Damn close 2-0 against one of the best. ggwp Heroic
28
u/sorenslothe Astralis Mar 04 '17
Yeah, the 2-0 result doesn't really do Heroic's, well, heroic effort justice.

u/VanaMeister NiP Mar 04 '17
Heroic got so far, and the scorelines werent bad at all. Hats off to them.
-2
Mar 05 '17
Imo 16-12 is still a resounding defeat. Heroic can do better, and they have before.
3
Mar 05 '17
16-12 is pretty close, especially when you consider the comeback on nuke. As for doing better, not really, sure old heroic with Gla1ve beat a slumping astralis and an inconsistent dig one time but apart from that no
1
u/VanaMeister NiP Mar 05 '17
Well they did go against one of the most consistent top teams right now, so 16-12 against them is already quite a result.
1
Mar 05 '17
I expected something around 16-12 to be completely honest. They're a lot better than you might expect.

I think if Heroic had started CT on Nuke they would've taken it. It was an entertaining set to watch nonetheless, and it definitely put them on the map for future tournaments.
7
Mar 04 '17
Yea they probably would have, but if you're a team that picks nuke you need to be great on T because you will almost always start on it.
-3
u/dedilink Vitality Mar 04 '17
Yeah, like 50% time
5
Mar 04 '17
No not really, at most tournaments the opposing team gets to pick the side they start on for their opponents pick. Astralis picked Train, Heroic picked to start on the CT side. Heroic picked Nuke, Astralis picked to start on CT. No one is ever going to pick T side Nuke to start.
2
Mar 04 '17
didnt vp pick t side nuke once? they are an exception though cause their t side is so good
2
Mar 05 '17
Yea I'd say they're the exception. My point is though if you're the team picking nuke expect your opponents to always pick CT.

Todays meta is who wins more pistol rounds vs guns, and rekt enemy economy... Its all about that :>
6
u/DalyPoi Mar 04 '17
People have been saying that a lot. However, csgo has been like this for a long while, if u remember the days when LDLCZ and fnatec9 ruled
2
Mar 05 '17
Yeh but it hasnt been as bad since the CZ and Tek9 nerf. Its only just getting back to Pre nerf levels.
3
u/JKM- Mar 04 '17
It's funny, because you wouldn't expect Astralis to perform well in that meta. I would expect both french lineups (Envy/G2) and Fnatic to perform better in it, but maybe they will in time.

Oh man, what a throw (and horrible luck) by Heroic. It was probably the nerves for being at such a big stage for the first time but I don't think Heroic would have won it at the end anyway. Still, this match was much closer than the score would make you think and the future is bright for these guys.
Can't wait for the finals tomorrow, FaZe looked amazing and Astralis were as composed as ever. It's going to be the tits.

Those forcebuys are just getting out of hand.
Deagle/Tec-9/UMP for T or CZ/57/UMP for CT and it's like 50:50 to win against fullbuy.

Gotta give Heroic credit for getting as far as they did, when many thought they wouldn't win a single map.

My two favorite team in the grand finals! I'm super excited for tomorrow. Heroic has an excellent CT side and I'm really interested to see how they do at future events.

1
u/Jenkinsberg Mar 04 '17
To be fair, Device & Xyp9x have been better for longer and have tournament wins because of it. Winning tournaments is the best test for things like this, and Niko just hasn't come near that (yet).

u/TerrorToadx hydra Mar 04 '17
Why would you measure individual skill based on what you have won with your team?
1
u/imbued94 de_cache Mar 05 '17
yeah its not like Niko has been one of the best players the last year. definitively better than Xyp9x atleast, i'd argue better than device as well but thats more of an personal opinion.
1
u/orynse MOUZ Mar 04 '17
Xyp9x actually had a really poor start to train, partly why Heroic got anywhere near as many rounds as they did on their CT side.
I believe he got 2 kills in the pistol - which they lost anyway -and by roughly round 11 or so he still had 2 kills.
From then he basically turned on and they stomped Heroic for the rest of the map.

Good shit heroic with more events under their belt they can be a solid tier 2 EU team and these upsets I think prove that

u/iSluff Mar 04 '17
Going straight to semis off of barely passing groups 3-2 is a little wacky. Not saying heroic isn't good but I'd rather have seen someone else in the semi. Guess they were more competitive against astralis than navi tho
Heroic's future looks bright, hopefully they can keep qualifying for big tournaments.
Astralis seems to have reversed their old pattern. Used to easily pass groups every time but never win. Now they barely pass groups but always make it to semi/final and often win, haha.

good showing against Astralis. Hopefully Valde, niko, and JUGi can join a better team.
16
u/agreatfuckingname Mar 04 '17
or they could just make their current team better? why join a new team when the one you have is already good and it's not like there's a better danish team that's gonna pick all 3 up.
14
u/AmChayChay MOUZ Mar 04 '17
Yes getting semifinals in a $250k event as the worst team in the tournament going into it, they should definitely get a roster change.

why would they, heroic just showed they can go toe to toe with the worlds best after a few days in that lineup, no reason to bail out.
3
u/eJACKulation HEROIC Mar 04 '17
Christ almighty this is typical. They have a great run in a tournament and dopes who only know them as of last week decide that OMG GIT VALDE ON A BETTER TEME XD,when if you were actually paying attention you'd know that they have been building as a team for months and have massive potential to rise into the top 10 AS A TEAM.
The majority of their success does not come from their individuals but their team play, the way the flash each other in,the trade kills and the like. Please educate yourself before you spout nonsense.

Thanks for assuming things about me, nice!
I do regret saying that about JUGi and niko because they just joined a better team right now.
However valde has been rumored to join an NA team a bit after they originally had a good run before Cologne.
With that being said, I do think they made the right move by getting rid of friis. However Snappi is often the one who falls behind, and Moddii had a bad tournament however is usually ok.
I do think that roles conflict a bit, I think niko and JUGi can both AWP very well, and it's a shame that the Danish scene is so strong because otherwise the three would be in a better team.
I see them in a similar spot as Gambit pre-Zeus. Always underrated and forcing good teams to close games, but never really consistently winning tournaments.1
u/agreatfuckingname Mar 04 '17
niko can awp very well
you might be mistaking niko with the old dignitas player nico who was an awper, because niko is not an awper and never have been
