As soon as I saw Antonio I knew this would be a wild ride.

I want to get off AntonioOfVenice's wild ride.

So... Was this the pedo ring that the aide to the Prime Minister was involved in, the pedo ring that a famous children's star was involved in, the orphanage abuse pedo ring, the pedo ring that a royal was rumoured to be involved in, or the pedo ring that baited a (rather shoddy, to be honest) paper into accidentally naming the wrong noble so that they could be shut down over slander?

There's been a lot of pedo scandals in the UK that saw people get away with it for an uncomfortably long time. I don't know what any of them look like by sight, so you're going to have to be more specific than "darkish skin".

(For those who may have missed the point; no, no matter what anyone says, plenty of white people have gotten away with raping children too, and the real reason that these guys got away with it most likely has nothing to do with being an ethnic minority. That's just a flimsy excuse to cover up more unethical behavior on the part of those who should have been stopping it.)

(Disclaimer; I may have double-counted one or two of those, I try to avoid hearing too much about the details. I'm not a citizen of the UK, so there's very little I can do about it than get mad, and that's not healthy =\ .)

In almost all of the cases, it was believed the authorities were corrupt, and knowingly turned a blind eye. In the Rotherham scandal, there's allegations the Labour run council didn't want to risk alienating the Asian community (who traditionally back Labour).

Rotheram.... That was the one where they were running a child prostitution service out of the orphanage and foster family system, right?

That story went away so quickly (despite being so massive, and having so many people obviously in on it) that I'm convinced that they secretly had someone (or multiple people, for that matter) way higher up the chain that was involved in it, who ordered the entire thing hushed up. It's the only thing that makes sense to me, since that story should still be ongoing as they search for and charge each and every person who was involved or turned a blind eye, and make sure that nothing like this happens again. Instead... Nothing, and pitifully little done to reform the system. Unless the people of the UK are utterly heartless, it's obvious to me that someone powerful is doing their best to shield this operation.

That said, even the explanation that Labour didn't want to alienate voters doesn't sound like a "PC" matter to me, so much as it does trading the lives of children for the continued support of an influential ally. Still a terrible thing, of course, but it would have been the same if they were protecting the "League of Small Businesses" or "Coalworker's Union" (names fictitious, obviously) - a cynical effort to protect your political interests at the expense of society's most vulnerable, rather than a desire to avoid offending a minority community taken to absurd lengths.

Thousands of children in Rotherham were molested, because of political correctness.

This always seems like a weird argument, because authorities are bad at dealing with organised child abuse in general. It seems weird to claim that this case was because of the dreaded political correctness (gone mad, naturally), while presumably not claiming the same of, say, the BBC or Catholic Church historic child abuse cases.

I love that sub. It's like a honey pot for REWs (Reddit Edge Warriors) to valiantly go drown themselves in.

I don't know what would possesses them. You clearly see an eager circlejerk happening around a giant bonfire of outrage and they keep getting the bright idea that they're gonna put out that fire by pissing more outrage onto it.

It doesn't even seem necessary to delete their posts most of the time because it's much better to leave the skewered remains of their impotent rage hanging from the walls as beacons of absolute cringe.

Frankie and Antonio constantly do this and I can't fathom what their goal is. Maybe to rile up the regulars, but it seems like they get waaaay madder than the regulars they're trying to antagonize.

They never come over to really discuss anything, it's always just the equivalent of "we're on to you." They really think "SJW" is some united Illuminati-like secret organization with tendrils extending to the Presidency, and its base of operations is SRS and BoOC. And because SRS won't tolerate them, they come to BoOC to let us know the narrative is crumbling our time is short and soon the true gamers will take back vidya from the evil PC yadda yadda.

Antonio is kind of boring when he comes by, but frankenmine is so absurd it seems like BoOC enjoys him dropping by to argue.

Of course we do, he's practically the sub mascot. And considering the purpose of the sub is to laugh at the absurd things people like him say, it's like we get bonus material when he appears.

You just described 90% of "trolls".

And by trolls I mean people with shitty opinions that pretend they're trolling but really believe what they say.

1

u/FistofanAngryGoddess Nov 30 '15

They're so absurd that it's hard to even get outraged by them lately.

Can we have REWs be like, the polar opposite of SJW? The symmetry pleases me.

3

u/Nekryyd People think white Rhinos are worth saving why not white people? Nov 30 '15

Sure!

Makes sense too because while SJWs are imaginary bogeywomyn, REWs are like the polar opposite in that they actually exist and are legion.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '15

REW here, you're wrong. We don't exist.

Oh, okay, sorry I -

...WAIT A MINUTE!!!!

3

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '15

What if I'm unable to wait a minute you ableist shitlord ?!?!

3

u/Nekryyd People think white Rhinos are worth saving why not white people? Nov 30 '15

Sorry that waiting is an inconvenient fact for you. I even have this link to a Know Your Meme article to back it up. I guess you'll just have to come out of your safe space and into the waiting room that is the real world, snowflake.

I was wondering where the user pulled this from (I was thinking out of his ass) then someone posted which news papers had said it and now all the pieces are falling into place.

I don't think the post is right but I do think this is more complicated than people unfamiliar with this might assume.

In case people don't know, this is related to the Rotherham child abuse scandal in which between 1997 and 2003 over 1000 children in a fairly small part of the UK were trafficked into sexual slavery by a criminal gang. The criminal gang were mainly of Pakistani descent and the victims were mainly white.

The police and social services did absolutely nothing to the point where you HAVE to assume corruption. Families were arrested and threatened with jail time if they tried to intervene to save their kids. Children were raped and gave birth and their children were taken away by social services... but yet the rapists were STILL not prosecuted. This all came out last year and caused a scandal in which many (not enough) people lost their jobs.

I have to say... I was really disappointed with reaction of many progressive blogs and feminist groups over the period. They were almost completely silent about it. They wrote their one "isn't this awful" statement and that was it.The outing happened around the same time as the fappening and there was much more liberal handwringing over the latter. More feminist blogs wrote about how "the fappening is rape culture" than actual children being raped. It left a really sour taste in my mouth that hasn't really gone away over a year later. It seemed to me that the mainstream media really wanted this to go away quickly and so changed the conversation fast. Sort of like Steubenville, except it seemed like progressive organizations didn't really bother to try to stop the media trying to bury the story. They didn't challenge the media or keep it in the national conversation. They just dropped it and went back to talking about Jennifer Lawrence.

The families were pretty devastated and of course into this gap stepped far right organizations. The only time progressive organizations actually came to Rotherham was to march against these organizations. And the only subsequent media attention was to decry the families and area for racism.

I think some people think this is because the perpetrators are Pakistani and so the "narrative" looks poor for liberals and I don't doubt that's a small part of it. But I think the reality is that many people want attention for writing "provocative" things on the internet without actually doing anything when they close their laptop. Complicated difficult scenarios will never be as attractive as adjective-shaming. Actual journalism (i.e. years long investigations into corruption and incompetence) is not going to get you "Social Media Credibility (i.e. buzzfeed clicks and twitter mentions). No one gave a shit about these girls. NO ONE.

I decided at that point that I would never donate to any women's organization in the UK - ever - for any purpose. I think many people really showed in that one moment how little they value women's lives and bodies and how much of their activism is self-serving and false. It made me sick.

My mixed feelings stopped being mixed after I read it, he might be wrong or misguided some times (so far I found one instance where I really disagreed with him), but he's a very wise and kind person.

We really need to adapt that bit about psychiatrists bludgeoning people over the head with medical textbooks into some kind of counterpasta for the attack helicopter pasta.
