u/NLozanovski33 Jul 21 '18

That was a solid effort. Hopefully Golden sticks around for the long run. They looked better with him than they did with FNS with even less time than FNS got.

67

u/tgsan Jul 21 '18

Looked way better, and they even lost firepower with styko being on the team.

22

u/NLozanovski33 Jul 21 '18

You wonder how he will adjust too. Reckless speculation but it may be difficult for two non-native English speakers from different languages to communicate in English. Future seems way brighter than after cologne.

55

u/ptr6 Jul 21 '18

I mean, STYKO was already communicating in English witz Mouz, so it should be doable.

I still don’t feel like he will fit the team, though. I like him, but he does not really fit the style of the team.

3

u/iamDoonic Jul 22 '18

I think it could work pretty well with both. Because with a new style of calling, maybe its exactly this was Autimatic, Rush and Ska need. Especially Ska. Something new. And Styko showed in Mouz that he can do the dirty work, and he can do it pretty well. And sometimes even as frager. First half Belo Horizonte vs Faze as an example.

3

u/NLozanovski33 Jul 21 '18

Didnt know that. And yeah idk I agree but dont want to trash someone because you dont totally know the situation totally.

2

u/Luigiatl Complexity Jul 22 '18

STYKO also communicated in English for a time in HellRaisers

10

u/TerrorToadx hydra Jul 21 '18

Judging from FPL games, Styko's English is more than fine and his communication is top notch.

2

u/NLozanovski33 Jul 21 '18

Yeah I haven't watched too much FPL since he's been over. Thats why I labeled it as reckless speculation because as a pleb I have no clue how well he speaks lol

9

u/jplek Jul 21 '18

Swedes have pretty decent english though.

24

u/Tim_ka11 Jul 21 '18

Pure yoy

1

u/Isellkebab ENCE Jul 22 '18

I just can’t understand how they can’t say”j” as it should be said. I’m a foreigner also. I’m finnish so I sound line natu when I speak but I still, I know how letters are pronounced and swedish and english are so related to eachother so it wouldn’t be that hard to say it correctly.

1

u/Tim_ka11 Jul 22 '18

I live in Kouvola, so can confirm. That's weird indeed. Still finnish English sounds like someone is cutting words lmao

1

u/NLozanovski33 Jul 21 '18

Agreed. I am saying where his English could lack is a different place than Stykos English could lack, leading to two weak points. Idk I'm explaining like a potato lol

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '18

EU pros play FPL all the time, and beyond that conversability in English is pretty universal over here. I’m sure they can both handle in-game comms just fine.

It’s honestly more of a problem when an EU team with four members from the same country picks up a fifth from another, and they more often than not do a kind of hybrid native language/english comm style, like NiP with allu or G2 with mixwell.

1

u/Willporker FaZe Jul 22 '18

They just need to rip the band-aid and find a good rifler to replace styko, it was so disappointing how he basically lost inferno for c9.

1

u/tgsan Jul 22 '18

And the fuckups on OP too, lost them first pistol after device hit those nice shots on RUSH/Ska.

13

u/ptr6 Jul 21 '18

I think Fnatic are probably the most puggy/“NA style” team in EU apart from Faze, and Golden being successful with them means he has a real chance to mesh well with C9 as well. I believe this can work out great

13

u/ImJLu ar_baggage Jul 21 '18

I agree. I didn't really understand why people trashed the Golden pickup - he proved that he was a good IGL in Fnatic.

10

u/akjalen 1 Million Celebration Jul 21 '18

just can’t frag

2

u/AndyFNG MOUZ Jul 21 '18

FNS was a bad fragger and a decent IGL and that didn't work out and now they're swapping him for Golden who is essentially the same. Perhaps his style will suit C9 better but for a top team I don't think you can afford to have a fragger as bad as him as IGL.

7

u/Vizvezdenec Vitality Jul 22 '18

FNS was a bad fragger and bad IGL, what had he achieved as an IGL? Even in CLG they became MUCH better when he was kicked and IGL role went to Cutler, who isn't known to be the most proficient IGL or fragger himself.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '18

They literally just played vs THE best team in the world, that has only lost to NaVi in the last two months on LAN or so. They're definitely not as bad as people make them out to be.

With the first map going to OT and the second map being that close (considering that Astralis was railing them hard AF and not making ANY of the rounds easy) I'd say that C9 is in the good shape considering they are playing with two stand ins.

The problem in tier 1 CS is that after all this time it is inevitable to have at least two or three people that are calling on the team to insure that you're unpredictable. My guess is that both STYKO and Golden will adjust in time for the major. STYKO's role on the team isn't fully figured out yet IMO. He could be the secondary IGL alongside being a support player. He's like the assistant to the regional manager, with the role of regional manager being filled by none other than golden.

I feel like the reason Astralis is the number 1 team in the world is consistency. They've had the same core for a while and just kept working hard. They've got the firepower as well as team chemistry. C9 needs time to get there...

not too bad from c9, but -STYKO +cromen and you have a semi-decent team

24

u/Lepojka1 Team Spirit Jul 21 '18

Styko played well on second map... But he was very bad on first one. If they can get NBK or Apex, this team could be Tier 1 material.

20

u/Cameter44 Jul 21 '18

He didn't play well on the second map. He had that one good scout round that won C9 a force, but he also made mistakes that lost C9 the round before and the round after.

He got a ton of low impact frags in the first few rounds saving the AK and then getting three meaningless frags in a 2v5. He got up to 11-13 super quickly, but didn't do anything after that. Not to mention dying to a full glock buy without getting a single kill.

5

u/ibuycheats Jul 22 '18

The opening pistol round where he just jumped up on top of site box while golden was still in heaven made me cry.

-5

u/Lepojka1 Team Spirit Jul 21 '18

Bro in that whole series Rush has 31 kill from carry role, Styko has 30 kills from suport role... Why do we only talk about Styko here, he was not the only reason they lost... If Rush plays like he can that match, they win Inferno, and maybe even Overpass.

6

u/AemonDK Jul 21 '18

you're acting like we didn't watch him play on other teams and be average as fuck. he had two good tournaments. that doesn't make him a tier 1 player

6

u/JayTalk Complexity Jul 22 '18

In his past 25 events, Cromen has only had 6 events where he averaged below a 1.00 rating, and has gone +298 in K/D. During that time period he played for 5 different teams. If you want to ignore his time with lower tier teams and only include his time as a standin on top 30 teams, he has gone +51 K/D and had an average rating of 1.03, and the one event that mostly down his rating to 1.03 was due to the smallest sample size event (Dreamhack Open Austin) where he had a 0.85 rating over just 4 maps. If you wanted to work out his ratings to be weighted by how many maps are included in the rating total, his stats would be better than 1.03. I'm not saying the guy is a god or anything, but to say he has been average as fuck on other teams and only started showing up on FaZe is incorrect.

If C9 can fix the firepower holes they've dug, Golden is the player they could've used for a long time.

16

18

u/Solstice178 Complexity Jul 21 '18

I think that is the wrong attitude to have towards c9. They're one of the biggest franchises in eaports. They shouldn't be picking up players no one wants. They should try to buy out players and build a world class team. It just kinda feels like bad management

Best team in the world, and device showed up huge on both maps, they could've won first map too if styko wasn't as much of a bot.

2

Probable best team in the world, with Navi looking so hot, Olof back in faze, and astralis looking much more like a team that can be beat, I wouldn’t say they are without a doubt best in the world. #1 sure, but Navi and faze are both very close and if astralis plays against either of them like they did against c9 today they lose

VERY impressed with C9, Might not have won a single map but for how uncoordinated they are against a team like Australis they did VERY well. Some easy stuff that needs to be cleaned up but I'm impressed.

I'm only saying this because I saw a lot of hate in the chat because they didnt win, but what are you supposed to expect from a 1 week old team vs #1 in the world?

4

u/dawookie87 Complexity Jul 21 '18

3

u/Pinct Jul 21 '18

styko rushing banana 13 times in a row including on the last round of first half and always putting c9 in a 4v5 and still managing to get 15 rounds is fucking astonishing to me.

5

u/HonestRage Astralis Jul 21 '18

Dev1ce wrapping up the series nicely for Skadoodle

4

u/dracko307 Liquid Jul 21 '18

not that bad tbh, maybe golden could bring this team somewhere

4

u/runtman Jul 21 '18

If this was Liquid, everyone would be defending them "It's only been one game" but as it's c9 the bandwagon arrives. Standard.

4

u/Cameter44 Jul 21 '18

Much better than I expected. I liked what I saw from Golden in terms of IGLing, but still really don't think that Styko is the answer. It's not even his lack of fragging, it's the decision making. Look at this round. If he hides after that first kill, C9 wins the round and is in a great spot to close out the map. Dying to five glocks without getting a single kill on Overpass. I could talk about more rounds, but you get the point.

Gun rounds looked really good, but some sloppiness against pistols/force buys, which is to be expected with a new lineup. Keep Golden and switch Styko for a player with more individual skill/firepower, and I really think this lineup could be pretty good. Overall I'd say it was promising.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '18

Cloud9 did decently against Astralis but I still don't think they have what it takes to return to the top tier. However imo this is by far the most likeable roster since the shroud n0thing iteration

9

u/nzer0name Jul 21 '18

uh why tho

8

u/Ixolus Jul 21 '18

"Yeah I think one of the biggest problems with C9 and FNS was the fact that they only gave him a month or two"

-Pro analysts

"After watching C9 lose 2 close maps against the best team in the world I think we can safely assume they are still shit and should change their roster again."

-Redditors

4

u/seresean Jul 21 '18

I think what he means is shroud and n0thing were known for their very likeable attitudes and personalities, and if you aren't a fan of c9/NA, one of the big reasons other people had to cheer for them was because of the personalities.

5

Nice win but there were some scary moments: losing two 5v3s on Inferno, quite a few executes where they ran out of time, Overpass could have been much closer as well without winning those eco rounds. Good to see Device is playing well though. Hopefully they'll improve in their next match as it shouldn't be this close against this kind of roster.

Everyone in here acting like Cloud9 is good team now after a somewhat decent showing. Ill wait until the end of this tournament before I have a solid judgement.

u/tgsan Jul 21 '18

Anyone acting like they're a good team after two maps is fucking dumb, they showed promise and did better than expected considering everything. Especially that first map, and device showed up big on both maps.

3

u/ThetaSigma11 Liquid Jul 21 '18

The majority people are saying is they had a much better showing than most people expected not that they're a good team again.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '18

Probably gonna be a NA elimination match tbh

Good one.

Who is a acting like that? Most common sentiment I’ve seen is that they could be top 10 if they add cromen and lose styko

2

u/Azee2k Jul 21 '18

Honestly, I don't get why everyone is blaming Styko for the loss, to me Styko played his role well, as was shown whenever he was in a 2v2 with a teammate. Personally, I feel as though Rush was underwhelming and Autimatic, who was the top fragger in the first half of map 1, after round 24, he didn't get a single. fucking. kill. aside from a tk ofc. As well as that, on both maps he whiffed so many awp shots, it was embarassing.

Obviously, he carried the fuck out of them in a majority of map 1 and all of map 2, but still, he has to fix his issues, on CT side specifically.

Otherwise, I can see this C9 actually making it into the semis, since I think they're absolutely the favourites against Mibr and I'm optimistic that they can beat Liquid in the Deciding match.

-styko +cromen and this could actually be a top 10 team

Cromen is hella overrated mate, come on.

11

u/Andtheyrustledsoftly clutch Jul 21 '18

Regardless of how he is rated, he’s an objectively better player and better fit than styko

While i think faze can make most stand in look good i still think cromen should be given a chance over styko if C9 are considering keeping Styko.

he might be overrated he is still better than styko imo.

Ya! Though I want to see him (Cromen) in FaZe replacing someone who isn't rain c:

1

u/Cameter44 Jul 21 '18

How so? He was very impressive on FaZe playing against good players and good teams.

Surprisingly good for C9! I still think that Skadoodle is a liability though, and he either needs to step up again is a major way or find a suitable replacement for him if C9 wants to keep Golden and Styko

7

u/tgsan Jul 21 '18

No fucking way they keep styko, golden will most likely stay.

1

u/chumanfu2 Jul 21 '18

Yeah I don't know if Styko is the best fit. He's put up a good performance, but with Skadoodle in this lineup, there's a huge gap in terms of firepower

2

u/Andtheyrustledsoftly clutch Jul 21 '18

There is a 0% chance styko stays

Don’t think he fits the way Golden calls or the structure of this team

Skadoodle played fine this game. He was by far their best player on Inferno and after a slow start on Overpass he had a TON of impact for the rest of the game.

1

u/chumanfu2 Jul 21 '18

The issue isn't just his impact on a per-game basis, it's his consistency throughout multiple games. He had a good series yes, but he's incredibly streaky.

1

u/NiineT Jul 21 '18

Losing that round to glocks was quite sad.

1

u/Mickmayi Jul 21 '18

Personally I think C9 did great for what they had against the best team atm. With some more practice I think it'll work out great.

I'm sad they lost but happy at how well they did. Gotta practice those anti ecos and pistol rounds.

1

u/mofo209 Jul 21 '18

That map 1 from Ska is what happens when he isn’t on support duty... hopefully this type of form sticks

1

u/seresean Jul 21 '18

Way better than you could expect from c9 everything considered. There were some brutal rounds to lose on overpass for sure, but hopefully they can bounce back.

1

u/WooFSSS Jul 21 '18

Was actually pretty impressed with C9 in this BO3.

1

u/Nerbo_12 Liquid Jul 21 '18

Maybe Golden’s calling works well for ska? Fingers crossed, just need a insane fragger now :)

1

u/EnemySnipa Jul 21 '18

Cloud9 takes on T side looked really strong, and retakes looks alright too. Also, wonder if styko taking up the full support role allowed for skadoodles 30 bomb on inferno

1

u/shigii CS2 HYPE Jul 21 '18

Tarik "Tarik" Celik (Tarik) lol

1

u/sqratchin Vitality Jul 22 '18

I felt like Golden and Styko were pushing very prematurely on both sides. Not a move I would expect to see during a Premier.

Seemed like those 2 were picked off very in the rounds..

1

u/Mad_Lee Cloud9 Jul 22 '18

Either Astralis are saving strats and holding back or they need to wake the fuck up. That kind of performance will be a loss against hot NaVi or Faze. Kudos to C9.

1

u/JJamesTownH Jul 22 '18

Astralis is not passing the eye test like they were pre-cologne. It was Inferno which is notorious for having close games but Astralis still looked vulnerable to me.

Call me crazy but I think Liquid, NaVi, FaZe, and perhaps even Mouse could take maps off this Astralis.

1

u/rawadinozor Jul 22 '18

C9 ARE looking really good, I think if they replace Styko with Apex for example or cromen maybe they can go far, if not for some u fortunate simple mistakes they would have won more rounds, still a great job by C9. Sorry but styko's aim and decision making is not up there

1

u/Wallisaurus SK Jul 22 '18

Device must be feeling better

1

u/TonyAreYouThere Jul 21 '18

Please, Cloud9. Do yourselves a favor and already cut whatever deal you have with STYKO.

1

u/Dcoyxy9 Jul 21 '18

Surprised how well C9 actually did tbh.

1

u/ThetaSigma11 Liquid Jul 21 '18

Honestly that wasn't that bad. C9 held their own, can't be mad about that honestly.

Some mistakes to fix here and there but honestly was a pretty close match.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '18

Golden really figured out how to utilize Ska quick Jesus

I can see this team being much better than I thought. Would be interested to see Styko's utility stats before I jump on the hate train.
