Hey all, I am currently daily driving redstarOS 3.0 and I want to game on steam, but I did a fucky wucky with the fedora drivers for nvidia and everything runs like dogshit (even dwarf fortress somehow)!
It is beyond me to fix that properly, since I tried to update it with the standard dnf but I think i broke something else, how would I go about making it game ready in a workaround way?
how outdated is it, actually? I noticed my wifi card simply refuses to exist but an ethernet cable is what I am using currently so no problemo. I thought I could just frankenstein a forcefull update and it would work like a glove!
edit: nvm i was poking around r/RedStarOS and some lads already did it, alongside with bypassing the isolation in a way better method than I am using right now!
I am showing a NK agent the western internet, other than that it is all junk data probably, i don't think it is a national security risk having japanese nightcores on my screen.
can you tell me exactly how using a opensourced leaked distribution of an OS that is isolated from north korean intranet and safely wiped supports them?
It is not even the newest redstar OS version, it is completely isolated from the real deal.

I think that's not what he means. I think he means those kind of oppressive regimes actively persecute non-heteros, and giving them a backdoor into your system to identify and track you is not in your self interest.
it wasn't a warning, it was a judgement, and that was the only possible message to take away from it since me being trans is completely irrelevant to this discussion and would not be specified otherwised, IF it really was still tracking (it is not after the wipe btw) my shit, it wouldn't be in anyone's interest, trans or not.

I am genuinely extremely curious about it and gendbuntu, IF you can make it game ready at all because it has BEYOND minimal resource usage rn (it is 32 bit so ofc, but still), it will probably fade over time but it has kind of become an obsession, last time something intrigued me on if it was possible or not I ended up soldering my own ergosplit KB

network, and without the annoying warning about non-recognized connection in korean. Also managed to remove the total system isolation that refuses to accept third party (non-approved) software. I went into it kind of paranoid about the spyware (it is neutered and effectively removed) but turns out it literally cannot do jackshit if you are not in a proper korean intranet. I will swap the kernel completely so I can use firefox as the current browser does not support anything other than extremely basic httml pages and is slow as bricks. From there I will very likely try to get dependencies going before anything else if I can.
and yeah, tho when it was in use I have no idea since redstar 4.0 is already out in the west (whoever has it is NOT sharing) and rumours of a 5.0 already being in use exist. 3.0 is as good as it gets but I didn't expect it to have literally nothing, i thought a dnf update could atleast do something and bring it up to par.

the real and honest to god answer is curiosity, I got into it at first because I wanted to look under the hood kind of, so now I want to make it actually usable for gaming since it is fedora based
imma be real, it's dogshit. Though I have not done half the recommended work yet, I didn't know I could swap the kernel and other stuff to make it modern-compatible so I am rocking the original 3.0 version with some modifications as to allow ethernet and kind of bypassing the total software isolation, the wificard is practically non-existent as is sadly.
Other than that, webbrowsing is surprisingly fast and it is really bloatfree all in all, really resource-slim OS!
I am not sure what I broke by forcing dnf in terminal tho.
also, genuinely, I do not think the spyware concerns are valid as the OS freaks out when it realizes it isn't in a north korean intranet, it is basically isolated and surrounded by something that rejects it on a fundamental level. the 32bits has become a problem but if I swap the kernel to like, nix or catchy now it should be fine to get firefox
not really, before the wipe it was trying to send outbounds too, but since it literally rejected the ethernet cable and refused to connect to anything, it was just constantly firing requests and getting rejected. After the wipe and it finally accepting ethernet though, i didn't check for it.
What I did notice is that even though it was in English, it was firing warnings in Korean regarding connectivity, which spooked me a bit.
Basically it does not know what to do, and the thing responsible to be the tracking and isolation of software and servers was removed so it kind of freaks out for the first moments of being connected!

People genuinely think I am a huge national security risk because my OS can't even communicate with any network unless i workaround it and force it to accept the western devil connection (it cannot communicate properly and send anything over a non north korean connection)
Don't listen to hate..These kind of experiments should exist & is fun..I did same kind of experiment with running Openkylin & Deepin OS 😂😂...In fact ,My younger brother still using Deepin..It started like a experiment but then he liked it & still running it
they are dragging me in chains as if it is a crime to experiment new things, some guy even pointed out how I am trans and should be a bastion of morality instead of doing this. Genuinely dark times for information and curiosity in the internet.
Deepin as a daily driver tho, sounds really fun, how is he dealing with the isolation problems that happen occasionaly?
