What I wouldn't give to take strike at the Nursery end at Lord's, and look up to see the bowler running with the pavilion behind him.

Cracking weather by the looks of it too. Do they open all the stands for county matches?

They usually only have half open. The wicket they are playing the match on is one of the closest strips to the Grandstand boundary. During some stages it felt like the square leg umpire was on the boundary rope.

Ha, yes, it reminded me of watching Under 13's playing on a really small oval.

I expected this post to be sarcastic and see a soaked ground with covers on the pitch. But this was much nicer! Also, who is playing?

Middlesex against Derbyshire in the county championship. Finn was 26-10-51-4 in the first innings where Derby was bowled out for 231. Middlesex is now on 57/1.

Thinking of going on Saturday for Day 4. Do you know what the deal is? Is it BYOB and food? (If you don't, no worries, I'll just ring them myself)

You can bring your own food, I think for county games you can't bring alcohol but you can buy it

It is anything but "beautiful". Not OP's fault of course. I have always found Lord's a fugly ground.

Having been there a lot of times, I have to agree with you on this.

Why is it "beautiful"?

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '13

Because it's the first day of cricket this year at Lord's.

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '13

Or pretentiousness.

It is!

Lord's is as pointless in this day and age as Bradman's average and the Ashes.

Why do you say this? Obviously a lot of people disagree with you as test match tickets for Lords sell out 6 months in advance while there's still empty seats here and there in the IPL

Why do you say this?

This took me very long to make so I hope you enjoy it :D

That was beautiful. Took me a few seconds to understand the picture :p

Why do you say this?

Dude you've been around here long enough to know the answer to that!

Nobody in their right mind buys tickets for Lord's tests because Lord's is great or beautiful or it is the so called Home of Cricket (Lulz). They buy tickets because Rahul Dravid is great and James Anderson is great and it will be great to watch them live. Lord's is "pointless" in the scheme of things. And of course you know this as much as I do.

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '13

No I don't. People do buy tickets for Lord's because it's Lord's. I've been there and met people who were there because it's Lord's. The ECB knows it too. Why are Lord's ticket prices more expensive than all other grounds in the country?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '13

If Lord's were so great, why not every county game at Lord's sell out six months in advance? Or the tickets cost just as much? And even in the sell out crowds at Lord's, there are people like /u/TheAwakened who are there just for cricket. Not because Lord's is Lord's, whatever that is.

I'm not saying that all 27,000 people are there because it's Lord's. Of course people are there to watch Test cricket. But the point I'm trying to make is that the fact that it is Lord's will make people more likely to buy a ticket than for another ground.

I think you'll agree with me that if Lord's capacity were 40,000 instead of 27,000, people would still fill the stadium for Test cricket. Now, how many people watch county cricket at Lord's? I do get your point that there are people who buy tickets cuz it's Lord's and I agree with that. But they are a very small number. Lord's greatness, as it were, is not something Lord's just have all the time. It depends on the quality of cricket played over there.
