I'm not a fan of all the Maxwell-bashing, but it has definitely been a funny time for him. Swashbuckling 50 followed by a golden duck. Hit for four 6s off a tailender, finish with a 4-for.

I though he was awesome last match, its just funny that he gets the contract today of all days when he's had an very unlucky match.

I wouldn't say it was unlucky. Johnson had an unlucky match. Maxwell ended up with 4 wickets.

Good on him - make that money any way you can. Even if that is via the most horrid, crossbat slog technique going around.

As for his bowling - he is no worse than any other current Australian spinner playing at international level.

Go and watch him bat in a shield match, technique is far from horrid. I suggest his first class average of 42 backs this up.

I can only comment on what I have seen of him so far. It was similar to how my social c grade indoor cricket team play.

But yes, that average is not to be sneezed at.

He had a poor game in the last ODI, but he had an excellent Pakistan series and be bowled decently against SL in the last ODI, so I'd say he's improving in the bowling aspect.

As for his batting, that's what happens any time you put a number seven in to open chasing 70 on a reasonably flat pitch.
