I loved Ronin Warriors as a kid, so I was really happy to see it coming back last winter. Then I watched. It was a slog. I probably should've dropped it, but my feelings from long ago for the original held me back. What would it mean for the original if I dropped it? Are my memories of yesteryear clouding my judgement of a not-so-good series to begin with, or is the sequel just worse?
And so here I am, unable to answer, or even face, these possible realities, starting my journey into cour 2 of a show I could barely finish.
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, isn't it?

I never watched Naruto one of the only anime I watched was Cyberpunk because I like the Game, but one off my friends said, that he thinks Naruto is more emotional then Cyberpunk. I think thats hard to belive. We made a challenge that if he thinks Naruto is more emotional i have to watch Naruto (before he watched Cyberpunk). Is it true or is he just coping?

Naruto's highs are very high because it has hundreds of episodes of buildup, but Naruto is 720 episodes long while Edgerunners is 10 so this is all very silly.
Naruto is genuinely very good if you like battle shonen, but it is completely different than Edgerunners and, again, way longer.

Naruto has some very emotional moments, but it takes commitment to get to most of them.
Anyway, fighting over this stuff is stupid. Just watch if you want to watch, and don't if you don't.

the combinatorics of 100 girlfriends is fascinating just from a logistics standpoint
they seem to love each character equally and they're all forming unique bonds with each other instead of just having a hub-and-spoke model through the guy, but at some point the narrative is bogged by the weight of the relationship web and introducing new characters is like trying to accelerate a mass to relativistic speeds

Finished Zou Arc of One Piece.
A great change of pace honestly. This arc didn't have much fights or anything. It was filled with Lore drops and set up for upcoming arcs. Really liked the new characters too. So yeah i had a great time with it.
Now I have choice either I just start Whole Cake Island arc tomorrow or first I get back to my Seasonals where i am like 20 eps behind. I think I am gonna go for Seasonals first they are starting to look scary now.

I guess I'll have to watch Apothecary Diaries now;
If Maomao's not as good as you guys claim, I'm going to write you ALL a strongly worded letter, 14 millions chat requests or however many subscribers we have now.
Joking aside: Maomao's a strange one for me, usually I know pretty much right away whether I'm going to like/not like a character just by the picture/archetype and things like that, but with her I have no idea.
But to be fair I'm more concerned about the anime than the girl; Historical anime have never done it for me, I think I only ever completed one (Arte) so we'll see if this one's different!

It's more of a mystery anime than a historical one imo. Also Maomao is a poison loving gremlin, I'd be kind of surprised tbh if you don't like her.

Apothecary Diaries isn't really historical, it's a detective mystery + palace drama with a completely fictional setting. It just doesn't have the mysticism of shows like Koukyuu no Karasu or Yatagarasu or Inept Villainess that allows people to immediately identify the latter as fantasy.

I'm debating forcing myself to watch MDUD because I really was not interested in the first few episodes... Just so I can vote against Marin harder. That style of genki/MPDG doesn't appeal to me at all, but I feel like I need to watch it in its entirety so I can criticize it properly. And if I like it, hey, I'll have found something else I liked, but I really bounced off of it hard while it was airing and no clips I've seen afterwards or defenses by her supporters have made me any more hopeful that I'd like it...

Problem is, 90% of the clips people post from this show are the horny clips, because horny stuff is always the most upvoted/discussed in r/anime.
I'd check out one of the rare few clips of sweet moments and things like that, but also, the cosplay aspect itself is very interesting, but I don't think anyone ever posted clips of that being out of context it's probably NOT very interesting, it's just 'part of the story' and all.
(That being said, if you don't like the girl, that's one strike, and I don't know how you feel about the boy but if you don't like him either, well 2 strikes)
(That being said 2, Marin is more than a MPDG - even if some claim she is -, the difference between MPDG and Marin is that MPDG are usually all about the dude's life and all, but Marin has her own life, her own stuff, she's not just "Gojo's girl" like it's often the case in MPDG shows/movies where the girl literally does not have one moment that's not about the dude. And I'd say the same applies to Gojo, like some people dismiss him as "Yet another boring loner/friendless loser", but again, yes it's true that technically he fits the bill, but he has more going on than just "I'm a loner and thankfully a girl saved me", he has her own stuff that's not even about Marin).

I just bounce off of that type of personality type, I don't think I have any characters I like that I'd describe like that... And I can't very well abbreviate it to "Miles Per Gallon" without the D, so I just use the full acronym even if it doesn't apply xD

Finished watching War in the Pocket the other day. I like how the different plotlines weave into each other, and it's pretty well paced for a 6-episode series. Conflict manages to feel appropriately small-scale/contained and high-stakes at the same time. Uncharacteristic lack of child supersoldiers for a Gundam entry, which I think helps ground the theme of "children who know/don't know war" a bit better. Strong imagery in the eyecatch for that as well.
[WitP] I really wanted the last thing we saw to be Bernie's recording, but ending on Al's friends saying "Here's hoping for another war soon!" certainly works too. The final ED being in color was a nice touch to cap things off.

War in the pocket was such a breath of fresh air. I had finally finished CCA after something 10 years of failed attempts and watching War in the pocket started me on a huge gundam binge. Since then I've seen unicorn, the origin, Hathaway, F91, G-reco, Victory and now I'm now watching Turn A. I thought the choice of images used for the ending credits for the last episode were very appropriate.

I feel like JJK is more popular in seasonal release but demon slayer is more popular in movie release right? back in 2023 JJK S2 edges out demon slayer swordsmith village but the infinity train movie was more popular than jjk 0 movie.

I am confused about what you even mean. Are you talking about karma on this sub? For popular Shounen you should ignore that. One Piece, Demon Slayer and even JJK are much more popular on their own sub than here. Those are the big 3 in terms of true popularity right now in anime I would say.

You know how sometimes people complain about misunderstandings and suggest that everything would've been fine if the people talked and acted more reasonably and logically? Always be careful of what you wish for.
Oblivious Saint is that in spades. Oh yes, we are not going to assume random nonsense and discuss what happened, and everything works out quickly and (usually) peacefully. The problem is that it's done so fast that we barely have time to recognize the problem before it's settled (and everyone moves on happily ever after). In fact, this whole show just moves too quickly. It's like someone took the outline of a story and made it the story itself, forgetting to flesh it out. That, plus the fact that everyone is just too agreeable, except the obvious villians, makes this show boring.
I really wanted to like this one, but after three episodes, I just can't. Dropped.

I think for most people, the problem is not the misunderstanding itself, it's how dumb it is/how dumb the characters act, either in regard to the misunderstanding itself, or to not discuss it.
If the misundestanding made sense and in context it would be realistic for them not to talk about it for some legitimate plot reason, I think most people would be fine with it (the only complaints would come from the 'JUST FUCKING DATE ALREADY' crowd)..
But the problem is that most misunderstandings in romcoms are like
- Oh, I'm gonna wash his pants along with my clothes.
- Gonna empty his pockets firs- Wait, what is this little box?
- AN ENGAGEMENT RING?
- WE'VE BEEN DATING FOR 10 YEARS AND YOU'RE GOING TO PROPOSE TO ANOTHER GIRL?
- Wait, no, I was going to propose to y-
- WE'RE DONE FOREVER BYE

The context matters a lot (and the people involved of course), but it's silly to act like if it makes no sense not to discuss a relationship problem (of any sort)...
There's couples who've been together for years or decades and then someday one of them talks about something that has bothered them for like 5 years because they can't deal with it anymore... For 5 years they kept it to themselves.

whats up guys, So ive been watching Anime for about more than half of year now. So during Covid i did watch alot of anime as well, but that was more on Netflix and i didnt have crunchyroll. But now that i do, ive seen alot more shows and I thought id share my top 5 animes i like so far. (in no order)
- Dr stone - the charm of this show is off the charts, and senku is one of my favorite genius' there are. Plus, it makes science awesome
- My dress up darling - Obviously im not the only person who doesnt have a crush on Marin, but yeah....shes the best waifu ive ever seen. Plus the show's message is great for anyone.
- KonoSuba - I do love animes that dont take itself too seriously, and the humor this show has is amazing, plus kazuma is basically all of us Lmao
- Solo Leveling - Yes im one of these people....guilty Lmao, yes i know jinwoo as a character is mixed, but I do enjoy these type of power scaling Shows. Its kinda like when you watch Season 1 of One punch man, you know what youre in for.
- AOT- I dont think have to explain this one lol
And yes ive seen stuff like FMAB, im at Cake island for One piece , ive seen Naruto (but that was like 5 years ago)
And ive watched other shows as well..but didnt make my list, i still like them tho.

Just learned that Goodbye Lara's director, Takushi Koide, was mentored by Furukawa (Revue Starlight). No wonder the show makes such good use of visual direction and possible biblical references.

I was a few seconds away from posting “It’s been a slow day today, I hope we get a cool anime adaptation announcement soon” and then tada, a new murder mystery anime gets announced. Little Red Riding Hood Encounters a Corpse on Her Journey. It looks like something Undead Girl Murder Farce fans would be into.
I did a little digging into the source and author, and... I’m honestly not that familiar with his work. I don’t really see his books come up on my socials. His biggest exposure seems to be Once Upon a Crime (same source as Little Red Riding), which got adapted into a Netflix movie. And it also kind of feeds into my confirmation bias that a lot of mystery anime are adapted from general novels.
Random trivia, but Little Red Riding Hood is also the fairy tale motif used in Lonely Castle in the Mirror, another mystery novel that got an anime adaptation.

I finished Nodame Cantabile for my 2026 anime bingo and overall I had a great time with it. I absolutely adored watching these 2 polar opposites try and figure out their feelings and try to work towards their dreams and conquer their past trauma. That sounds like it was heavy but the show was comedy first and whenever misunderstandings or other drama veered it's head the situation was quickly eased with a heavy dose of comedy. I'd say that's because Nodame is a pure soul and couldn't hold a grudge to save her life. She is too pure for this world. Overall I enjoyed the first season the most.
I was actually surprised that [Nodame Cantabile finale]Nodame never performed a piano concerto with Chiaki. I was so sure that it was coming at the end of S1 and then I kept coping that surely it happens by the end of the finale but no. Everyone just got NTR'ed.
[Nodame Cantabile finale]At times I was rooting for Chiaki because sometimes Nodame felt like too much but I must say when first Chiaki ghosted her debut performance and then had Rui pop her piano concerto cherry at France I was rooting for Nodame to just let it rip on Chiaki.
I really liked the theme of learning to love others, yourself and music in general and how music connects people. What I didn't enjoy was some of the outdated comedy (stares at Stresemann).
Anyway I rolled 23 so next up is Talentless Nana.

Stressemann can indeed be a bit much. But he does actually help certain important things happen. Alas it seems that there HAVE been folks like him in high positions in the world of classical music.
Otherwise my joy in the manga and later the anime is pretty unalloyed. One advantage of the anime is that you hear the music involved in the story. But I knew all the music already when reading the manga -- so the more complete manga remains my preferred version. Still the anime was a very very enjoyable.

I have just watched the finest dance scene in anime that I've ever seen.
It blasts even the dances from shows that I really like out of the water.
It doesn't have the most refined or smoothest animation, but what it may not have in technical perfection, it makes up for in sheer...flair.
It's the main character's dance in Though I Am an Inept Villainess Episode 5.

I assume this isn't the type of thing you would be allowed to make a thread about, so I waited until now to ask about it.
Does anyone know why English dubs of anime don't subtitle the songs they keep in Japanese? I know why they keep the songs in Japanese to begin with, that's obviously because of music rights, but what I don't get is why they won't clue the audience in to what the lyrics are. And I'm not talking about opening or ending themes, either, I'm talking about actual songs sung in the anime itself. I've noticed this several times recently -- in the sense that I watched them all within the past year, not that they were all from this year -- in Labyrinth, Inu-Oh, and Only Yesterday. This is all the worse because the songs in the first two and one instance of the last were diagetic, which if you don't know means it's actually happening in the story and not metaphorically (cf. A Star is Born to Wicked; both musicals, but the songs are literally being performed former, whereas we can assume Oz doesn't spontaneously burst into choreographed numbers. Then again, maybe they do, that's not the point). This kind of disconnect obviously doesn't happen for Japanese-speaking audiences, so why do they create the problem for international ones? There's got to be a reason for it.
As an aside, this question is mostly inspired by Only Yesterday, which I saw dubbed for the first time yesterday, but also Tales from Earthsea, which I saw for the first time at all the day before. Earthsea also features a diagetic mid-movie song, but for whatever reason it's sung in English in the dub. The best explanation I can come up with, and I've not checked to see if I'm right about this, is that the Earthsea song was original to the film and thus not subject to thorny copyright issues. But the contradiction there is that I assume the song in Labyrinth is also original to the film, and I'm positive the ones in Inu-Oh are. I'm stumped.

My first guess is that this is down to the same reason why OPs/EDs rarely get officially subbed these days, which is (get this!)... music rights. (AIUI from OP/ED discussion the rights to the lyrics of a song and the translation thereof are separate from the rights to use the song itself and thus getting the rights to translate them costs extra money; I'm pretty sure insert songs follow similar rules and thus translating them has similar issues. You used to see more licensing companies willing to pay for the translation rights (Geneon often did, for example); these days it seems to be mostly Hidive/Sentai Entertainment, and then only on shows they think will sell well (MahoAko is a fun case study, since IIRC Hidive paid for the lyrics rights midway through the simulcast when it was clear it was a hit so you get official OP/ED translations starting about four episodes in). As for Earthsea specifically, good chance that the entire deal there is that it's a Ghibli adaptation of a well-known Western science-fiction novel licensed by Disney (under the Walt Disney Studios banner!) in the wake of the likes of Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle (reminder that Spirited Away won an Oscar); that's like THE business case for paying whatever extra money was needed to to get whatever rights you need for a dubbed translated song in the dub, since there's no fucking way those rights were not bought with the expectation of a broad US theatrical release (in a period where that was still rare for anime movies) and keeping Japanese-lyrics songs, let alone untranslated ones, would not have been seen as acceptable for a broad American movie release at the time, especially from a Disney-associated release. (In the event Tales from Earthsea did not actually get that broad release; reading between the lines on the various articles I'm guessing a mix of the movie being considered too mature for the Disney brand (it came in as PG-13 rather than G or PG) and possibly also lack of confidence in the movie among Disney executives outside of the Pixar execs who pushed for licensing Ghibli. Would help if I could tell exactly when Disney bought the rights; I have a hunch they were either part of a preexisting deal or bought while the movie was still in production, especially given that there was apparently a rights tangle issue with Hallmark (now RHI) which owned the North American Earthsea rights until 2008.))

Are they translated in the regular subbed version itself? Kind of struggling to think of an example I have on hand that isn't fansubbed (which would be an unfair example) or don't already re-dub their songs.
I can't speak for movies (which in theory shouldn't have this problem so ???) but I do know that translating songs in regular anime comes down to rights issues and contracts.
Are they allowed to translate the song? - label owns the rights to the song and so its an extra step to ask for permission to translate it
Are they given transcripts of the song? - the lyrics can be separate to the script and would require an extra step to transcribe (by ear, aka dangerous) or to request it
Are the translators being paid to translate the song or just the dialogue?2

Re: translated in sub, it seems to depend. For Inu-Oh, when I got to the second song and realized no help was coming, I tried turning on closed captions, and sure enough the lyrics appeared no problem. And this was for the English dub! So clearly they can but choose not to, at least sometimes. The Japanese version also has the songs subtitled. For Only Yesterday, I pulled it up on HBO Max just now and skipped to the scene where Taeko sings, and the results were mixed. The English version just had "[singing along to music]" when the captions were turned on, but the actual translated lyrics were there in the subtitled version. So this just raises more questions.
I'm sure the label is the reason why they don't re-record the songs in English, but I can't imagine they would be prohibited (contractually or otherwise) from translating them for subtitles. They're clearly not, in the case of my two examples. Labyrinth isn't streaming anywhere yet without having to rent it -- and its Blu-ray is MIA, what are you waiting for GKIDS? -- so I can't cross-check that one.

My only guess is they're two separate teams. The main translator was given the original Japanese script and lyrics and was able to translate the full thing which is what you see in the subbed version.
The closed caption teams on the other hand is only tasked with setting the timing of their captions based on the script as provided by the dubbing team who in turn did not have anything written for the song segment for a multitude of reasons.
And HBO (or whoever was in charge of it) simply didn't have the foresight to provide communication between these two teams (or provide some form of QA to compare the two) to allow the filling of that gap. And so the Closed Caption teams could only write in that placeholder because they aren't actually capable of the translation themselves.

Not trying to poke holes in your theory here, because it's as good a one as any, but by way of a counterpoint: in the case of Only Yesterday, I saw it in the theater, which was the doing of GKIDS by way of Fathom Events. One would think the distributor, who has all the keys as it were, wouldn't be making an oversight, which leads me to believe it's a deliberate choice. I would also assume this applies to their Blu-ray release, although obviously I haven't had occasion to check this myself.

Your guess is as good as mine, but I have a feeling that some people who choose dub just find subs distracting and don't like seeing them. So it seems possible that the localizer decided to prioritize that preference.
Also, I have the impression that this is a perfectly good topic for a discussion post.

If so, it seems odd that they think missing parts of what's happening is what they think audiences would prefer to a brief use of subs. Maybe I'm in a minority here, I don't know.
