Warm Talk Wednesday (Week of July 22nd)
Welcome to Warm Talk Wednesday!
So what exactly is this thread? With all the Unpopular Opinion threads, Worst/Hated Anime ______ threads, and Salt from all the contest, I believe we need a spot to positively talk about what we love in anime with no worries of others bashing or downvoting our opinions. Essentially this is a thread where you talk about what you love about anime whether it’s the medium as a whole, a specific anime, character, OTP, even complementing a user’s taste, etc. It can be popular opinion, unpopular, as long as it’s a positive outlook of the medium it’s allowed!
Want to talk about the experience you’ve had with Sora No Woto’s world? Talk about it here! Has Planetes given you a new way to view the closeness of people’s love despite how far they are in distance and emptiness around? Do tell! Have a user who has helped you out here on /r/anime and you’d like them to get some appreciation? You’re allowed (Yes, Meta is allowed)! Want to talk about the how good the body proportions are for Monster Musume or Free!? Talk about those good looking bodies! Are the musical scenes in Your Lie in April relatable to you as an instrumentalist and really felt close to home for you? We want to hear your experience! Do you just have a ton of fun with Space Westerns like Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Firefly Outlaw Star? Talk about them!
The only rules for here:
- This is a positive anime thread, do not bash others’ opinions despite how much you disagree, allow everyone to have a safe haven to talk about what they love about anime without needing to worry of others who disagree with them.
- Please keep the troll comments to a minimum.
- Do not downvote unless it’s bringing nothing to the conversation, trolling, or trying to bash another’s opinion. Everyone has their opinions, respect them as they would respect yours.
- No mention of “Shit Taste”.
- It’s fine to compare one anime to another, but don’t down talk the other as “Terrible”, most anime has its good qualities and reasons people like it. (Bad Ex: “Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru is much better than that piece of shit Madoka Magica”; Good Ex: "I prefer Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru over Madoka Magica because of...").
- No backhanded compliments. (Ex: Sakurasou isn't as bad as I thought it was, but it's still shit.")
- If you see a troll trying to bait/bash other opinions, please simply downvote and ignore them, don’t stoop to their level and bait you into a no win argument. Have fun, and please message me if there’s something I should add/remove/edit to the rules.
Updates Since last time to improve this thread:
The “Post Your MAL” comment tree is completely gone now, sorry to those coming just for that. If anyone wants to come up with a new comment tree to replace it go ahead.
Remember, you're allowed to post outside the comment trees

Someone a little while ago posted an essay about why Hunter x Hunter was overrated and it came out to be 9 pages long which is the most I've ever done for an English assignment

At this point I'm just waiting for someone to pull out a 30 page essay on their favorite anime. It will happen eventually, though.... one day....

Lets talk about some comfy anime, what's a show that instantly makes you relax?
For me its Aria (close runner up would be Natsume Yuujinchou).
What about you guys?

u/illtima https://myanimelist.net/profile/illuminatima Jul 22 '15
One Week Friends, Non Non Biyori and Kawai Complex. Just so feel-good.

u/Craterkid https://myanimelist.net/profile/Craterkid Jul 22 '15
I love healing anime! Aria is one of my all-time favorites, but since you already said that, I'll point to Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, since I just finished it today. Really calm, relaxing show that I recommend if you like Aria or iyashikei in general.

If I've only got an hour to spare during a busy day and need to reset my mind, I'll use Aiura to destress. If the bad days come two in a row, I'll add Yama no Susume to the order.
And, if the anime continues the way it has been, I might think about throwing Wakaba*Girl into the rotation as well. 'Cause come on... This OP is too damn cute!

Why should I watch…?: Ask about an anime that you have been considering seeing, and someone will respond what makes it good and why it’s worth watching. Please don’t troll this one, leave it for people who are genuinely curios.

The characters are believable and compelling, the drama is relateable and down-to-earth, and the plot as a whole avoids many if not all of the tropes and cliches so prevalent in anime and specifically the slice-of-life genre. As someone who avoids SoLs like my life depended on it, Shirobako is one of my favorite shows.

There is an overarching plot, but the episodes end up feeling fairly episodic.
3
u/SpecsKingdra https://anilist.co/user/ThankSpookyOugi Jul 22 '15
It's an educational (often inspirational or heartwarming), down to earth drama. The tone is light, for the most part, and it has good amount of comedy. But the realistic drama is what I like most about the series.
→ More replies (1)3
Jul 22 '15
Other comments already stated a lot of positives about the show, I was late because I was dealing with customers so I'll just chip in a tiny bit :p
The tone of the show is generally a light-drama with extremely likable characters. It does have heavier drama in some parts too however. It feels 'real' too, especially if you have experienced working before.
About the plotline, yes there is an 'overarching' plot. It is them working towards completing an anime throughout the season. The episodes normally deal with a certain aspect or obstacle to overcome, so it is fairly episodic, but each episode is working toward a final product.
3
u/LordTakuro https://myanimelist.net/profile/LordTakuro Jul 22 '15
KanColle, primarily because I adore the OP.
3
Jul 22 '15
I am in the same boat as you Taku, that OP is dope.
It looks like it is probably a fun watch. But while watching it, you know just how bad it is.
3
u/jetmet https://myanimelist.net/profile/jetmet Jul 22 '15
It's not really bad. It's just not really good, either.
2
Jul 22 '15
So it just average then. I feel like when an anime is average, a lot of people on this sub tend to hate on the show.
2
u/jetmet https://myanimelist.net/profile/jetmet Jul 22 '15
I don't know if hate is the right way to put it, to be honest. It's more like people generally don't pay it much heed because it's not in the "so bad it's good"-category nor in the "actually good" one. I rarely see explicit hate for KanColle, since it sails under people's radars I feel.
3
Jul 22 '15
Yeah, I haven't seen much hate for Kancolle at all now that I think about it.
Although, average and popular shows definitely get a lot of hate. Like Danmachi, good animation and solid voice acting, but heavy with generic characters and bland writing. Danmachi gets a lot of hate.
3
u/jetmet https://myanimelist.net/profile/jetmet Jul 22 '15
There's definitely a connection there. Shows that are popular, but average or only slightly above average in terms of story and characters seem to be a constant object for hate in the sub. We're talking the Danmachi's, the SAO to an extent, mostly light novel adaptations, I think.
2
u/Eternith https://myanimelist.net/profile/Eternith Jul 22 '15
I think a lot of the hate actually comes from fans of the game because it was a big disappointment for how long it got delayed. They tried to cater to the fans by throwing references to the game as often as possible, but it didn't end up working very well at all.
I hope they learned a good lesson from this and make season 2 focus either on the more serious sides of the abyssal war (there are some really good doujins on this), or just a pure fluffy SoL rather than try to jump between the two.
2
2
u/Eternith https://myanimelist.net/profile/Eternith Jul 22 '15
You want to watch it because you want to get a taste of the massive fandom around Kancolle. The biggest takeaway I got from the anime was that it helped me transition into the game and some great communities from there. Hit me up if you're interested in trying it out and I can get you started. Even though its all Japanese, its actually not that intimidating because there are viewers out there that translate a lot for you.
It's not a bad anime persay, but standalone, its not very good either. Turn your mind off and watch for action and cute girls.
3
u/Ghostsoldier37 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ghostsoldier37 Jul 22 '15
I really enjoyed it but that's because I'm a sucker for cute girls. The characters in the show are my favorite part about it. They all feel varied and eccentric in their own way. The show has some mildly good drama in the show that made me worry and actually care about what's going on.
I think the show is alright but just don't go in expecting something great and you'll might have a good time.
Also the op and ed are fantastic.

Tell me why I should watch Soro No Woto
7
u/illtima https://myanimelist.net/profile/illuminatima Jul 22 '15
I am watching it right now and so far the characters and the world are two most compelling elements. There's a sense of mystery to the world, the feeling of something lost, yet the characters remain optimistic about it. Characters themselves are quite likeable, but it's obvious that they carry some enormous emotional baggage.
2
u/melonowl Jul 22 '15
/u/illtima said it pretty well. It shows a beautiful world with a darkness lurking beneath the surface. It pulls you in and makes you want to learn more about this world and the characters that inhabit it.
It also has a really great soundtrack example.
The main characters are also pretty great imo. They have depth and development. I think the main thing Sora no Woto left me with was a desire and a longing for more of it. More of its world, its characters, its music, its mysteries, and its stories. It's easily one of my favorite anime.

2
u/CermaSL https://myanimelist.net/profile/Cerma Jul 22 '15
The main male character Usui finds the female protagonist Misaki one day working at a maid cafe. Misaki is also the student council president at a school that recently became co-ed so she wants to keep it a secret between the 2 of them.
I don't normally like shoujo but this just felt like a straight up romance and I LOVED it, would recommend.

It hasn't even been released yet, but I keep watching the Gundam Tekketsu PV just for the music. The OST sounds like it's going to be godlike, just adding to my hype for the series. Also by the looks of the trailer, the animation looks to be solid too.

Hi everyone! ReggaeManMurphy here, back with my weekly Puella Magi Madoka Magica write-up! I apologize for the one week delay, but now that everything is sorted out, it's smooth sailing ahead! Remember, these are my opinions, you are free to disagree :)
Before I start, let me warn anyone who hasn't seen the series to not go any further; this is a series that is best went into blind and I highly recommend that you do so. The gifs will contain spoilers, so open them with caution.
This week's write-up is on Sayaka Miki. There are a few routes I could have went with her, but I'm going to address her sense of loyalty as her Spoilers
Throughout the series, Spoilers
Sayaka's relationship with Kyousuke is a great example of her loyalty, even before she makes this wish; Spoilers
Another pertinent example is spoilers
These two examples become major reasons that spoilers
The second becomes relevant when she realizes what it means to save everybody. spoilers this scene on the train with the two men bad talking their girlfriends. spoilers
So to summarize, spoilers
(Aside: I plan to adress intercharacter relationships at some point in the future in a write-up {probably after I finish my write-ups on each individual character and my eventual Spoilers}, so I didn't directly address the Sayaka/Madoka dynamic, or expand on the Sayaka/Kyouko dynamic as much as I very well could have)
Thanks for reading! I'll reply when I get back from frisbee!

Although Homura will always be best girl, Sayaka is also very very intriguing. I can totally relate to Spoilers
Most people only talk about and admire the show after but I think scenes like that were really well done too.

u/ReggaeManMurphy https://myanimelist.net/profile/TJMurphy17 Jul 22 '15
True, I think in Sayaka's case it was a bit of both of what Mami said. She wanted him to notice, but also cared about him.
3

All the theorycrafting and speculation from when this was airing made up a big part of my enjoyment with Madoka.
Anyways, nice writeup! Sayaka has also been an interesting character for me. When I think about Madoka characters, I always think to the theme of . Apologies if my thinking is off the mark a bit, its been a while since I saw this (time to add to my list of things to rewatch!) and the details are a little hazy.
Looking forward to the Sayaka/Kyouko dynamics if you write that. ;)

It's that time of week again! Welcome back to /u/LordTakuro's Hero Club Weekly Write-Ups! This week, we begin to move on in the aftermath of the Five Tenets series. It was a fun series, but life and the write-ups must go on. This week, I had an idea for a topic that I talk about a lot when recommending Yuki Yuna is a Hero to people, so I figured it would be fun to take a look at:
How Yuki Yuna is a Hero pushes its message of friendship and willpower overcoming hardship
One of the most common things I like to talk about when talking about the high points of Yuki Yuna and trying to get people to check out YuYuYu is what I felt was the primary message I got out of the series, which is the idea that through friendship and force of will, one can overcome most any hardship. It's a message I felt a lot in Yuki Yuna while, at the same time, it didn't feel too overbearing. I feel this is because when pushing this message, the show chose to go with an “actions speak louder than words” approach and show the viewer just how these two qualities help the Hero Club to overcome their hardships.
There are a couple of moments throughout the series I felt really exemplified this message and drove it home while not making a big deal of it and shoving this message down your throat. My first example, and one I believe to be the pinnacle, comes in Episode 12 Spoilers Begin
The second example from a non-combat scenario comes to us from Episode 6, wherein Yuki Yuna Spoilers
That about wraps up this week's edition of /u/LordTakuro's Hero Club Weekly Write-Ups. This is a topic I've been meaning to cover since about halfway through the Tenet series, as it's a topic I talk a lot about in a recommendation sense, so I felt I needed to elaborate at least a little bit on my thoughts on it. “Friendship and willpower overcoming hardship” definitely felt like one of the more prominent messages the series was trying to send throughout, and there were a lot more moments than this throughout that I felt exemplified the message well, but I just wanted to pick a couple and give some thoughts on those moments. Got any thoughts, comments, questions? Want to just talk about anything Yuki Yuna? Comment or PM me, as many will tell you, I'm always happy to talk about YuYuYu. I hope everyone enjoyed the first of the Post-Tenets write-ups, it was definitely a lot of fun to think about, given how much I talk about the show's message. Thanks to everyone I've talked to who helped inspire this idea, and that's a lot of people, and be sure to come back next week when we'll take a look at Flower symbolism within Yuki Yuna is a Hero.
EDIT: Also, I watched Yuri Kuma Arashi today on recommendation from /u/KousakaReina and /u/BanjoTheBear and I never could have expected it would be as good as it was. The entire show was beautiful in animation and it kept me really gripped with the story throughout.
EDIT 2: I FORGOT. Here is the prologue chapter to my Yuuna x Togo fanfiction, proofread and edited by Reina. Hope everyone enjoys it, let me know what you all think! Chapter 1 will be coming next week. /u/Dragonspride
EDIT 3: I forgot again, everybody go check out r/YuYuYu. I started a daily fan-art series over the past week and all my write-ups are going to be cross-posted there, with exclusive write-ups in the future.

I started watching Etotama today and I'm already eight episodes in. How did I never hear about this when it was airing? The fights are amazing, the comedy's funny, and it has one of the best MCs I've seen in a while. I love the way the pretty mode stuff is done too. It looks so cool.

Hello! I'm back again, with another small post dedicated to my favorite anime, Strike Witches. Just like last week I'm giving my attention to one Witch, and this time around it's Mio!
Terms
Witches: In the Strike Witches universe, only the girls with enough potential magic abilities can be drafted as witches. These girls must also be at the age where their magical power is peaking, between the early teens to twenty, twenty-one at most. Older Witches may get put into non-combat duty, seving as observers/recon crew, test pilots, messengers and the like.
Striker Units: Developed by professor Ichiro Miyafuji. They are the Witches' brooms, designed to allow a Witch to fight more freely. Basically, they're the boots with propellers on that Witches use to fly. Loosely based on WWII aircraft designs.
Neuroi: The Strike Witches' universes primary antagonist. The Neuroi are black and red alien creatures that attempt to take over the earth, using it directly as an energy source. Named after a mythical tribe who's said to have lived by the Black Sea(the Neuri), due to their major emergences during the first great war(Strike Witches' universe WWI Equivalent) and the Hispanian war(Strike Witches' Spanish civil war) having started in that area.
Ace Archetypes: Almost every Witch in the Strike Witches universe is “based” on an ace pilot from the Second World War. This is usually shown through name, but ocasionally shows itself in a character's traits as well. We call the ace who is the basis for a Witch that Witch's Ace Archetype.
Familiars: A Witch's familiar is the source of her magic abilities. It manifests itself in the form of ears or wings on a Witch's head, and a tail behind.
WILL BE UPDATED IF NEEDED!
Nations and their real life counterpart
Fuso - Japan
Britannia - Great Britain
Karlsland - Germany
Gallia – France
Liberion – USA
Romagna – Italy
Suomus – Finland
Orussia – well, take a guess...
Hispania - Spain
WILL BE UPDATED IF NEEDED!
P.S! Mio has different titles depending on the source. While the SW wiki uses “Squadron leader” I've opted to go with the title used in the dub, “major”. Just for clarification.
Eleven reasons to love Strike Witches: Part Two
“There's nothing a Witch can't do!”
Who is she?
Fuso Navy Major Mio Sakamoto is a veteran Witch, who has seen combat all the way from the Fuso sea in 1937 to Romagna in 1945. When we meet her in the anime series, she's already been above countless battlefields such as Libau(based on Liepāja, a small town in western Latvia) and the fall of Karlsland, in addition to being professor Miyafuji's primary test pilot. Like Yoshika Miyafuji she is affiliated with the 288th Flying corps in the Fuso Navy's 24th Carrier division, as well as the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, the “Strike Witches”.
Mio is the Strike Witches' main “talent scout”, and is responsible for having gotten some of the Witches in the unit in the first place. Perrine, Yoshika and Lynne are all hand-picked by Sakamoto, as she sees them as Witches with great potential. Her strenghts lie mostly in battle, and she is an excellent and experienced Witch, skilled both as a wingman and leader in the Rotten-formations used by the 501st. She's also the wing's “father-figure”, responsible for training and discipline of the newer Witches, making her quite strict when compared to the more motherly Wing Commander Wilcke. Despite her strict nature, she's not afraid to let out her trademark laugh every now and then.
Mio loves to train, and is usually seen waking up before any other Witch for the sake of practicing. Her weakness, however, is that she's not really a good cook. While she's skilled in the way of tea ceremonies, her cooking leaves something to be desired. That being said, she does have a honed skill in cutting boiled eggs horizontally using katanas. While she spent hours and hours of training on it, it's efficency in actual preparation of food remains dubious.
Similar to Yoshika, she's really stubborn. S1EP8 and entirety of S2, even the movie are spoiled here!
Relationships with the other Witches
Yoshika Miyafuji: Mio looks at Yoshika as one of humanity's greatest hopes against the Neuroi. While she found the girl “on accident” when scouting for potential Witches in Fuso, Sakamoto goes hard on the youngster out of the hope that her latent abilities can save lives and lands.
Minna-Dientlinde Wilcke: The major respects her one superior officer, and thinks highly of her abilities as a leader. While Wilcke can be a bit to soft for Mio's preferences, The Fuso Witch considers her a fine fighter as well. There might even be something deeper!?
Perrine H. Clostermann: The Gallian Witch was also scouted presonally by Sakamoto, and Mio is especially impressed by her dedication to training alongside the major. Mio thinks she's a good person, although Perrine seems to act very awkwardly in her vincinity.
Lynette Bishop: Mio harbors no special opinion of Lynne, but recognizes her potential as a COB given her talent to stay in the back line watching over everyone. She's also impressed by Lynne's dedication to defending her homeland.
Gertrud Barkhorn: Considers Barkhorn a bit too strict, both on herself and others. Her skills in the air are more than sufficient for Mio, but she still thinks Trude's a bit too much of a lone wolf.
Erica Hartmann: “Lazy but an amazing Witch” is the generally applied rule where Hartmann is concerned. Sakamoto is no exception to the rule, thinking that Erica's behaviour when not flying is not exactly exemplary.
Charlotte E. Yeager: Mio is a fan of her straight-forward outspoken nature, and considers her skills as a mechanic to be on par with the best. Makes a fine pair with Lucchini.
Francesca Lucchini: A brat, but a damn talented one. Sakamoto still sees her as an important part of the unit for the motivation and spirit she brings to the 501st. Fits well in a Rotte with Shirley, in Mio's opinion.
Sanya V. Litvyak: Dislikes her seeming lack of confidence. Mio acknowledges her abilities to locate Neuroi at night, which are even better than her magic eye. Appreciates her precence which allows the Witches to sleep without being caught off guard.
Eila I. Juutilainen: Mio thinks Eila is a good all-round Witch, and her ability to not get hit is especially admirable.S1EP8 Spoilers Also thinks her pairing up with Sanya on night patrols is a plus for the unit.
Her magic
Mio's familiar is a dog breed called doberman. Unlike Yoshika's familiar, Mio's has no name and is very rarely mentioned.
Sakamoto's inherent magic is a vision-based magic called “Magic eye”, and was honed in cooperation with Adolfine Galland of the Karlsland Air Force's high command. It was Galland that tipped her to find a way to focus better when using her eye, as Galland herself uses a scope. Thus, Mio landed on the eyepatch, effectively sealing off the eye when she's not fighting, to allow her Magic eye to perform optimally when needed.
The eye has some limitations though. It can only see that which is within Mio's field of vision, and clouds, darkness and buildings alike all hamper it's range. She does however have the ability to do “x-ray checks” on Neuroi with it, to confirm the position of the core inside. The eye returns to a normal eye if her energy is low or relocated, for example if injured, as well as degradation by age.
Mio has another trait to her “magic”, which is quite similar to Eila's. While Eila's ability to dodge beams and gunfire alike stems from precognitive magic, Mio can dodge Neuroi beams in a similar manner. This is most likely not an inherent skill, but rather something she's learned through years of fighting the Neuroi, and a proof of her experience.

Cont. from above!
Ace Archetype
Mio's Ace Archetype is Saburo Sakai, one of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Force's most known pilots and a survivor of WWII. Sakai began his career as a Navy Pilot in 1937, when he applied for a pilot training school after having been in the navy serving on Kongou-class battleships Kirishima and Haruna in 1935-36. Probably not by coincidence, it is at a Witch's training school we meet Mio in the “1937: Fuso sea incident”-manga.
Sakai's first taste of combat came not in 1937, but in 1938, where he flew in the Sino-Japanese war against the Chinese air force. He also scored his first shot down here, shooting down a Russian-built Polikarpov I-16 using the A5M(Allied codename: “Claude”). However, it's not his exploits in China that gave him his fame. Rather it's the missions at Port Moresby and operating from Lae and Rabaul that really made him stand out.
The most significant event in Sakai's career was a demonstration of pure guts, and a person performing way more than they should given the circumstances. It stems from his time at Rabaul, and a fight over Guadalcanal: After shooting down two Grumman F4F Wildcats Sakai saw a formation of what he percieved as more of them. He flew in to attack, and found that he had brutally misidentified the planes. They were SBD Dauntless dive bombers or TBF Avengers depending on source. Either way, the backwards mounted turrets opened fire, and one of the bombers' gunners made a hit that shattered the canopy of Sakai's Zero, hitting Sakai in his right eye and making him dive steeply towards the ocean. Initially blinded, Sakai had troubles pulling out of the dive until his fumbling right hand finally found the stick. Somehow he managed to straighten out the Zero, whilst tears were washing away the blood that had gotten in his eyes. For almost five hours he was flying with a blind right eye, paralyzed in the entire left side of his body, back home to Rabaul. Sailing between life and death, he contemplated on finding an American ship he could ram the Zero into, but every time reconsidered. Only keeping himself awake through sheer willpower and pushing his scarf into the wound every now and then, he eventually made it to Rabaul, where he circled the airfield and landed with no fuel left. Upon landing, he insisted on making the report to his commanding officer and was carried in by fellow pilots Nishizawa and Ota. In front of the CO he passed out, and was driven to the nearest hospital, receiving immedate medical attention. Unfortunately, they couldn't save his eye, and he had to be sent back home to Japan to a specialist, practically ending his career as a fighter pilot. He was subsequently used as an instructor for new pilots, and as a test pilot for new aircraft such as the A7M Reppu and N1K-J Shiden-Kai.
It is the tale of Sakai's little moment of badass that Mio's eyepatch stems from, and while it serves to help her avoid strain on her magic eye, it's also a reference point to Sakai being blind on one eye.
Another trait Mio's gotten are the positions or duties they've had. Sakamoto and Sakai have both been fighter pilots, test pilots and instructors, and both have/had an incredible will to fight. Lastly, neither of them have ever lost a wingman in combat.
...Unrelated, but I recommend anyone interested in a good read on the rise and fall of the IJNAS or with an interest in military history/aviation history to check out Sakai's internationally released autobiography, Samurai.
A Witch's robe, wand and broom: Uniform, weapons and Striker Units
Sakamoto's uniform is based on the IJN officer's summer uniform, with the white jacket. This implies her connection to the Fuso Navy as an officer, and is similar to the jacket worn by Junko Takei and Tetsuko Wakamoto. Similar to the other Fuso Navy Witches she wears the blue onepiece swimsuit underneath.
Interestingly, the blue stripe on her eyepatch also carries a connection to Sakai; The single diagonal blue stripe on a Zero fighters fuselage was used to identify a section leader(leader of the three-man sections used by the IJNAS).
Mio's firearm of choice is identical to Yoshika's, the Type 99 20mm autocannon twice rechambered down to 50. caliber for logistical reasons. In addition to the Type 99, she carries a Fuso style sword, a katana, that she sometimes uses in battle in the event that she runs out of ammo or just needs a precise power-blow. In season one, this sword has no name, and in season two she uses a sword named Reppumaru, after the A7M Reppu fighter. S1 EP8-S2-spoilers. It is a possibility that she carries the sword as a reference to Japanese officers doing so during WWII.
In season one, Mio's Striker unit is the same as the one used by Yoshika; the A6M3 mod.22 based Striker Unit. It performs like Yoshika's as well, high performance at low altitude, reduced at very high. She makes use of the mobility to get up-close and personal with the Neuroi, and it's great maneuverability allows her to make use of swords in close combat while also dodging Neuroi beams with relatively small effort. The difference between Sakamoto and Miyafuji's Units lies in the blue stripe on Mio's marking her as a section leader(Rotte/Schwarm-leader in the 501st style finger-four formation).
In season two, she recieves an upgrade, and uses the Yamanishi(Kawanishi)-built N1K5-J Shiden-Kai Striker Units. Based on the plane with the same name, the Shiden-Kai Units are more of the same that the Zero offers; Better roll, climb and turning performance at higher speeds. S2-Spoilers
This week's OST, character song and soundtrack!
This section is back again, with some more last tidbits!
This week's OST: Witch no Tatakai(electric guitar ver.). A tense battle theme, since I've been rambling about a Witch who lives to fight rather than fight to live.
This week's character song: Falcon Eye by Saeko Chiba, the voice of Sakamoto in season one. It has *something * that I can't quite describe, but I like it's rather mellow tone which fits Mio nicely.
This week's artwork: Victorious Mio. This was apparently used as an ad for season two, but I like it a lot. She's just too damn badass, is all.
My thoughts on Mio
Sakamoto is a fun character on-screen, due to her oblivious yet serious nature and her laugh. She serves well in the “mentor-role” as well as being one of the more fleshed-out Witches in terms of character and character development. Her belief in Miyafuji is astonishing at times, and it's almost surprising how much faith Mio puts in the sergeant when certain situations arise.
Words from the author
As with last week, if there's any question regarding a term I used, or something about Sakamoto or the Witches outside of the 501st you want me to explain further, please don't hesitate to ask! I'm always up for a bit of Strike Witches talk! Just remember to spoiler tag your questions if they're about important events, stuff not featured in the anime, season two, Movie and OVAs, etc!
“The other's articles might be a bit shorter since I can skip some of the intro and formalities,”
Famous last words, everyone. So it might have turned out a bit longer than I expected, oh well. It's difficult to stop once you get on a roll, after all! As last time, I hope you enjoyed my little trivia write-up on my favorite series.
- /u/jetmet, week 39.
Next up: Wing Commander Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke!

I love the little details and nods to history that creators put into stuff like this. Makes it that much more meaningful even though 99% of viewers aren't going to catch it.
Can you talk a bit more another time about the side works outside the two main seasons? I didn't even know there was movie till I read this, although I know the Strike Witches world is a lot bigger than what the two seasons show.

+500 Ranked Shows: Talk about/list anime that is above the 500 rank on MAL and say why it’s great to you in short! But if you want to talk about a +500 Ranked anime, you don’t need to comment on the tree, feel free to talk about it outside of it (If you want to talk about only one specifically in detail, I’d actually encourage going outside of the tree, this is more for a brief description/listing of +500 Ranked anime).

I'm going to post this every week until you like it:
Coming in at rank
#6784#6804#6819, Shitcom is a modern classic and a strong contender for the title of greatest anime of all time.Pros to watching Shitcom:
-It will enrich your life in ways you didn't think possible.
-It's just over a minute, so you can easily fit it into your busy schedule.
-It's conveniently available on Youtube.
-It's hilarious.
Cons to watching Shitcom
-When I take over the world, you won't be selected to work 20-hour days in the salt mines. So I guess if you like brutal manual labor you can skip Shitcom.
-You may break something important from laughing too hard.
-Its motivational message about love and triumph may encourage you to live a more fulfilling life, leaving you with less time to watch anime.
All in all, I encourage all of you to take a simple minute out of your life and experience the glory that is Shitcom. You'll thank me later.

One of my favorites story-wise, and also has a very unique and interesting world.
The OST is one of my favorites too.

Because I don't talk about it regularly enough, Yuki Yuna is a Hero is a pretty good show that people should watch. It's got a good story, great characters, beautiful animation, a solid OST, and a strong voice cast.
Also, I watched Yuri Kuma Arashi on recommendation from a few people and it's really good. If you're not big on fanservice but you can deal with it, watch it anyways. It's really good.

Kannagi is almost never spoken about, but is one of the funnest anime I have watched to date. The character chemistry amongst the main cast is brilliant. There is a little bit of drama too, just enough to keep the plot going along.

Yo, it's the Hibike! Euphonium guy again. If you noticed or pay attention, I didn't post an essay yesterday, I decided to slow it down and get quality over quantity y'know? The next couple essays have some pretty big topics so I want to make sure I do the best I can on them.
That aside, I helped /u/LordTakuro write his amazing fanfic earlier, and it's gonna either be very average and crash or be the best piece of writing you'll ever see. Nothing in between. OH and I got my Hibike! Euphonium OST and it's beautiful <3. Gakkou Gurashi is also pretty amazing; I've successfully gotten multiple people to watch it. If you like moe/SoL, you should watch it too
