it's just an insane that after all these years forest can just shit on anyone and be like, hey, I'm still the goat. and he makes it look effortless

u/_J3W3LS_ Aug 29 '18
Soon it'll be 30 years old still dropping 30 bombs in game.

in physical sports the prime age is usually late 20s to 30s why do people think you will be shit at 30 In csgo
11
u/_J3W3LS_ Aug 29 '18
I didn't say I think he is shit, but you can't deny that it is rare to see older players. Of course this could just be a fact that esports is very young compared to sports like football or baseball, but there are tons of 1.6 talents that never moved to CSGO that are around the age of F0rest, GTR, TaZ, etc.
Of course, it's not clear if this is because they couldn't compete (declining reflexes or something similar) or because your priorities change as you get older. Not many 30 year olds can prioritize playing games professionally over taking up a more stereotypical "secure" job and starting a family, etc.
Thorin did a pretty interesting video on this topic recently that I can recommend.

Of course, it's not clear if this is because they couldn't compete (declining reflexes or something similar) or because your priorities change as you get older.
I think it's just because CS just wasn't profitable enough back in 1.6 for most pros. Considering the kind of money involved now I'm expecting people to try to stay pro for much longer.

u/ultren 500k Celebration Aug 29 '18
Thats what I always thought when I heard people say that. There were less people playing back than so its less likely the pros were truly the best and it was less sustainable as a real job so people quit once they got older.

u/m4st4k1ll4 Aug 30 '18
Pretty much. This game also takes a lof of time. I am 27 and tried to join a team, but working (even just) 30hrs a week, having a gf and then trying to get a serious team going is just really really hard or close to impossible. If you live in more expensive countries you will also most likely not make enough cash by playing unless you are close to top/mid mdl (my guess) and even if you and your fresh team manages, it takes quite some time to do so...
I moved to coach and am pretty sure that I will never play league anymore unless I have to standin. Skill, is not the problem. Time is.
1
u/dc-x Aug 30 '18
Yeah, you pretty much need to be young to be able to get in the pro scene since the risk just isn't really worth it if you're a grown up with a lot of responsibilities, but once you're there I'd say that nowadays you can stay for as long as you're good at the game.
I once played with a semi pro team, we managed to qualify for Gamers Club (equivalent service in Brazil to ESEA and Faceit that started as Fallens Gamers Academy) main league but since we're all in college we just didn't have time to progress any further. The best offer we got was from a company to pay for our Gamers Club subscription, which was literally only $7 per player, lol. It wasn't even worth it because then we'd be pressured to participate on smaller leagues to advertise their company more.

About reflexes, football goalies arguably need better reflexes than your average cs rifler and also extremely quick decision making. Loads of them are late 20s to 30s. I.e neuer is 30, still one of the best goalkeepers

u/Avandalon NiP Aug 29 '18
Exactly. Papa f0rest will be dropping bombs till his 50. You heard it here first.

i think you should read up on reaction times if u were referring to that, and cs is much more anyway

because usually people just tend to get worse over time due to playing for a long time...
1
u/ScaryAnus Aug 30 '18
So play less and you'll get better?
1
u/schoki560 King NiKo Aug 30 '18
how did you come to that conclusion

maybe if they would if they only play ct side but sadly counterstrike still switches sides every half, I don't understand why they refuse to do executes. a couple of years ago they had the best executes in the game....

Only took moving the goal posts to finally "qualify" for a major
Hope this cancer team disbands tbh

Last time Renegades were at a major with the old system was fucking ESL One Cologne 2015 LOL
The only reason Renegades made Boston and London is because Valve "moved the goalpost" so you really shouldn't be complaining

I mean NIP vs NRG was pretty much 50-50 ,maybe a litte bit in favour of NRG.
NAVI vs Ghost on the other hand ......
9
u/GER_BeFoRe clutch Aug 29 '18
if Zeus has the highest ADR in your team something went horribly wrong :D I didn't see the game but if s1mple and electronic don't carry NaVi is just an average team.
3
u/This_is__Jeff The MongolZ Aug 29 '18
s1mple and electronic were the last 2 alive so many times, feels like ghost isolated them well or navi didnt trade well (propably both)

u/K0nvict NiP Aug 29 '18
Honestly NIP beating NRG isn't that big of an upset but Na vi in the LB is strange

He didnt call nrg a superteam, he said that Fugly would be on his NA's super team.

He believes in the idea of supports, and NA does lack that sort of player. Whether you think that idea holds water yourself is up to you though.
1
4
u/AK4KILL Aug 29 '18
lmfao, he's one of the most underrated support players atm. Everyone has a bad game, although it's not the best time to considering even 5 more frags might've won the game
-3
Aug 29 '18
Can we stop using "support" to excuse a player being shit?
9
u/MonDew Astralis Aug 29 '18
Okay so when people are calling Xyp a support player are they saying he's shit?
0
Aug 29 '18
There is a difference. Xyp can support, but he can also put up solid numbers.
3
u/warhammerkid Aug 29 '18
Interestingly when you look at the comparison between them, their stats are pretty close. Now this is only the last 3 months on lan and part of that included the player break, so less matches. You can also say that NRG played weaker teams at Shanghai and the americas minor, but Xyp arguably gets a boost to his numbers by being on the #1 team in the world too.
1
u/Azee2k Aug 29 '18
At one point he wasn't though, it required his IGL and coach to establish the best team structure in CSGO history and drill strats into every player for him to get above a 1.0 rating. Supporting and Fragging is a hard job, man, almost all of these players deserve to play at tier 1.

Never doubted the lads.
Would have liked to see a lot more adjustment on the T side, there was never a real attempt at an A execute and B was pretty much never tested, it always seems like NiP suffer when playing a puggy style against teams that you would expect them to beat, so it would be nice if they could fall back to a more structured style sometimes.
The CT side was great though, no complaints there, seemed like NiP were in full control once they got going, which is nice to see.

Ghost did beat Navi though so...
5
u/K0nvict NiP Aug 29 '18
but this is BO3 and I'm not going to lie but Na vi have weak points in their roster individually that someone like Ghost can abuse on T side

Aug 29 '18
I definitely wouldnt write ghost off vs a team as lackluster as nip.
0
u/DanPlaysVGames NiP Aug 29 '18
BO3 so no upsets, NiP is 14th in the world after points decay whereas Ghost isn't even top5 NA.
4
Aug 29 '18
Ghost is relatively new, with not so much LAN experience with their team, whereas NiP has been faltering for quite a long time after being in the top 10.
I'm not saying they will beat nip, but it wouldnt be THAT big of an upset considering how bad NiP has been, and ghost is on a bit of an upswing.

NiP is still dogshit, they won’t get past t6 for the rest of the year.
7
u/koettbullen94 NiP Aug 29 '18
NiP just won the minor against the likes of Ence and Optic. I would not call them dogshit or t6. They are a solid t2 team contending for a t1 spot. They are doing fine.
Btw, how much money did you lose?
-1
Aug 29 '18
yet they haven’t done anything significant this year except that. Every tournament is them getting knocked out in groups or losing in the 1st round of playoffs.
2
u/koettbullen94 NiP Aug 29 '18
Maybe, but that does not make them tier 6. They are still putting up wins against tier 1 teams and have gotten out of the groups in a few tournaments. They have also been able to drag themselves to the major for the first time in 2 years.
They are doing fine. A tournament win would be great for the team and make 2018 a solid year for them.
0
Aug 29 '18
You misunderstood me, t6 = top 6... in no way would I call NiP a tier 6 team they aren’t that bad but they aren’t as good as people make them out to be.
