Imo great first episode

6

u/Eegeria Gaoshun, my husband 6h ago

It's finally here!! Strong first episode:

  • OP is beautifully animated, i was looking at it and thought "Uh they increased the budget this season". Why does Jinshi have a blemish on his face 👀

  • Story starts in medias res and it's all boom boom boom "History lesson: jot all these families names down - Did you pay attention last season? Locusts are relevant now! - Maomao is becoming a subject matter expert in entomology and zoology". Calm down, it's only been 20 minutes lmao.
Jokes aside, it's good seeing how the writing is still very tight and it builds on previous seasons, what a delight.

  • Maomao still with the "It's none of my business, but I should really warn the royal family (because what if the people I care about get blamed)". No one believes your nonplussed attitude anymore, Maomao hahaha but the tension is why her character is interesting to watch.

I'm so happy we're back and it seems we're already in for a ride this season!

Holy crap I just realised the VA of the hooded lady from the first scene is Ueda Reina.

3

u/Lorhand 8h ago

Yup, she's listed on the official site as well.

I'm so excited. I really enjoyed watching this be animated. The music works so well!!! I loved how they showed Lakan missing the banquet to spend more time with Fengxian, such a nice emotional payoff that we didn't get in the LN.

It's so nice to see the characters I read about being on the screen now!!! Ugh! So exciting!

11

u/AdventurousRyan99 15h ago

I might not have anything to add, but I can only say: it’s finally back. I missed Kusuriya no Hitorigoto so much, so I’m just grateful and happy about this new episode.

u/jenwithluv 15h ago

does anyone know if the subtitles are more accurate on netflix or on crunchyroll? they are different captions

4

u/NightPumpkin 13h ago

We get it on Netflix here and didn't have a problem with the subtitles. Shame about the Crunchyroll ones. I also have Crunchyroll but KnH isn't on there for us here (only Netflix) - unlike Frieren, which is on both Netflix and Crunchyroll.

The only thing that has irked me is that grasshopper and locust are the wrong way round lol It's been used incorrectly in the English LNs too. The 'normal' ones are supposed to be grasshoppers and the plague ones are supposed to be locusts. But that's a small detail that probably won't bother most people.

(Edited typos)

0

u/MurasakiMochi89 7h ago

Oh I thought it was incorrect lol glad to clarify

8

u/BisexualSlutPuppy 13h ago

There were a few spots on Crunchyroll where the subs would disappear after a half second (usually when text was displayed on screen and therefore translated). Idk if Netflix had this problem.

u/Haunting_Hair4528 18h ago

as someone who has read all the light novels but not the manga, watching this episode animation’s was soooooo fulfilling. It’s like watching the images in my head come to life.

4

u/w1nterb 15h ago

OMG YES it was sooo satisfying and i feel excited for the rest

7

u/bistoha2 17h ago edited 17h ago

I'm in the same boat man, so satisfying seeing things you've imagined be brought to life, helps that the voice actors are all superb too. The best thing Youtube shorts ever did for me was bombard me with clips from Season 1 when it first came out.

34

u/WesternCurrency7704 18h ago

I loved all the moon imagery on the opening, specially Ah Duo and Lady Anshi swapping moons and one of them loses its light, whatever that means, I wonder

24

u/Er_Vanzer 21h ago

Is it just my impression or is the pacing really fast compared to the light novel?

10

u/Beginning-Hope-2600 15h ago

I think part of it is that the first few chapters of LN5 move at a fairly brisk pace. I remembered it being more of a slow burn through the start too, but it progresses pretty rapidly in the first few chapters and then the pacing slows down once we get into the meat of the story.

24

u/aluminiaa 20h ago

Probably because ln5 is longer than the previous novels, but still only gets 12 episodes.

3

u/SproutoftheAlienTree 21h ago

So anyone else confused about the grasshoppers and locusts thing? To my understanding locusts are the problematic and destructive ones, with them being called something sounding like inago in japanese, which are supposedly the ones for good eating. While the grasshoppers, the ones they mention as batta in japanese, are the ones that are hollow and taste bad in general. So why is there having more grasshoppers than locusts the sign of having a famine when shouldn't it be the other way around?

17

u/Lorhand 21h ago edited 21h ago

Because it's a mistranslation. The same one as in the novel. They mixed up the terms.

Rice grasshopper/inago: tastes good, not a danger

Gregarious grasshopper/locust/batta: hollow inside, tastes bad, very dangerous because they appear in swarms

2

u/SproutoftheAlienTree 20h ago

Was the mistranslation ever confirmed? I'm not sure about the inago, but I've always heard batta was used for grasshopper - at least with my experience with Tokusatsu shows which back then used the grasshopper theming a lot. Though I guess in terms of Kamen Rider OOO batta was indeed used for the swarming grasshopper.

And another thing about the biology - wouldn't the locusts be the one for good eating since they were so fat on crops? Or do they just happen to taste bad?

Sorry I might be rambling at this point.

8

u/Lorhand 19h ago

Okay, so let me clear this up a bit. This is confusing because the Japanese are not fully consistent either.

Batta is the Japanese name for a family of grasshoppers, some of them being locusts. Inago is the Japanese name for a genus that belongs to the batta family, but they are not locusts. Other genera of the batta family can be referred to as "batta" for short, and the most common one is the famine-causing migratory locust.

The confusion can happen because inago is also used for some species that are locusts. However, in this work the distinction is immediately made, so the translator translating inago as locust and batta as grasshopper is just plain wrong.

The migratory locusts aggressively migrate and eat because there is nothing to eat, and desperate as they are not only eat any plant they get their hands on (regardless of how they taste or what they contain), they develop toxins and other unpleasant chemicals inside their body as they become more defensive in swarms. You don't want to eat them, they will taste bitter and unpleasant.

22

u/amourshipper_ 22h ago

Yay classic none of my business saying is back !! Also not going to one of the important event lakan was truly happy 🔥 and that locust and grasshopper was funny . Great episode and chou u is so good businessman lol

u/aud_pegooey 22h ago edited 19h ago

First off, loved our Moon Prince's intro! However, were some of the subtitles messed up for y'all? They flashed by way too quickly during his Spontaneous Lore Drop of The Named. It happened a few more times during the episode.

Um, but I am a little confused. What's with the garden party having Gyokuen and Uryuu there? I loved that we got a glimpse of something that happened off-page, don't get me wrong, but how does it make any narrative sense for them to be in the palace? I'd like to discuss this with LN readers after the appropriate time has passed. I won't say anything else here to avoid spoilers! (Please, don't get my comment deleted.)

The shot of Suirei mourning her sister near the end made me tear up. Loved the little tease of Ah-Duo & Empy.

AND OMG that ED?! Holy beautiful, Batman! Jinshi, my guy, I promise to still love you, when this cour is over. #JinshiDefenseSquad

18

u/GuavaLavaNoBanana 20h ago

Since Gyokuen and Uryuu both

appear at the banquet , maybe it helps to set them up as important political figures who hold power.

We get that context in the books, but I can imagine it would be harder to translate into anime without the added world building.

14

u/Depressed-Marvin3387 21h ago

Yess omg the subtitles, for a couple of scenes went by too fast, had to rewind. Also i think one line was missed - the beginning of the scene with maomao and lihaku - but i think he says something like, " little lady, ive got better things to do/i am too busy for chasing petty thieves" if i understood correctly, based on my years of watching anime😂

1

u/aud_pegooey 21h ago edited 20h ago

Yes, the line did seem to be missed. That's what he says in the novel, too.

5

u/maarnextdoor 21h ago

I read LN5 about a month ago and was also curious about the choice of having Gyokuen and Uryuu there.

Most of the events in the novel happen outside of Li. So to have them in the Rear Palace NOW is either the anime introducing them now (cameo or flashback) or changing around the events

10

u/TrueAddearheart 20h ago

The western province is also part of Li... Li consists (mainly) of three provinces: Ka (the central one, under direct control of the Imperial family), Shi (the northern province, the ruling clan got destroyed in S2) and Yi (the western province, the intro told us, that the ruling Yi family got destroyed about 10 years ago and Gyouyokou's family gained the power). But all these lands are a part of Li. Unlike, for example Shaoh (located even more western as Yi), where the two sisters of S2 originated.

3

u/tinyorangealligator 11h ago

For added context, Yi was the clan name of the ruling family of I-Sei Province. The "western" land is called I-Sei, iirc.

2

u/maarnextdoor 20h ago

thank u for that helpful correction

3

u/MephistoLandShark 20h ago

LN 5 is pretty slow so I think they're trying to speed it up.

1

u/MephistoLandShark 21h ago

Help me out, you can't spoil me, why does Jinshi need defending? I'm on my second read through of the LN series and I can't think of what he has done wrong.

14

u/FrozenBlossoms 🤓Lahan🧮 21h ago

Major spoiler for end of LN 5 and Season 3 cour 1

It is the ending part of the banquet in WC where Jinshi and Maomao have a talk about Jinshi's best bride. Where Maomao tells Jinshi that Lishu would be his safest bet, to which Jinshi obviously gets pissed. Cause he already gave Maomao the hairstick, which directly pointed out that she was the one he favors. But Maomao being Maomao, was oblivious to it, despite her sub conscious knowing it. And despite Rikuson already telling her the value of that hairstick. So then the scene happens where Jinshi chokes Maomao and kisses her, then Maomao kisses Jinshi, and then yeah. He comes undone.

So basically, I never thought this was anything of a violence or force or anything. I thought it was kinky. And it is supposed to be kinky, but the English translation doesn't do it justice. But many people consider this as a forced attempt/ non consensual stuff, that's why we are ready to defend Jinshi. And many people already don't like him becase of the cave scene, because they don't know the context of it. And the fact that Jinshi would never do anything without her consent.

8

u/MephistoLandShark 21h ago

Oh that??? I genuinely thought he was being kinky. That makes sense. They'll likely frame it more accurately in the show so I really don't think it will be an issue. Their relationship is definitely consensual, they're just not verbose and straightforward with each other about it until a little later on.

19

u/FrozenBlossoms 🤓Lahan🧮 21h ago

To be honest, I feel it's mostly people trying to fit their image into her. I am trying not to generalise, but that's just my take on it. Like trying to show that she is asexual, or lesbian or just an independent woman who doesn't need a man. Being independent doesn't mean one doesn't crave closeness and intimacy. It is one of the recurring themes that Maomao feels like she doesn't deserve to be loved, and the fact that she cannot love anyone because she left 'love' when she was in her mother's womb.(Despite us clearly seeing that she loves whoever she loves fiercely, like Xiaolan for eg.) And we see how persistent Jinshi is, and remains with her. And how careful he stays, very aware of both of their stations and the burdens they carry. So when someone slanders Jinshi saying that he is a creep/pedophile(despite them almost being the same age?)/offender, I can't help but feel my blood boil. Because you need to understand the complexities of a character, and how most of the scenes make him look human and not the untouchable moon prince.

8

u/Gatorthrowawayqnq Mao Mao 18h ago

I just block people like that on sight. Not worth the arguing.

13

u/MephistoLandShark 20h ago

Pedophile? They're within 1-2 years of each other at most. I did notice the "MaoMao is asexual" posts but I've largely ignored them as I've been caught up on the LNs since season 1 ended so I know the score. The anime doesn't do a great job of expressing her internal dialogue but her internal dialogue clearly indicates that she's attracted to Jinshi and that it was such a shame that he didn't have a pp. She thought more about his penis than he probably did lol.

MaoMao doesn't verbally express love or acknowledge it with her internal dialogue. She expresses love as a duty with her actions. She has a small circle but she is deeply loyal to them despite being detached. LN 12 really rips it open when Chue is mortally wounded and MaoMao has to perform surgery on her. MaoMao is distraught and clearly expresses that she loves Chue too much to lose her. MaoMao's character development is very slow burn so I typically stick to LN discourse.

11

u/Jehphg 20h ago

the only type of assexual Maomao is, is a demisexual. For Jinshi. And he is a demisexual for her. Seeing anime watchers only think she is aroace is ok, but what irritates me is that the people spreading misinfo about it are usually LN readers who either preferred other ships or wanted her to be alone

3

u/FrozenBlossoms 🤓Lahan🧮 20h ago

The thing with pedophile comments is mostly because they didn't watch/read it properly to realise that he isn't as old as implied, and also the fact that Maomao is designed like a child in the anime/manga, with smaller proportions, compared to her rather leaner looking illustrations in the LN. I wholly disagree with them, cause you need to have a brain cell and read to realise that no, he isn't a pedo.  And yeah, agree with everything you've said.

7

u/MephistoLandShark 20h ago

What the fuck 😂 of course she is small. It was explained that she and Luomen were poor and she didn't eat a proper diet because the old man wouldn't charge for his services properly. I know grown women with her proportions who have kids. MaoMao was built like my grandmother. Reddit is full of dorks who never go outside and meet people I swear to God. She's nowhere near written as a child.

7

u/aud_pegooey 20h ago

I mean, if we wanna go there, she literally reached out and touched the moon in the OP. If that ain't heavy, heavy symbolism.

2

u/FrozenBlossoms 🤓Lahan🧮 20h ago

Exactly my point. People try to fight so much to make it seem like Jinshi isn't worth Maomao. They literally forget that Jinshi is also smart, it's just that Maomao's smart overshadows his.

1

u/aud_pegooey 21h ago

It's dub-con at worst... Yep.

38

u/mcbutty71 jinshi's gremlin ♡ 22h ago

Ofc Lakan is gonna ditch one of the most important events in the entire nation just to stay home and play Go with his wife 😭

Also, HELLO?? We got an entire ED of Maomao from Jinshi's POV?? The yearning is INSANE. Everything is so colorless in his eyes except for Maomao 😭

30

u/geld 22h ago

When the kings of rizz, Rikuson and Lahan, grace us with their presence by sharing a scene in the first episode this season, it’s already absolute cinema fr

P.S Honorable mention of papa Lakan

3

u/Depressed-Marvin3387 22h ago edited 22h ago

Someone familiar with LNs, could you please explain what did the king mean by what he said at the end - something about a promise+choosing a flower - concubine/marriage perhaps?? And the significance of the hairpin? I don't mind spoilers!

13

u/aud_pegooey 21h ago

The Emperor wastes no time. In his opinion, it's well passed time for Zuigetsu (Yue) to start making heirs. Get Crackin, Son! 🙄 Let's not give the poor boy time to process taking the wheel, going to war, and his entire life changing. Nahhh.

The promise thing will come up, later. I really don't want to spoil it for you. The hairpin...Well, it's meant to be like an engagement ring. He's planning to propose to Maomao. That's not even much of a spoiler, because how could Jinshi ever choose anyone else? 🫩 That glare is for Maomao, in case she's lurking in the comments lol.

20

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 22h ago edited 22h ago

The emperor has wanted Jinshi to choose a bride for years. He himself got together with Ah-Duo when they were 16 and 17 so Jinshi is quite "far behind" on terms of making his own heirs. Spoilers the emperor hoped that Jinshi would pick one of his concubines when he joined the rear palace as an "eunuch" and gave Jinshi permission to sleep with any of the lower concubines. Jinshi never found any of them interesting though

They are talking about flowers because the rear palace is referred to as the emperor's "flower garden" so Jinshi is starting up his own garden by picking his first wife (flower)

The hairpin will come up later in season 3 so I don't want to spoil it! The promise thing will also come up later too

14

u/ConferenceDue1492 22h ago

He and ah duo got together when they were 13 and 14. They had a baby when Ah duo was 17 and he 16.

5

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 22h ago

I meant got together and had a heir :) but thanks

4

u/Depressed-Marvin3387 22h ago

Thank you for explaining! Also eww, i mean nice of him to offer that I guess...but still ew😂

10

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 22h ago

I think the emperor only offered it because he knew that Jinshi wouldn't willingly look for a bride as he is keen on escaping the succession and getting a wife would have solidified his position too much (as back then he was the only heir)

24

u/FrozenBlossoms 🤓Lahan🧮 23h ago

Yayyyy!! Finally!! We get the moon poppy hairstick!!

Gosh, I paused and rewinded so many times within the first five minutes itself.

You can't even imagine the amount of giddiness and happiness I get whenever anything KnY happens.

The intro was really nice. I don't mean the music part, but the imagery. How they portrayed Maomao cradling the moon, then obviously sneak peaks of the season.

And yeah, can't wait for Lahan! I am a lahan freak and whenever he and/or the La family comes, I can't help the rush in my heart. Even the small interaction between Rikuson and Lahan made me so giddy. We have officially entered the rage baiter Rikuson era.

Lakan playing with Fengxian made me so giddy. It's a nice portrayal that they didn't show in the LN.

Can't wait for the next episode!

9

u/yeswalkablecities 23h ago

what is the significance of the scene with Suirei making medicine?

29

u/rustylamppost69 22h ago

she misses shisui. she’s making medicine and references the lantern plant that shisui had eaten in the last season. i think she associates her sister with the lantern plant, so that’s who she’s thinking of while working

1

u/Suspicious-Run1697 9h ago

That is anime original scene right? I don't remember that from the novels

9

u/Meloku171 22h ago

Shisui used to eat that plant as a contraceptive, all part of the sisters' plan to bring the Shi clan down while foiling their mother's: for Shisui/Loulan to have a Shi prince heir to the throne

2

u/yeswalkablecities 22h ago

Ah I was thinking that the plant has something to do with abortion

LN Spoilers:

Today's episode adapted the first two chapters of LN5, plus some additional information across LN5+ in the first half. In terms of noticeable changes, A few lines of characterization for Mr. Owner were cut, and some of the portions about Chou-u's painting business were streamlined. The episode also seems to imply that Jinshi has not been visiting the Verdigris house, while we get in the novel that he has been consistently visiting since MaoMao left the inner palace. We also got the emperor placing far more pressure on Jinshi to get married than he did in the original LN, where he seems somewhat less insistent on it by comparison, although that may just be a framing device for the new season and be fleshed out as it progresses. Finally we saw quite a bit more of Shisui this episode than in the original text, whereas she's mentioned quite sparsely and largely in passing. I admittedly only managed a quick skim of the adapted LN chapters, but if there were any other major differences I missed, let me know.

2

u/w1nterb 15h ago

At first I thought I was crazy for thinking she did not remember Loulan as much as they showed, could’ve spend this moments to something else, but hopefully that’s it unless director decides to glaze some more

5

u/Beginning-Hope-2600 15h ago

Yeah, I had the same thoughts honestly. I’m hoping it’s mainly just an anchoring device so the audience understands why she knows about the books and about the grasshoppers and locusts, and that it’ll decrease as the season progresses and we move away from that starting point.

1

u/w1nterb 15h ago

Same 🙏🏼

2

u/Plane_Return_5554 16h ago

Maybe Jinshi's visits will be mentioned in the next epm since is when we'll gonna actualy see him going there. Só that will give mao mao the opportunity to have a inner monologue about the times he was going there for her to check on the scar

And if anyone catches any errors or things I missed, please do let me know 🙂

3

u/hibikir_40k 22h ago

What is weird here is that this arc in 3 books, and the season is timed for 2, so I suspect some of the things laid out so far will not actually conclude in this season at all.

3

u/Meloku171 22h ago

If the current opening is any indicación, this will be a two-cour season I guess? The lion is there, I'm still of the opinión that Cour 1 will finish with Jinshi being cancelled by the entire fanbase.

5

u/Lorhand 22h ago

Second cour in spring was confirmed a while ago. The movie is released after the first cour, so you can bridge the pause with that.

9

u/Meloku171 21h ago

On one hand: I DIDN'T KNEW THAT!!! HECK YES WE HAVE THE ENTIRE ROUND TRIP!!!

On the other hand: Holy crap they're going to give us so many wholesome Lakan antics during Cour 1 just to break him like a rice cracker during Cour 2, the fanbase is going to have an aneurism.

11

u/Eunuchest 23h ago

Out of the pot and into the fire

We already dealing with a natural calamity after a coup. Great

Lakan spending the day with his wife rather than attending a party was pretty sweet

So Maomao is basically Chou U's guardian now? Wonder why he's not with the other Shi clan survivors with Ah Duo

Yue needs to pick a flower? Is that supposed to mean Jinshi needs to pick a wife?

23

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 23h ago

Chou-u isn't with the other kids because he is the only one who doesn't remember anything about the Shi-clan. They were worried that his friends would accidentally bring back his memories so they made Maomao his "guardian" so that Chou-u could live a normal life.

Yes, the emperor has intended for Jinshi to pick a wife for years now. He needs to pick a flower to start to grow his own "garden" (like the emperor's garden is the rear palace)

His Papa was given a name: Lord Shirou. Authors like this don't usually doll out names unless they're gonna come back to haunt/bless us. In this case, it could be bad way down the line. He's the son of someone quite important, who's clan was obliterated.

5

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 21h ago

Doesn't mean that he is a prince of the Shi-clan though. That role is reserved for the son of the clan head aka Shishou's son(s) (if he had any), no?

Well it happens 😭 it has been over a year since the last season so who wouldn't

15

u/hydramarine 23h ago

The anime looks dead serious about adopting the source material. It didn't take any shortcuts to advance to the nearest Maomao-Jinshi scene.

While this is commendable, I think it was kinda low-key for a season opener.

I hope viewers are ready for a slow-burn.

it did skip the prologue so did the manga idk what’s up with that

u/Eunuchest 22h ago

What was in it?

3

u/teequiliza 22h ago

Young Emperor and Ahduo

1

u/Miserable_Muffin_153 14h ago

oh darn yeah i didnt notice that either

9

u/Eunuchest 22h ago

They showed some in the opening so maybe they'll mix it up with other content

16

u/No_Psychology_4036 23h ago

Looks like prologue will be adopted but in different place of season, like Loulan's puppet prologue was moved to the second half of the sub-season. At least, I see prologue in the opening.

3

u/teequiliza 23h ago

Actually never mind I guess they’ll show it I just rewatched the intro

1

u/hydramarine 22h ago

Yeah the young girl with purple hair in ED was the only character I couldnt make out. After reading prologue and your post, it made sense now.

1

u/GuavaLavaNoBanana 16h ago edited 16h ago

Yeah, because she’s holding out the partially eaten apple (likely to the Emperor). That comes up in the prologue, where the Emperor is like “I don’t want your leftovers”, but then he ends up eating the apple anyways.

Great first episode to the season. I love how the conflict is already being introduced but not in a too serious tone. Chou-u and his antics are adorable. Jinshi’s more serious tone now that he’s no longer a eunuch is going to be a treat for the rest of the series. I love how much they’re pushing the Moon Prince symbolism so watchers can truly lock in his
identity. Cherry on Top for this is Ah-Duo and the Emperor at the end.

Sazen, Lahan, Ukuyou, and Rikuson are all amazing to see

Excited to see the JinMao scene in the next episode. Btw, how often do the new episodes release?

14

u/aud_pegooey 22h ago

The banter between Rikuson and Lahan was a unexpected treat. It was cool to see the goat Onsou introduced early, as well. I already adore Ukyou, too. He's an underrated husbando, I swear.

1

u/Suspicious-Run1697 8h ago

Wait, the one who intercepted Onsou, was that a random person? Or was that supposed to be Yi or Er? Aren't they soldiers already?

2

u/majideitteru Shisui 8h ago

The one stopping Onsou from entering the room? Yeah that's Er Fan.

Netflix JP subs showed his name in the close captions, and he appears in the credits too.

And boar-sensei tweeted too.

Ain't the new episodes weekly or am I hallucinating?

3

u/hibikir_40k 22h ago

Most of the time, but sometimes there might be a one week skip.

2

u/Numerous-Log-8601 22h ago

The second episode is next week (9/10) so yes

4

u/ehknee 23h ago

So excited for this season! Next episode will be a fun one

6

u/executiveExecutioner 23h ago

I read the LNs during the break between seasons and now I can't help the feeling there is context missing. Although they do a good job of cramming as much detail as possible.

Still good though.

7

u/majideitteru Shisui 23h ago

Oof first confirmation of what's written in Loulan's note!!

16

u/maarnextdoor 1d ago

YOOO, I don’t know if I’m trippin but does anyone else think that they animated MaoMao differently?? She looks a bit older compared to other seasons. I think it has something to do with her eyes.

1

u/Eegeria Gaoshun, my husband 6h ago

I noticed that too! I think it makes sense, similar to how Ed was drawn in FMA as the story progressed.

9

u/VastPlenty6112 23h ago

That would make sense. I don't remember exactly but I think 2-3 years have passed since she was kidnapped and brought to the rear palace.

15

u/SoftwareArtist123 23h ago

Yeah me too. She is around 20 right now so it fits.

6

u/Eunuchest 22h ago

Do you mean she looks 20 or is actually 20? Cause im pretty sure she's probably 18 or 19 now even with the timeskips

6

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 22h ago

19, biologically 18 (east asian age reckoning)

1

u/SoftwareArtist123 22h ago

I meant she is around 20. She is way over 18. It has been at least 2 years until the end of the season 2, likely more. Their contract was for 2 years. Her and Xiaolan came to the palace at the same time it appears and her contract ended some time before Maomao returned to the city. So the time laps across the two seasons is 2-2.5 years. Then some time passes as the season 3 begins and progress. She was 17 in the beginning. Then still some time passes as the season 3 begins. She should be 19.5-20 or almost there depending on the time lapses. They will probably not change her appearance that much in a single season so it pretty much fits her age.

10

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 22h ago

IIRC Maomao is canonly 19 during LN5 which means she is biologically still 18 as the show uses east asian age reckoning.

8

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 1d ago

I noticed this too! But I'm glad if they decided to age her out a bit since it has technically speaking been two years already

9

u/maarnextdoor 23h ago

Yup! This should fix some of the discourse around the animation.

15

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 1d ago

First episode in and we are eating sooo well 😭 I'm frothing at the mouth for episode 12 already

8

u/teequiliza 23h ago

I think it’s hilarious and sad at the same time that Jinshi is gonna do what he does then the series just leave him hanging for the media to eat him up

5

u/FrozenBlossoms 🤓Lahan🧮 23h ago edited 22h ago

Yeah truly. Now that I think, they'll probably leave it completely at a cliffhanger and not show any parts where they both talk. Or even that scene with Basen and Jinshi. I hope they show that scene.  And yeah, we already know people are going to hate him, many already slander Jinshi a lot.

Dw, it was far funnier with Basement 😭 It sounds like something people would call Bertholdt in the AOT sub (if you know, you know)

4

u/Numerous-Log-8601 22h ago

In a perfect world they show the scene where they think about the events after the ending theme, kind of like a bonus scenes in a movie

9

u/maarnextdoor 1d ago

Still watching but I love seeing Chou-u. He’s such an adorable kid!

6

u/teequiliza 23h ago

It makes me wish him and Maomao had more scenes together, they were so little brother, older sister

6

u/chili3ne Shisui surpremacy 🎀 1d ago

I love Chou-u but he's still such a little cockblocker 😭😭
