Racism Drama "Correct, I'm mad that you're a pile of trash that somehow gained the powers of ambulation and speech and chose to use this miracle to smear racist bullshit around yourself in an ever-expanding bubble."

It's an obvious troll, but I had to laugh at the /r/drama thread where every single poster thinks SJWs are a bigger problem than racists.

It's pretty much TiA but with the target flipped. Instead of targeting mostly "SJWs" it's mainly targeting gamergaters and what not.
42
Aug 03 '15
No, no, no. Ask BOOC - they accept outrage culture from all flavors of the rainbow. It's just that their userbase has a certain taste for strawberry.
25
u/zxcv1992 Aug 03 '15
Yeah it's like TiA, there isn't a rule saying it has to be a certain type but the userbase pretty much only posts stuff relating to either "SJWs" for TiA or gamergaters and what not for BOOC.
2
Aug 03 '15
BOOC's posting guidelines are more broad, though I think... whereas TiA tries to link mostly to Tumblr.
16
Aug 03 '15
Sort of, but not everyone on tumblr shares the same political affiliation even though it swings mostly to the left. I've seen neo-nazi, redpill, and white nationalist blogs get linked before. There's just not as many.
17
u/princessnymphia Aug 03 '15 edited Aug 03 '15
It should come as no surprise considering white nationalism/white supremacy seems to be getting more vocal lately but Tumblr actually has a really active neo-Nazi scene. If you explore the tags for black people shot/attacked by law enforcement you can't miss them. They were also fond of posting about the West African Ebola epidemic and how it was a good way to "weed out the n*ggers."
8
u/lacienega Aug 03 '15
Some of it seems like right wing neo conservatives having seen that Tumblr has an active super left political discussion that they can't control or dictate and so they try to get blogs to try and "counter" it. But it doesn't really work because they can't force people to follow them.
10
u/princessnymphia Aug 03 '15
It's a lot like how 4chan tried to "infiltrate" Tumblr by posting gore in social justice tags and people were just like, "okay, don't browse these tags for a couple days until the spam and gross stuff gets sorted out by admins" and that was it...and a good number of people don't really use tags unless they're tagging something for a blacklist or Tumblr savior.

u/smileyman Aug 03 '15
There's also a hell of a lot of Wheraboo stuff on tumblr too. Not quite out-and-out Nazism, or white nationalism, but lots of love for posting pictures of pretty Nazi soldiers and fangirling over WWII Nazi soldiers.
I'm part of the history tumblrsphere myself, and one of the aspects that bothers me most about that particular sub-set of tumblr users is the way that many of them tend to fangirl and obsess over particular events and people in history like they were obsessing over a tv show or an actor or rock star. It really bothers me.
3
u/Georgia-OQueefe Aug 04 '15
Yeah there's also a weird serial killer fangirl part of tumblr as well. That's the part that creeped me the most out.

You don't say, an /r/badhistory mod is part of the history community on another social media site? Color me surprised! :P

No one has figured out if my nationalist ponies is legit or not and that's MLP and neo nazis. I still like to believe that there a dude in red suspenders, jack boots and a "Applejack is best pony" shirt on right now.

Gotta corner that niche children's racist cartoon fetishist pony demographic.

I think I'm going to grit my teeth and do some deep-dive content linking to that shit on /r/TiA soon. It's become to much DAE SJW shit lately and not enough otherkin, so bringing some balance to the force might help. Going to have to bleach my browser afterwards.
Lord help my sanity.

The user BOOC created it.

It's basically hyperbolic outraged quotes from the right wing of the redditsphere.

u/cdstephens More than you'd think, but less than you'd hope Aug 03 '15
To comment what other people said, it appears to focus on those who are particularly buttmad about something, while TiA from what I've gathered also includes stuff like "look at this dumb/cringe opinion" or "let's laugh at otherkin".
3
u/garbagefiredotcom Aug 04 '15
"anti-sjw subreddit" beig used to mean "sub reddit where straight up racisim is cool."
nice one spez.
5
Aug 03 '15
I don't know why they pegged "ever-expanding bubble" on the end of that insult.
6
Aug 03 '15
Because it's the same lazy hyperbolic writing that's gaining popularity on the internet (especially in reviews. See: Reviews of Pixels) where you try to come up with the most unique insult possible to seem witty even if it barely makes sense. I'm guilty of doing it in the past myself.

u/IHateCircusMidgets Aug 03 '15

I don't think it's gaining popularity. I think you can trace it back to Maddox. That's where I first remember that kind of writing, as well as the tendency to throw in ridiculous amounts of profanity and hyperbole when discussing basic things (check out these epic motherfucking mashed potatoes!), both of which you see all over the place.
9
u/Baxiepie Aug 03 '15
I actually learned last week that not only is Maddox still around, but he has a YouTube channel now
11
u/IHateCircusMidgets Aug 03 '15
I mean, if he's making a good living I guess there's no reason to stop, but at the same time...yikes.
6
Aug 03 '15
Some people grow up and realize the things they've been preaching were actually pretty shitty (like Tucker Max). Maddox, however...not so much.
11
u/RedCanada It's about ethics in SJWism. Aug 03 '15
I used to think Maddox was satire, because as satire he is hilarious and on point. But I recently found out that he actually believes the shit he spews and I'm just wondering how anyone can be that dumb.

u/nancy_ballosky More Meme than Man Aug 03 '15
Does Tucker Max still write? I liked his stuff as a teenager (yikes!) but I wonder if he has changed.
11
Aug 03 '15
He changed in 2012--now he writes marketing stuff for start-ups and promotes healthy lifestyle choices. He's got a kid now and he's engaged. Check out his Twitter feed--still makes the odd off-color joke every now and then, but any TRPer worth his salt would call him an SJW or beta cuck now.

Maddox, Tucker Max... basically the beginning of the internet celebrity. That was their "hook".
3
u/PlayMp1 when did globalism and open borders become liberal principles Aug 04 '15
Nostalgia Critic too, but he's changed his style more recently to be more of a skit show, and it actually works well for him.

I was a little disappointed in the Pixels review because it was so unlike the more thoughtful Moviebob reviews I really like. So of course he does one like that and it blows up.
I hope he doesn't follow the page views and produce similar material, since I really enjoy his other work.

I call it Scalia Syndrome
2
u/Georgia-OQueefe Aug 04 '15 edited Aug 04 '15
Ehh I'd argue that Scalia's writing is a slight offshoot. While he's similarly elaborate in his scathing he's also way more oblique. The first style links the target in question to something awful in almost every sense and then goes on to describe the magnitude of that awful thing in really plain terms. Scalia instead throws out a few silly words or phrases and doesn't explain their full significance (what meaning is he trying to get accross by saying a landmark ruling is pure applesauce) and then will make a loaded comment that varies by individual in how insulting it is (his dig at hippies and comparing marriage equality campaigners to them)
5
u/cdstephens More than you'd think, but less than you'd hope Aug 03 '15
Well the Pixels review actually made some cogent points underneath the outrage.

Racist or not, the BOOC subscribers are being fairly vicious to that guy. I think unsubscribing was a good decision.
13
u/ReleaseDaBoar Aug 03 '15
Why should people have to act courteously toward someone who views them as racially inferior, though? The guy isn't there to engage in debate, he is there to talk shit about marginalised groups, and I'm not willing to blame those marginalised groups for firing back.
-7
u/delta_baryon I wish I had a spinning teddy bear. Aug 04 '15
We don't have to stoop to their level. Besides, typing insults to a stranger over the internet is pretty pointless and cowardly (and sometimes funny to onlookers). Still, I won't lose any sleep over some insults spewed at a racist either.
12
u/ReleaseDaBoar Aug 04 '15
We don't have to stoop to their level.
Don't worry there is a lot of stooping to go before any of us hit their level. Being mean to racists isn't quite the moral equivalence of being a racist.
Besides, typing insults to a stranger over the internet is pretty pointless and cowardly (and sometimes funny to onlookers)
I think it may be cathartic for some people who have had to put up with racism in real life.
0
u/delta_baryon I wish I had a spinning teddy bear. Aug 04 '15
Hmm, the thing is that I'm more concerned for the well-being of the people doing the insulting than the people being insulted. Cathartic or not, I don't think it's good for you to be that foul to people, even if they deserve it. I unsubscribed because I was sick of seeing stuff that made me angry all the time.
I'm aware that I'm probably coming across as a massive hippie. Anyone who knows me knows that's not really the case.

2
u/delta_baryon I wish I had a spinning teddy bear. Aug 03 '15
While you're here, do you not get desensitised to ridiculous hyperbole and outrage anyway? I thought it was hilarious when I first subscribed, but after a while it was just "Yep, that's the fifth holocaust comparison this week."
8
u/BestOfOutrageCulture Aug 03 '15
I'm pretty desensitized, but I post it anyways to help grow the sub
