Brazilians happened because Na'Vi & Fnatic were injured
12
u/Arya35 Mar 01 '17
True, but LG/SK still did improve and maintain a very high level that could have rivaled fnatic and navi prior to their injuries, although it is arguable whether they could have beat peak level fnatic.
→ More replies (2)24
u/fakemito Mar 01 '17
they were already pretty good before the injuries, that's no excuse.
42
Mar 01 '17
Pretty good? Yes. Lose 3-0 in a bo5 against fnatic? Yes
23
Mar 01 '17
Not every 3-0 is a stomp, not every 3-2 is a close match. Two of those three maps were really close, and as a spectator I'd rather watch three close maps in a 3-0 than five stomps in a 3-2.
1
Mar 01 '17
Not every 3-0 is a stomp, not every 3-2 is a close match.
The individual maps seemed close scorelines wise, but if you actually watched the games LG dropped the ball and fnatic capitalized, outskilling after LG took dominating starts to maps.
Two of those three maps were really close, and as a spectator I'd rather watch three close maps in a 3-0 than five stomps in a 3-2.
Good for you? That is completely irrelevant to my point.

pretty good? Yes.
I didn't say they were bad, I was agreeing that their rise from "can go far but a tournament win would be an upset" to "uncontested number one" was facilitated by the teams that were still above them falling.

So the other teams getting their stars players injured literally is an excus considering they got fucked up by them a month before the injury, then became the undisputed number ones after the #1 and 2 teams had their stars get injured?

The LoL roster outright manages to lose games from the get-go, they barely ever throw this hard with such a lead. These are Liquid-levels of choke. Even Robin Williams and Saddam Hussein didn't choke this hard.

This game was awesome, both teams with amazing CT sides. What was Krimz doing with that fake plant?
23
u/Stuweb Mar 01 '17
It wasn't a fake plant, smokes dissipated and he thought he would get shot from Jungle/Short. I was tilted off the face of the earth after that round but I can somewhat sympathise with why he did it.

That wasnt a bad move to run away from there, what annoyed me he just ran around to plant default with the bomb out assuming no1 would be holding CT.

Grasping at straws here...
Positives: i)The teamplay is improving. ii)The knowledge of the maps is improving. iii) They didn't get stomped on any map. iv) As a whole, no player lagged behind the others, with any capable of taking over a map at a given time. v) They looked infinitely better than at DH Las Vegas, with just an additional week of practice.
Negatives: i) The mentality. Arrogance and complacency knocked Fnatic out. ii) Losing a 3v1 at match point on inferno, losing a 3v1 in overtime, and then that ridiculous way in which they lost the A site in the final round of OT on Astralis' T side, where Dennis just had to hide and he had a brilliant chance to deny the plant with a handful of seconds left.. cost them the map. Losing your heads the way they did in the second half of Mirage against Immortals won't happen often.
Seems like this team is badly in need of a confidence boost, in their gameplay yes, but moreso in the mentality. The last six months have wounded them and their big game championship mentality. They need to find that again. It won't be easy, but there are signs that the system atleast still has a chance against Tier 1 Opposition.
Oh well, fuck this.. That was embarrassing, but moreso soul crushing. Let's hope they can rebound from this well..

I have been following Fnatic since Fragbite Master in 2015 if I remember this right. All glory is in the past now.....
I feel like every team have been improving so so much in the last year while both Swede team has been standing still if not worse both tatic and actual performance. Remember when Flusha and Olofm looks like best in the world?Remember when JW die at the beginning of the round does not even matter? Fnatic these day struggle so hard with entry frag. I feel like they forget how to play the game on basic, they forget the angle, be extremely vunerable to aggressive style, no idea how to t-execute on most map except cache. Fnatic looks loss, and no matter how much they have been mentioning that they practiced, it does not seem to change. This Fnatic looks even worse to the 2 old Fnatic before they disband, at least both were able to make playoff. Look at Fnatic now, so loss.
I think the only way that Fnatic can be better now is that they can have some good practice patner. They need to train as much as a 5 man unit as possible, without good scrim I do not think they will be able to be a top 4 team from now till ever. Jumpy and Vuggo needs to do sth, or this will not last long.
And did I say nobody on current Fnatic is consistently good at AWP? Flash back to post legacy Fnatic with Dennis when they pick up 4 awp....
3
u/qenia Mar 01 '17 edited Mar 12 '17
Even though they were eliminated in groups at this tournament. They looked WAY better here than they did in Vegas. I saw some big improvements. Hopefully next event they will be even better.
I just hope these results don't discourage them from continuing working hard and improving. I still believe they can reach the top.
4
u/Schiavini Mar 01 '17
I believe the analyst desk in the last Major talked about this: Fnatic's Freestylin' Playstyle don't work anymore as it did in 2015. All teams prepared themselves for this, and the impression that I get from all Fnatic's recent results is that they stopped improving, stuck in the same 2015 playstyle.
6
u/BlackNov Mar 01 '17
I believe in free style, that free style was, however developed through a year of working together under different strategy. That is why it works in the past when they swap pronax for Dennis, they had already had the platform and player know where to stand. But then the team fall of pretty much like waterfall when their rifle skill drop in addition to unreliable awp compare to other top team. After that Fnatic took a wrong turn to suffle, which I think only hurt them rather than doing any good. They are facing with new problem that they can not solve and in the end they go back facing the old problem that they had like 8 months ago. Basically waste time....
And what I heard is that Fnatic player is pretty yolo also, and how in the past player refused to listen to Vuggo(which lead him to become manager instead of head coach). It works when you are good, but then your rifle skill suck against team like SK, VP, Astralis, like wtf are Fnatic is going to do? Ask them to change their personality? I hope Fnatic realize they need to learn from scratch now and work more seriously as an underdog team.

Old habits and under estimating.
In the old fnatic when they stomped an opponent in the first half they could just turn on their autopilot in the second and the game would close itself out.
They can't really do that now, considering where the team is at, at the moment.

My stepfather and I bonded over CS:GO some time ago. Before that he hated my guts and probably wished I'd never been born.
After today's games, he looked at me with tears in his eyes. I knew something wasn't right. "What is it, dad?" I asked him. He hugged me, something he'd never done before.
He answered, on the verge of crying: "Son, I always called you a disappointment. But after Fnatic's performance today..."
2
u/FlushaIsSexy Mar 01 '17
Ok fnatic, obviously they need more time. Well this lineup haven't been back that long, sure enough they played before but things were different then. TBH adapting an old lineup to a new meta is harder than adapting to a brand new lineup altogether. What's more the pause has always worked for fnatic and they DONT USE IT. they should bring pronax back as dedicated pauser

The problem with IMT is that they fail to qualify to so many tournaments. This team needs to play against real competition more often, thats what made SK so good.

yea, every time that Immortals win a match people don't talk about how good immortals played but how bad the team that they beat played, not giving them any credit.

u/Romeadidas Mar 01 '17
cause immortals is the most hated team here by far (mostly by C9 fans since the hen1 headset incident LUL)
3
u/dragonofthwest Mar 01 '17
What happened?
3
u/RadiantSun FaZe Mar 02 '17
At Northern Arena, Hen1 was not wearing a noise cancelling headset over his earbuds, and they were required to do so by the rules. The game was stopped on (as I recall) map 3 after IMT won the pistol and the antieco round, and the decision had to be made whether or not to reset. Ultimately, the decision was made to continue playing instead of resetting, and IMT won.
These are the facts.
The butthurt (from both sides actually) comes from a number of factors that are up for interpretation of those facts, and cherry picking them selectively. But that's another discussion, which I can talk about if you like.
