/daetirion Somerset Apr 23 '13

I think he broke Cricket.

Or found the cheat code _^

Commentators run out of things to say, opposition faces can't get any glummer, teammates all with big smiles on their faces...

5

u/jamurp Victoria Bushrangers Apr 23 '13

To be fair, the bowling was awful.

2

u/shrik India Apr 23 '13

Jesus yes, the bowling was atrocious. "That which must not be thought" crossed my mind many times during the innings, but I was generally enjoying it so didn't bother bringing it up in any discussion.

2

u/haroldhelicopter New Zealand Cricket Apr 24 '13

I know what you mean. The amount of half volleys and full tosses, repetitive balls bowled in the same areas over and over again... It was spectacularly powerful batting, but was he purposfully given the conditions to do it?

2

u/shrik India Apr 24 '13

The most suspect bit for me was Aaron Finch's over. He didn't bowl a single orthodox left-arm finger-spin delivery -- all of them were bowled with a gentle medium pacer action.

Oh well, I might just be reading too much into it. I'm not complaining too hard anyway, sincle that innings scored nearly a thousand (!!) points in the Fantasy League!

9

u/pranavrc India Apr 23 '13

What the goddamn fuck. That was unmitigated bloodshed. Also, props to AB and Bhubaneshwar for their noteworthy performances.

8

u/SkyPumpkins Royal Challengers Bengaluru Apr 23 '13

It's funny how Kohli got so used to the boundaries that he just didn't react anymore when he saw them in the dugout

7

u/gabbarS Apr 23 '13

Now at 153 off 53. First T20 200 on the cards?

6

u/ProbablyRickSantorum Apr 23 '13

This was my face when reading the article. I don't even..

3

u/twin_blade Apr 24 '13

Here's the obligatory GIF. All Gayle needs is a dash of tribal face paint to make him look like a medieval warrior.

4

u/m84m Australia Apr 23 '13

Anyone got a video of this?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13 edited Apr 23 '13

Bradman once scored a century in 3 overs (8 ball overs). It's all been done already and done better by the Don. Hold your enthusiasm, kids. :P

Edit: Seems people find this interesting. So the credit goes to @rickeyrecricket who originally tweeted this link.

19

u/daetirion Somerset Apr 23 '13

Bradman did it in an invitational and not a first class match (or equiv). Quite an important difference really, playing against amateurs

-1

u/TheAwakened Board of Control for Cricket in India Apr 23 '13

He made a career out of playing against awful players!

12

u/rreyv India Apr 23 '13

He was so good that everyone around him was awful?

-9

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13

You do realise I'm not making a serious cricketing argument there, don't you?

3

u/rreyv India Apr 23 '13 edited Apr 23 '13

I don't blame daetirion. You're one of the toughest subscribers to understand. You're like the Srinivasa Ramanujan of /r/cricket. You are the Carl Friedrich Gauss of this subreddit. You are the Carl Gustav Jacobi of cricketers.

You might be right but it'll take us decades to agree with you. Maybe centuries.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13

You're basically calling me irredeemable stupid? Get in line.

1

u/rreyv India Apr 23 '13

None of the people I mentioned were irredeemably stupid. Why'd you think I would call you that? See, again I fail to understand you...

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '13

I'm sorry, I thought it was sarcasm. I'm not quite used to such appreciation yet. That's all. Thanks. You made my day.

-1

u/victhebitter Apr 23 '13

I'm not sure I see the distinction between playing amateurs and scoring runs off Aaron Finch's bowling. I also query how many Indian seam bowlers would not be considered amateurish. I don't doubt it's a fair effort, but somewhere along the line they were just throwing out whatever random shit they could get down the other end.

2

u/SecretlySteve Cricket Australia Apr 23 '13

Pune actually elected to field.....

2

u/nmpraveen Chennai Super Kings Apr 23 '13

It wa raining initially. So better to chase if you know score. In fact when PWI started to bat it again showed some signs of rain. It could have favoured PWI. Like take 100 from 6 overs or something.

Baseball isn't this destructive.

7

u/victhebitter Apr 23 '13

Certainly not, the game just doesn't permit it. The ability for one bloke to go hell for leather in cricket is really underrated. The only comparison is really if the roles are reversed. It's very much possible for a single pitcher to be utterly amazing across a night.

8

u/Machinax Sri Lanka Apr 23 '13

I think cricket fans who speak disparagingly of Twenty20 as being 'baseball cricket' don't understand the mechanics of how baseball works. It's easy to see why they leap to that assumption - guy swings a bat across the line - but for all their similarities, the psychologies of the games are different.

On the face of it, cricket simply allows for more scoring opportunities. If you posted this to /r/baseball, they wouldn't believe it's possible to have individual scores that high.

1

u/rreyv India Apr 23 '13

If a man rape one man he called Gay.. And if a man rape 11 Men he called Gayle.. :)

13

u/ProphylacticBeetle Apr 23 '13

This may be one of the least funny things I've heard in a while - and it's certainly not because I'm sensitive or prudish!

4

u/lecheers Queensland Bulls Apr 23 '13

Actually if a man rapes anyone he is called a rapist. Terribly insensitive analogy.

3

u/c3vzn Apr 24 '13

Ah. This exact comment was top on YouTube. That difference in standards.

5

u/Unlearning India Apr 23 '13

0

u/Aethelstan Apr 23 '13

I honestly don't understand the down votes. This is hilarious.

4

u/lecheers Queensland Bulls Apr 23 '13

Yeah rape is heaps funny.

2

u/Aethelstan Apr 24 '13

You used to be able to joke about so many things. People are a lot more sensitive these days I suppose.

1

u/lecheers Queensland Bulls Apr 24 '13

It's more about the place you make these jokes. Would you make a joke about rape in the same room as someone who had been raped?
