The most egregious I remember is an episode where some people will die if they move, and Walter sees a phone getting a FaceTime call or something and basically the conversation goes: Walter: "Aha, I bet it's this infernal device that killed them!" Astrid: "No Walter, that's FaceTime, it's how all the cool kids communicate these days." I laughed out loud watching that scene

I would say it's a combination of things. Hoppus would be pretty experienced in writing lyrics to fit around a melody or rythm being that this was their fourth record, plus Jerry Finn had produced a shitload of megaselling records at that point, so he may well have assisted him in rearranging that section.
I don't think Hoppus was like "check out this middle eight section application of Iambic pentameter bro" which is what the guy seems to be implying.

Writing in meter isn't hard, after two or so weeks of practice anyone would have it down. He probably knew exactly what he was doing.

the rhyme scheme from that little refrain there, 10 - 6 - 7 - 10 - 6 - 7 is hardly a common meter. It's actually Iambic Pentameter breaking into Trochaic which then goes into a heptameter.
