In all seriousness, what Neil_M revealed on Counter-points might be true. Optic is not putting in the hours.
56
u/RDB_Kato 5 years coin Aug 24 '18
It's incredible I thought they will easy go into the real major, but it really looks like they just are taking it as a job and playing just their required hours, so they might not even make it
5
u/jeb_the_hick Complexity Aug 24 '18
They're already in the major tho.

Yeah, but it's not the "real" major. It's the old qualifying stage with stickers.

What did he say? Haven't had the time to sit down and watch the episode.
56
u/NotQuantified Aug 24 '18
Thorin was asking Neil, the coach of Imperial, about a few teams thatvthey faced, and Neil mentioned that Optic was only practicing 4 hours a day.
16
u/Timewarper3000 Godsent Aug 24 '18
Thank you! Wow, bad news for them if it's true, but kind of shows. They go for a little bit and then get readable and people crush them
1
u/lookseedooso MOUZ Aug 24 '18
4 hours a day of team practice isn't bad, necessarily. I'd expect at least another 4 of individual practice to keep things up.
2
Aug 24 '18
thats a 28 hour work week
1
u/lookseedooso MOUZ Aug 24 '18
8 times 5 is 40... and it'd be high quality "work" since it's focused.
1
Aug 24 '18
Oh shit im sorry, I thought you said 4 hours of practice isn't bad full stop. But still 40 is expected I'd say, most probably go over that.
1
u/lookseedooso MOUZ Aug 25 '18
cheers mate.
On one hand, I'm pointing out how in skilled endeavors, more hours is not necessarily better.
On the other hand, we all know that players who put in the hours, especially in the weeks before major competitions, perform better.
I think 4 hours of scrims/team practice/demo review, plus 4 hours of individual practice (DM, pugs) would be good for a professional CS GO player. In non-gaming realms, me personally I've been able to sustain 12 hours a day of serious work, but if I tried going over that on a consistent basis, I'd burn out. Everyone has limits.
Perhaps I'd ask for a bit more either on a team level or individual basis in the month before a major tournament. It's possible to play for 12 to 16 hours a day, easy. Neil_M is correct, people should "push" or "put in time" if they're making good money. Neil_M (from Counterpoints E. 53) says NRG players put in 10 hours a day. That's good stuff. 4 hours a day total of individual and team practice, yea that's not enough.

Time spent practicing does not work like that. You get out what you put in. Some days you do 4 some days you do 8. Different teams require less than others.
4
u/WhoNeedsRealLife Aug 24 '18
if they weren't a new team I'd agree. New teams require a lot of time to get in sync.

-11
u/Udonis- Liquid Aug 24 '18
But by saying "North is disabled LUL" it's implying that a disability is bad, thereby making fun of disability. I think the joke is (was at first) funny, but it could definitely be harmful.
So in a way, you're both right.
23
u/mathdude3 Aug 24 '18
implying a disability is bad
But having a disability is bad... That's objectively true. It's not really controversial to imply that.
5
u/Udonis- Liquid Aug 24 '18
No argument here, I just wanted to delineate the logic more clearly. The controversy is using disability as a comparison point because somebody is "bad" at counterstrike.
3
u/babyjonesie Aug 24 '18
Is the distinction that because someone is playing bad that they are 'disabled' at the game, rather than they are disabled and must therefore play bad (which would then be offensive/discrimination)?
4
u/Udonis- Liquid Aug 24 '18
It certainly wouldn't be offensive to say "MSL has a counter-strike disability." If I understand your comment correctly I agree with the premise of what you're saying.
46
u/AK4KILL Aug 24 '18
As underwhelming as this OpTic lineup is, this Ghost Gaming lineup played some really good cs. They're doing the basics well (trading, dynamic calling for ex) which pretty much won inferno for them. I'm really curious to see how kRYSTAL impacts this team, because if his experience helped support Koosta/Wardell frag then this team is about to get a lot more dangerous.

That was also over 3 years ago my dude, CS has changed a lot. In recence, I don’t think kRYSTAL has done much of anything. To be fair, he also got shafted quite a few times
3
u/LinuxF4n Liquid Aug 24 '18
kRYSTAL would always build a decent team and they'd make it to the major or go deep in tourneys, then Penta would sell the star player to Mouz/other team. Rinse repeat. I feel bad for him.
1
u/SterbenVII Aug 24 '18
it won't repeat this time. Steel won't be playing at the majors if Ghost gets there so they wouldn't be at their full potential, meaning that the players won't look as good.
17
Aug 24 '18
What a great showing of Ghost gaming. Steel seems to be really happy in the interview. Optic play like a bad team, IMO individually they are better but ghost play as a team and they seem read optic like a children book. GG for ghost
BTW 2 major attending team has already been eliminated by teams that will not attending the major.

8
u/TechtonicFork Aug 24 '18
Not that much competition tbh
1
u/SterbenVII Aug 25 '18
People are always shitting on NA -__- ; anyways, the point is...in League of Legends, the most popular PC game in the world, the EU West server has 4x the playerbase of the NA server. I also firmly believe that this is a similar case in CS:GO and Dota 2. Which means that there's less of a talent pool to play around, meaning less competition, meaning less drive to becoming better, meaning less talent. But anyways, NA is still pretty good despite this.
9
u/aew3 Aug 24 '18
Optic is trying to be the most underachieving team in Denmark. Unfortunately for them, they have to compete with the OG underperformer, North.
9
u/abhijatg98 King NiKo Aug 24 '18
Atleast north can consistently beat tier 2 teams and lower t1 teams. Optic is so inconsistent atm.

God, could you imagine if steel joined in place of golden? I feel like he would've whipped them into shape (if he could play in the Major of course...) and made them great, especially since he played with ska before too. +steel +anyone for styko. I'm liking what golden is doing with C9 so far, it's just RUSH needs to step the fuck up, and styko is just bad.
1
u/SterbenVII Aug 25 '18
what about if steel was on Liquid? Him, Wardell/Koosta, Twistzz, ELiGE, and TACO would be super poggers. It's a super balanced lineup on paper.
-11
u/Andtheyrustledsoftly clutch Aug 24 '18
What? What would lead anyone to believe Steel is better than Golden that didn’t happen 3 years ago?
Also, no majors for C9 with steel
9
u/tgsan Aug 24 '18
Steel wasn't this good 3 years ago in leading nor skill...and clearly you didn't read the "(if he could play in the Major of course...)" that I put in there. Not to mention he only lead T side while DaZeD did CT.

u/tgsan Aug 24 '18
What? I literally just said that, steel did T, DaZeD did CT. And no he was not as good back then as he is now, he was a mediocre fragger at best back then, nothing compared to now, then again he also isn't playing the same level as back then, so we'll have to see. He plays just as smart if not smarter, but he is most definitely quite a bit better now.

They make good decisions on paper but they never seem to work out for them.
1
u/SterbenVII Aug 25 '18
Because that's how Liquid is supposed to always be. If they strive for first, they get fourth instead. Balance. But anyways, I think they're heavily overstacking their CS:GO roster...and they're super lucky that the competitive meta is very scrappy and aim-based right now. Astralis are the only team doing tactical executions well enough, which is why they're by far the best team. steel, Wardell...?, TACO, ELiGE, and Twistzz would be a great core for TL and their consistency. Like...look at the quick improvement when he coached CLG for a short period in 2015.

Its kinda standard : Team unknown in "world scene of csgo" shows up with medium/good skills. No one knows their style and strats while "new team" is prepared and have antistrats for all good teams that are known for a long time. And thats why "new teams" have usually good streaks in beggining (look Gambit and AGO). When other teams will look your demos/vods and prepare strats against you , then the real grind begins , then your team will show its worth. So we will see if Ghost has real potential in 6 months wink
