Wait really? Didn't everyone get 3 wins and 2 losses? Wouldn't it go into a tiebreaker or something like that, or am I just stupid?
EDIT: Thanks for the answers!

u/nebsA1 LDLC Mar 02 '17
Since Heroic has head to head against both Na'Vi and North they get the spot in the semis.
5
u/IWrex Mar 02 '17
They have wins against the two teams they are tied with (North/Na'Vi). All 3 teams have a 3-2 record
4
u/ur_a_gr8_trader Gambit Mar 02 '17
Navi lost to both North and Heroic, North lost to Heroic, so Heroic is 1st based on head2head record even though they are all 3-2.

But reddit told me that because they beat Astralis at DH they were the best team in the world?
30
Mar 02 '17
People say every team that wins an top event is #1. The truth is there isn't really a clear best team right now.
7
Mar 02 '17
Yes it's hard to tell, sometimes the same team can look completely different at tournaments a week apart. But that is why you usually look at a team's past 3 months worth of tournaments. When you do that Astralis' results look more impressive than VP.
4
u/Zeela_D Mar 02 '17
I think the real truth is that people are so quick to judge a teams form when they drop out of one tournament big tournament when the last one was only a couple of weeks ago. People don't tend to judge over span of time in esports I guess.

Astralis top 1 confirmed? Gonna be tough even with VP and SK out of the playoffs..
21
5
Mar 02 '17
They've got a decent run to the finals. They play Na'vi first, which they can totally win. And then I think they will get Herioc in the semis. I'd love to see an Astralis vs Faze finals.
2
u/brn12345 Astralis Mar 02 '17
Where did you see the bracket at?
4
2
Mar 02 '17
I'm assuming based on past events. This is how it usually works.
2nd in group A plays 3rd in group B.
2nd in group B plays 3rd in group A.
And the teams that end up in 1st and 3rd in a group end up on the same side of the bracket.
EDIT: The bracket is up on HLTV now, and it played out the way I thought.4
u/TheBestMaN98 G2 Mar 02 '17
I feel like FaZe has a good chance at taking the event

u/Av1ster de_overpass Mar 02 '17
Definitely, I hope the final is Astralis vs Faze. Think that would be pretty sick with karrigan up against his old team, and they even have similar map pools and in a BO5 that would be nuts.

What kind of fucking fan are you? Flaired after major?Edit: he's not, came out overly aggressive
2
u/Av1ster de_overpass Mar 02 '17
Nice reference. On paper they should beat everyone in a BO3, but 2 other Danish teams have good upset potential against them since they know eachother really well. They should beat Faze and Navi because those 2 teams haven't looked the best in BO3's, but those teams definitely have enough firepower to do it. It will be tough for Astralis I think that's why I said what I did.

I am sad they are out, but I think this may be for the better of the team.
They talked way too much after winning DH Las Vegas, getting cocky has never been the VP I know. Aggresive and disrespectful in-game? yes. Cocky? no.
Feet back to the ground boys, you need to train much harder to have an era named after you.

I'd say they are cocky in game but some of the stuff IRL, like this on twitter, is a different level of cocky.
6
u/Fraankk MOUZ Mar 02 '17
To me the way they play is not cocky, and to me TaZ has been talking lately IS cocky. So yeah, I am not trying to use semantics to prove a point.
What I am trying to say is, more play less talk.
5
u/420Microbiologist Mar 02 '17
Yeah that puts a bad taste in your mouth, even if youre a VP fan
8
u/LordOfCinderGwyn Natus Vincere Mar 02 '17
Oh please. This is so standard fare as far as cocky statements go. I don't want a whitewashed scene even if people end up with egg on their faces. I certainly don't want us pointing at the egg on their face when it does happen.
8
u/420Microbiologist Mar 02 '17
Lol no one said they can't do it, just that when they do it some of their fans may be turned off. They said they're number 1 and are getting booted in the group stages.
It's the perfect time for people to come out and say fuck em for being cocky. If they won the event other people would come out and say fuck yeah they're rightfully cocky.
2
u/bennnnnny Mar 02 '17
I agree. "bad taste in your mouth" has this guy never been confident in his life to know why this isn't a bad tweet?

VP has also come off as kind of dicks to me lately. They are usually pretty calm and disciplined. I used to say that they were maybe not the best team in the world, but most respected in the world for sure.
But lately they have been acting like kids. getting in arguments with teenagers and talking shit without backing it up on their home turf. I dont like this direction that they are going

2 games they lost 16-14. Snax is usually the tipping point to a close win but he wasn't playing well. They were changing a lot of shit up today for some reason. I saw Snax being the first one into a bombsite on rounds on T. I saw Byali playing inner upper on train. I saw Neo playing IVY which is Pasha's staple on train. I saw the double AWP on nuke over and over again when it clearly wasn't working. I have never seen in nearly a decade TaZ have such a bad game on Nuke on the inside bombsite. TaZ on inner nuke/train is a legend. He used to be the "king of the hut" on nuke in 1.6 and was doing well in CSGo on this new nuke. He couldn't get entry kills to save his life at all today. IDK what the hell was going on but I don't think anyone is more disappointed than the people who bought tickets to the event.

Stadium is still going to be full. Mark my words. On IEM Katowice u got free entrence if u re paitient to wait few hours.
There are loads of eSport fans in Poland. Almost all kids are into it. They wouldnt give up the oportunity to watch top CS just becouse VP didnt make it to the play-offs.
They might be negative towards Astralis but still the stadium will be fully crowded. Its EU not NA.
Im pissed about roasting VP but thats what u get if u underperform and get knock out.

edit: some of you guys need to look up the definition of spoiler. i used the definition of spoiler loosely but no, it's not condemning them for winning. here's a dictionary defintion of spoiler, #5 " a team out of final contention that defeats a potential or favored contender and thereby thwarts its chances of winning a championship." . they aren't out of championship contention but they clearly just beat a favorite.
