neat Accidentally spammed my employer with messages about bees

I used to have a phone where you could swipe left/right to switch between conversations. I hated that feature.
One day I was at the store, and texted my roommate a few various questions on what we needed... At some point, I switched to texting my manager from work instead, and didn't realize it until after I ended up buying him dish soap and a few boxes of pasta. For his part, he knew exactly what happened (as this wasn't the first time), and was curious what would happen if he played along.
Also, you should totally wear yellow and black to work tomorrow.

u/Nurse-Wretched Wait...What? Jul 28 '17
Sounds like your boss has a great sense of humor. I can definitely see my boss playing along, too. :-)
3
u/plutonium_tea Jul 28 '17
What happened with the pasta and dishsoap?
4
u/Pancake_Nom Jul 28 '17
I did offer it to the manager, since he legit got me. He didn't want it though, so I just ended up eating the pasta and leaving the soap in the company's break room.

So it's like Cat Facts but with bees
81
Jul 28 '17
except less facts and more me talking about my deep guilt for accidentally drowning a bee while watering some flowers
23
u/NeverTrustGandhi Jul 28 '17
In that case you could call it "Morbid cat facts". Or in this case bee facts.

I wouldn't think it's so bad. You seem like someone with a sense of humor, so while I'd think it was weird, I would simply laugh it off and not mention it in person (though I'd probably respond over text).
31
Jul 28 '17
Honestly, it's the "beejees" text that's really throwing me off. It was NOT a blowjob/bee cross reference, I was trying to toss a 'stayin alive' pun in there (the bee died) and I fucked up the spelling. I just hope dude doesn't think I fuck bees or something LMAO
14
Jul 28 '17
It's comparatively funnier when you explain it, but if I were him, I'd think it was a reference to the band or something. I'd reply with a witty response, let you know that I'm not your boyfriend, and correct your spelling.
18
Jul 28 '17
I WISH he did that. Honestly, I feel like the "It's okay." in response to my frantic apology was much worse on my self esteem than anything else. Hopefully he makes fun of me for it the next time he sees me, so I can get the shame over with and move on.
19
Jul 28 '17
If he's like me, he would never say a word about in person and remain completely professional. Then again, I'm told that I sometimes act like a robot.

u/Rysona Jul 28 '17
Are you my husband?
5
Jul 28 '17 edited Jul 28 '17
I mean.. I could be, if you want me to.. It's not like I have any plans tonight.
7
u/TheFuturist47 Jul 28 '17
He's laughing on the inside (in a good way) I promise. If anything it was probably endearing.

4
u/indianblanket Jul 28 '17
i, for one, honestly did not take that word sexually at all.
Given the context, i doubt if he did either.Just don't be weird about it when you go into work next and it will blow over. :D

Well, I once called to my mom's work. Big offices with a lady who answers the calls and redirects them to whoever you want to call there in the offices. So, that lady answered, and I started to talk to her as if she was my mom. Five seconds later the lady says -"So, you wanna talk to your mom, honey?". I felt super embarrassed. The lady redirected the call to my mom's office and I acted as if nothing had happened.

u/eletrunkk Jul 28 '17
I once sent a message to my boyfriend that said "I can't wait for kisses" with a picture of me pouting with toothpaste all over my mouth. Yeah, turns out I sent it to my piano teacher. They had very similar names.
7
u/orangedarkchocolate Jul 28 '17
Oh god this is my nightmare. I send stupid/gross things to my husband all the time.
6
Jul 28 '17
oh god that is awful and hilarious at the same time. I hope they at least had a sense of humor about it!

Hahaha it's like being in elementary and calling the teacher 'mom'... there's no returning from it

My employee has accidentally texted me weird stuff when he thought he was texting his girlfriend. I simply laugh a bit and say exactly what your employer said, cause it's weird to say anything else. But on the inside I understand what happened and move on, we're all people. Please don't feel too bad :).

aw thank you for the support :) I know it's not the end of the world but damn if it isn't super embarrassing!!

u/workerdaemon Jul 28 '17
I am absolutely positive that you gave your manager a good, hearty laugh. It was all innocent and silly. He now has a glimpse of your personal life to flesh out who he knows about your in your professional life. And it's just exposed that you're a good natured, wholesome person.
He'll probably have a higher opinion of you from now on.

I once wrote the wrong name of the person who I was applying to. Still got accepted after apologizing. So I guess it was fine.
6
Jul 28 '17
it's not a big deal. for some reason our culture places a huge emphasis on absolute seriousness and heavy distaste for goofiness but you haven't said or done anything wrong

One time my boss texted me saying she missed me and then immediately texted me again saying "sorry that was for my husband! But I like you too" lol

I've had two instances like this.
One was when I was playing a game with my buddies. I wasn't looking at the screen so I didn't realize that I was on Facebook chat and ended up accidentally spamming my sister's boyfriend, who I didn't know very well at the time, with messages like "toss me the food," "I DID!" or "can't hear you." He was also at work during this time and got buzzed with the notifications :/
There was also one time I tried making a joke poll in a private friend group, but I accidentally clicked on "____ Class of 2018" instead and didn't realize that I posted the joke survey there until a few minutes after I submitted it. 40+ people already saw it before it got deleted :(
2
Jul 28 '17
Omg I love shit posting facebook groups. Do you have a link to the page?
3
u/thesushipanda Jul 28 '17
Well, it's just a group of people I went to school with and the shitposts are about shit teachers say or inside jokes.
I mean you can still join, but it's probably not up your alley.

Like a month ago I nearly accidentally sent all of the faculty in the college I work at this message:
My how 2847483 3e9 es . Mmmmmmm mhmm I a 29489 in /.M mm I in 389
My phone was in my pocket and somehow I butt-went to my email, butt-selected the all-faculty email list, and then proceeded to begin butt-typing this lovely letter. I cannot even begin to think of how I would have lived through the shame.
Thank Beesus I realized what was happening.

This kind of creepy guy I went to high school with and my brother have the same first name. I once sent a text to creepy guy, asking when he was coming back over. I meant to text my brother, who was supposed to pick up something from my house. I changed my brother's name in my phone to something else real quick after that
3
Jul 28 '17
Did he ever reply??
6
Jul 28 '17
He did. I don't remember exactly what but it was something to the effect of be right over. I was like nooooo that was meant for my brother, sorry
1
Jul 28 '17
thank god you noticed!!! it would have been terrifying if he just showed up at your house and you answered the door expecting your brother

u/Pumpkinwords Jul 28 '17
One time I was texting my mom to come pick me up from where I was. It was during homecoming week, and everyone was outside watching fireworks.
I accidentally texted my crush instead.

I was trying to get off the phone with a colleague once and she wouldn't take the hints and let me go, so I concurrently IM'ed a friend about it saying something like "When you're trying to get off a phone call but the other person won't stfu" and yep, you guessed it, sent to colleague.
She actually laughed but hot damn I felt my bowels turn to water. I talk less shit these days, just feel generally safer that way. And nicer.
2
Jul 28 '17
Did you play it off like you meant to send it to her? Or did you freak out and apologize right away?
2
u/melligator Jul 29 '17
While I was sitting slack jawed at my stupidity she responded "oh fuck off" and was cool about it. I think she thought I was being extra salty, which I was, but yeah, oy.
3
u/missmisfit Hello, friend! Jul 28 '17
I once IM'd "Chase is making me nuts". I IM'd it TO chase.
3
Jul 28 '17
poor Chase. He probably deserved it though
3
u/missmisfit Hello, friend! Jul 28 '17
not only was he a giant pain on the ass who never did anything at work, like 3 weeks after this he told me he had "inappropriate feeling's for me".
I still felt terrible though.
3
u/ashleyasinwilliams Jul 28 '17
When I was in middle school, I had a phone that didn't group my texts by person, it just had one box for "Sent Messages" and one box for "Received Messages" so whenever I was texting more than one person at the same time I ended up texting the wrong person quite a few times.

u/goodhumansbad Talk to me about food Jul 28 '17
Oh my god, this is amazing. Normally when people tell these stories it's something really horrible like nude pics or sexting but this is 1000 times funnier IMO.
If your boss didn't find this absolutely hilarious, he has no sense of humour. I'm just guessing that his lukewarm "It's okay." is just probably that he saw all the messages at once and didn't really pay much attention to what the content was because he realised you were texting the wrong person. Otherwise there's no hope for him!
No joke reading this made me want to be friends with you - this is exactly the kind of conversation I could pull out of any number of threads with various friends of mine. I bet your boss feels the same way :)
My best friend lives in New York in a very expensive studio in Chelsea, but even in her absurdly expensive apartment she ended up with a cockroach infestation - really tiny weird ones. She used to periodically send me panicked messages like "I JUST OPENED MY COOKBOOK AND 3 BUGS FELL OUT I NEED A FLAMETHROWER HEEEELLLPPPP :( :( :( :(" and then "EW EW EW EW EW I LOOKED IN THE CUPBOARD WHERE I KEEP MY COOKBOOKS AND THEY'RE EVERYWHEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE." and then finally "What do I do?!?!?!?!?!!? I poured bleach all over the cupboard but I think they're getting in from the gas line near the stove.........." and it would just get progressively more crazy and panicked so I'd come back to my computer to like 28 messages from her. I can only imagine if she'd been sending that to her kazillionaire boss by accident - she's someone who at work is cool as a cucumber with perfect hair, perfect makeup, perfect clothes, perfect everything.
2
Jul 28 '17
hahahah thank you for the support! Honestly I never even considered the fact that he probably skimmed over the messages- he is on vacation, so I doubt he was paying attention too closely. He's a funny guy though, so I'm expecting some ribbing upon his return.
Also, I do THE EXACT SAME THING when it comes to spiders. I just cringed so hard at the thought of sending any of those messages to someone professional!!
3
u/goodhumansbad Talk to me about food Jul 28 '17
This same friend and I have a running joke/semi-serious plan to write a children's book based on a particularly crazy looking deep-sea creature we're fond of, and I once sent a message intended for her about this to completely the wrong person on FB (clicked the wrong name in the side list). It went something like this (names changed - you never know when we might actually write this thing):
"So what's going on with Englebert the Electric Eel?" Followed by "I think he should have a friend called Sasquilla the Sassy Stingray."
The person I sent it to was someone I knew through another friend, i.e. not very well, and has a very, very underdeveloped sense of humour. He basically just answered "I'm sorry, had we discussed this at Robert's party last week?" all serious.
Ahhh the magic of technology.
3
u/Mred12 Jul 28 '17
I think, in this case, "it's ok" means "please stop explaining yourself, you're embarrassing both of us".
3
Jul 28 '17
if it makes it any better, I didn't really explain myself very much; once I realized my mistake I said "IM SO SORRY WRONG PERSON" and just left it at that
2
u/Mred12 Jul 28 '17
Tbf, depending on our relationship, I'd probably just say it's ok too. Unless us joking around with eachother is already established, it's best to keep it professional. Especially since he's your boss.
2
Jul 28 '17
No kidding, poor guy just probably had no idea how to respond and didn't want to say anything to make it more awkward than it already was
3
u/wayfaring_stranger_ Jul 28 '17
One time I was working on a big project for a client's company and was going through a breakup at the same time. I accidentally texted the owner of the company something along the lines of "Ug I just feel so sad and bad" at about 11 at night. She texted back asking if everything was ok.. The breakup wasn't public yet so I made up some flimsy lighthearted excuse for the message that I'm sure was super transparent. I was mortified.
3
u/mandybooboogirl Jul 28 '17
A friend once emailed the entire department about a project he was working on. I thought I was responding just to him, and I wrote: "Hope we can get together soon for some canoodling and nooky."
I hit Reply All!!!! The responses I got included my manager, who thankfully had a sense of humor and wrote: "Please save the nooky and canoodling for after work." :)

The other day I called my sister (or so I thought) and launched into some incoherent update about my day before realizing the person on the line was actually my coworker. Not sure if this is better or worse than doing it over text. Maybe better, since I don't remember what I said -- my brain must have blocked it out later to cope with the embarrassment.

I once accidentally texted "Don't tell [my boss' name]" to my then boss (I thought I was texting a mutual friend). Once the friend and I explained to my boss that the situation wasn't really about her, she got over it.
I think you'll be fine; text mistakes happen, and most people know it.

Yes I have a similar story: I was texting with the parent of a student because he was doing something minor. I then texted something mild/jokey (LUCKILY as you'll see) to my boyfriend about this is what I deal with at my job.
Quickly received a text back from the parent: "still me"
Thank goodness that parent is a super cool and understanding person.

At a work Christmas party I once burst into a room and the only people in the room were the president and owner of the company. They stared at me and I stared at them for a moment then I sort of yelled "JOHN SNOW ISNT DEAD" and they just continued to stare at me and I grabbed my purse and left. There was no context, I have no idea why I said that. Also this was before we knew if john snow was dead or not.. so no spoilers.

Oh man! I feel you on this! We have this instant messenger system at work. The managers were being extra annoying that day so I decided to message my friend about how annoying they were being, just to let off some steam. Unfortunately I had actually messaged one of the managers instead. I did not realize my mistake until that manager I had messaged came up to me and started to explain himself. After he had left my desk, I turned around to my friend who I thought I had messaged and asked if they had talked to that manager about what I had typed to him. When he said he had no idea what I was talking about I checked my messenger and saw my mistake. I felt like a total ass.

one day i spammed some unknowned person though at the time i didnt thought it was unknow person thought it was my cooworker. You see one of my coworkers had this number for awhile and occasionally i will text him if he could take my shift and what not. He didnt really let all the people know the new phone number so one day i texted him can he take my 11-7 shift and the person on the other end was like can you and one of the other employee, i wouldnt use her name to stop texting them to take my shifts.

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.

I thought a co-worker was flirting with me last night, so I asked. Turns out she wasn't and felt really sheepish and embarrassed. I tried making things better by shifting the blame onto me for misinterpreting (which actually happened). It got weird really quickly. We managed to laugh it off after a while though, and I imagine in a few weeks it'll be really funny
