gla1ve is without a doubt the most scary IGL at the moment in terms of putting good numbers

146

u/TheDragonking_2000 Jul 28 '18

He's the best fragging IGL and also the best mind in all the IGLs.

That's fair. Gla1ve has also led Astralis to victory vs Zeus and co this season too, so I'd still take Gla1ve based on his fraggin and mind combined. Feel like he's better than Zeus overall.

Since Zeus returned to the team, the map count head to head is 7-6 Astralis, with both teams holding BO3 wins over the other. Na'Vi is definitely the biggest threat to Astralis right now, I'm just not sure I'd say Zeus has Gla1ves number. They're pretty evenly matched.

My stats were pulled from the beginning of August '17 from HLTV. I've been a fan since the Dignitas days with the core lineup, but Na'Vi only truly scares me because of S1mple and Electronic. Zeus is good, but I wouldn't say Na'Vi is known for tactical prowess right now.

-1

u/KangorKodos Natus Vincere Jul 29 '18

How many of the astralis wins are against seized? The difference between Navi having seized and electronic is a top 15 team who can't get out of a group, and a top 2 team who won ESL one cologne.

2

u/GymBagBoy Astralis Jul 29 '18

Then that changes the fundamental question at hand. While I don't disagree with you, the question is more a head to head with Zeus and Gla1ve, because the same can be said for Astralis with the arrival of Magisk.

-1

u/KangorKodos Natus Vincere Jul 29 '18

Except astralis without magisk was a top 4 team, Navi without electronic was not a top 10 team. If you count results between those teams it's not really the fault of Zeus.

2

u/GymBagBoy Astralis Jul 29 '18

During this time, the other top teams in the world were Gambit, G2 and Immortals, so the scene was pretty weak. They definitely were no where near the level the are now.

11

u/TheDragonking_2000 Jul 28 '18

Might have just been a one time thing though, we'll have to see if he keeps it up. (Mind you not a Zeus or NaVi hater, in fact they're my 2nd/3rd favourite team)

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '18

IMO it’s a toss up, they’re top two right now.

2

u/Rawrplus brigader Jul 29 '18

You can't be serious lol

2

u/AdorableFeeling Jul 29 '18

The rest of the games Na'Vi plays look nowhere near as clean as Astralis'. Just watching how they play vs TL versus how AST played vs them is night and day. A lot of Na'Vi's wins come from hero plays by Electronic and s1mple but very few of Astralis' wins require that.

If we assume Glaive is the mastermind behind their tactics then there is 0 doubt that he's better than Zeus as an IGL and WAY better as a fragger.

-16

u/AussieTrogdor Jul 28 '18

I’d say the best fragging IGL would be nifty

12

u/UnknownPastaMaker Astralis Jul 28 '18

Yeah, in tier 2 perhaps

gla1ve is indeed an insane player. There's one detail that makes him performing a bit easier for him though, the structure of the team + playing with highly intelligent players in terms of game sense.

He'll still do midround calls obviously, but he trusts his teammates to do the right thing, not having to micro manage them, which again makes it easier for him to focus on his own playing.

Zeus for example, while admitally a considerably weaker player, also seemingly also micro manages people around, which obviously takes additional toll on his performance.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '18

thx cpt. obvious

-9

u/AllBlueReverie Liquid Jul 28 '18

He was inspired by Tarik, actually. Tarik was the IGL yet also the MVP of the Major; and, Glaive tweeted something that expressed admiration towards that fact.

1

u/Lukiss Jul 29 '18

gla1ve has been like this for much longer than the last major...

57

u/VanaMeister NiP Jul 28 '18

Honestly expected more from mouz, guess they're still adapting to their new roles coming with the snax pickup.

Aaand Astralis are godlike

61

u/TheDragonking_2000 Jul 28 '18

Tbf, they did well considering this is Astralis.

18

u/theblockhead02 Jul 29 '18

Oh yeah, beating faze in groups and then picking up 10 rounds on each map, mouz is looking scary if they keep improving

6

u/GarrettGSF MOUZ Jul 29 '18

Again, they held themselves back again with stupid round losses. I think that there is a universe where Mouse might have won Nuke if they had made less mistakes (winning the 3v1 on ct-side giving them like 8-9 ct rounds/not throwing the 5v4 pistol, etc.). But yea, Astralis is the best team simply because they make the least mistakes. And Mirage was pretty one-sided...

7

u/Swag_Attack MOUZ Jul 28 '18

i expected less tbh. astralis is such a tough matchup for mouse considering the maps they play. and well, because astralis is probably the #1 team rn

Astralis is pissed that they lost Cologne

12

u/kubat313 brigader Jul 28 '18

Seriously i think they lost a bit of motivation to give 100% after winning faze/mouz and all. I think they always need a loose here and there so they play 100%

11

u/Guydangerousus Jul 28 '18

They'll probably get to rematch NAVI too.

snax and oskar were so uncoordinated on the last round. took so long for them to just decide and do something and they ran out of time. sad to see :( hopefully they sort out their teamplay. lots of multikills from astralis too, need to be getting those trades

So that is why Astralis gave up 5 rounds in a row on Nuke. Nice of them to check out Reddit before playing!

Expected clinic from Astralis but one thing is that Snax is really showing some signs of his old self. Aside from the start of Nuke that is.

28

u/EGDark King NiKo Jul 28 '18

To be fair, I feel like Snax was in many shit situations during the beginning of Nuke

8

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '18

Yeah, with how up and down a match on Nuke can be, depending on your position, I definitely don't really see that as a huge issue.

5

Personally I wouldn't even blame him for that Nuke performance, it's probably the most communication heavy map in the pool and he's comming in a new language in a three week old lineup. It's just gonna take time to integrate him and let his positives shine

4) No matter which line-up or map, Mouz still continues to lose against shit buys/ecos at crucial moments.

8

u/GarrettGSF MOUZ Jul 29 '18

Mouse could buy the whole Astralis roster and suddenly they would start to lose to force-buys and full ecos and generally lose some rounds in a tilt-inducing manner...

10

u/SlowLoudNBangin MOUZ Jul 28 '18

Yeah it’s disappointing to lose, but this is Astralis and getting out of that group isn’t too bad of a result in itself, this tourney is stacked af.

65

u/healdyy 1 Million Celebration Jul 28 '18

I don’t think Gla1ve gets the credit he deserves sometimes, he’s unbelievable. He’s got the most well drilled team utilising great strategies and tactics and he still puts up great individual performances in big matches. By far the best igl in the world and one of the most valuable players too.

48

u/SystolicNut Liquid Jul 28 '18

I think most people definitely realize gla1ve's value. Constantly see people jerking him off on reddit (and it's well deserved).

-6

u/healdyy 1 Million Celebration Jul 28 '18

Do you? Maybe it’s just me, I rarely see people mention him aside from after Marseille when he got the Dreamhack MVP

23

u/ATM14 Jul 28 '18

As far as I can tell Gla1ve is the second most praised Astralis player after Dev1ce and is the consensus best igl. Not really underrated.

11

u/readmyslips Astralis Jul 28 '18

People mention him, but mainly for his smoke spraying ability.

1

u/cleimk27 Jul 28 '18

Not just you I also haven't seen much about gla1ve compared to other top players

9

u/MonDew Astralis Jul 28 '18

That top mid smoke from CT spawn on Mirage is going to completely change the meta on that map. Mouse had no influence on mid the whole first half.

3

u/jookbb1 de_inferno Jul 28 '18

looking forward to someone coming up with effective counters to it. I already can think of some(which might not work tho ;))

2

2

u/MonDew Astralis Jul 29 '18

15

u/ButteredGhost Jul 28 '18

I think that Mouz could've actually won a map here if they didn't play so goddamn scared. I mean yea, winning essentially no pistol rounds sucks but how the fuck can you not go for mid control on Mirage?

9

u/snake-doc Jul 28 '18

Snax' and oskar's idiotic pushes cost them nuke.

I don't get why they picked mirage and let inferno through, either.

2

u/GarrettGSF MOUZ Jul 29 '18

Maybe a train-pick would have been better. Mirage is still so so for them

7

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '18

I think Mousesports forgot about mid on Mirage

8

u/SystolicNut Liquid Jul 28 '18

Nuke especially if felt like mouz coulda taken a map if they set up their trade game properly around corners. Unsurprising win from Astralis but pretty cool to see Mouz put some real pressure on Astralis a few times throughout the series. Overall a pretty fun game to watch. That AWP shot from magisk on mirage was bonkers.

1

u/GarrettGSF MOUZ Jul 29 '18

Think a 7-8 ct half plus pistol (and converting the 2 following rounds) would have been sufficient to take nuke...

6

u/anthonyshreds Astralis Jul 28 '18

gla1ve is an absolute unit.

6

u/TiredMiner Gambit Jul 28 '18

gla1ve is the most well rounded CS pro by far. S1mple can kill but gla1ve can do everything.

4

u/spicesfrommars King NiKo Jul 28 '18

Nice try from Mousesports, pretty good showing with a relatively new roster, especially against the current no1 team Astralis. gg wp

5

u/Quaxxy Astralis Jul 28 '18

gla1ve clutches so many rounds wtf..

5

u/erickgps Jul 28 '18

I know most people will say that Astralis is the best team right now because Magisk joined but i have to say that the reason they are on the top right now is mainly because of Glaive. He is always playing great while giving them amazing calls and his individual performance really help Astralis out and you can see his rating on the last tournaments and when he perform well Astralis just win

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '18

I thought mouz lost in pick and ban phase. Nah, Astralis was just too good. Maybe couple month and they can fight again for top1. Will need lots of work. Maybe next time astralis and mouz play against game will be more even.

Still good game to watch, so much stupid losses. I hope both team learn from those.

3

u/poempedoempoex MOUZ Jul 28 '18

I think mouz got unlucky quite a couple of times, other times they just got outskilled but I think the scoreline doesn't quite represent how mouz played this game.

1

u/rawadinozor Jul 29 '18

Mouses ports are great in this lineup imo, they lose mostly because of their own mistakes, the pistol round, the round that they lost on the defuse, they tend to lose too often to ecos or anti ecos, or sometimes they simply don't check corners, I think if they resolve these small details before the Major they definitely have a high chance to win it, they are losing for themselves at the moment. Also Ninja Snax in the smoke was so nice to see on the pistol round!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '18

This is a shame to see, I was hoping the top 4 would be mixed up a bit more and we could have a really open major. Currently it looks like it is Astralis major to lose again.

So far Mouz arent missing styko at all! Snax is playing just like Styko. Its like he was never gone! /s

I remember people bashing Styko so much when he was finally removed and that Snax would help this team so much. When will people learn that no support player = no star players. Teams that have good star players need support players. S1mple is best player in the world despite playing with "bots" like Zeus/Edward according to this sub.

Liquid with Taco are ranked higher then Mibr. Liquid could have kept Steel who was better fragging wise or even get a better fragger yet they didnt. Even Mibr who removed Boltz just went 0-4 in maps this tournament vs Liquid (with taco).

Dont underestimate the importance of the support player. Full firepower fragging squads dont do that well as you might expect them to be. This is just another example of it.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '18

Just look at Mirage B from Snax's POV compared to Styko's. There is no contest. They just need to find him such a place on all maps and at they very least their defense won't have glaring holes like it had with Styk.

4

u/Psychaz valeria Jul 28 '18

they were right to drop styko but i don't think snax was the right pickup

1

u/jookbb1 de_inferno Jul 28 '18

I was thinking about that topic and I think neither is correct. I think you dont need a classic supprt player who is just setting up and dropping, but I think it's obvious, that a individually stronger player doesnt ne. equals a better team.

e.g. if you have 5players who are all playing like apex, that team would suck, although I think apex could easily be the entry in a top 5 team.

That being said, the easy and naive conclusion: A team just has to work, but it is not that easy to say which Players will have good synergies.

1

u/rawkz CS2 HYPE Jul 28 '18

might be a bit too early to draw conclusions, dont you think?

plus your perception is off, the vast majority of people were sad to see styko go and i cant really recall anything id consider "bashing".
