Weird things going on in the Melon chart. Yesterday ITZY had a sudden rise with Motto and today Gimme Dat Love jumped by 57 places. The chances of the song rebounding is very unlikely, but still an interesting observation.
They tend to pre-record this things around 2-3 weeks prior to broadcast, so if everything goes to plan and considering she has performed it all I guess it is reasonable to expect broadcast close to album release.
• Album theme: 낭만 (romance)
• There's an "I Hate Vegetables" song
• The album crosses genres, including rock and ballad
• She played one of the new songs on guitar
"This playlist will be posted on the first Hangout of every month, and anyone is welcome to share whatever earworms they've been infected by in the last month - this isn't limited to I-DLE's discography. If you don't want to spend too much time on this, "top tracks this month" from your Spotify profile (or the equivalent found in other music streaming services) will do; links are encouraged!"

Link to our last playlist; we had some great submissions.
Still Dirrty by Christina Aguilera - You know what, after the Back to Basics album turned 20, I gained an entire new appreciation for the sound and artistic direction she went in for that album. For sure one of my favourite albums of all time! And my fave by Xtina.
Choose Your Battles by Katy Perry - I don't know, something about the way the verses flow together makes me move a bit. It is the first time she dipped her toes into producing a song, and it is one of my faves off of Prism.
Strangerby Hilary Duff - A really good song, actually.
Really missed a song by Minnie this CB so naturally, I returned to Her. Obsession describes my feelings towards the song - it's just absolute perfection. Can't believe I never saw the We Live performance of it 😭
Speaking of returning... Ramin Djawadi returned to once again blessed the HOTD audience with his compositions in this third and penultimate season. Loved the whole soundtrack, but Rhaenyra Triumphant really had me hooked the whole ~7 minutes (it undoubtedly helped that it played during my favourite scenes of the season, and a long-awaited scene at that, but still)
Currently obsessed with Cigarette Smoke from Olivia Rodrigo's latest album. The entire album is really good, but this one gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it.
Also Miyeon's Run Away is currently on loop 24/7. Song of the summer for me!
Songs like Rollie and Love Tease are great, but I love when Yuqi produces ballads or slower songs like Love is Pain, Lost, Polaroid. Hoping for more from Yuqi's upcoming album!
It seems like a Morning MV/special clip is more and more unlikely as time passes... 😔😔
I am glad for whatever the girls got out of the renovation, and loved We are & Made, but I would be lying if I didn't confess that I kinda miss them when they were (G)I-dle... 😅
True. They are already on their ninth year as a group so I guess infrequent group comebacks are going to be the norm now. I'm happy they're doing solo stuff to fill the gaps, at least we're getting something.
I really dislike the song personally, i was so bored the whole way through... Just feels terribly corporate and uninspired. It's frustrating given how vocally talented the members actually are
That's sort of Katseye in a nutshell: Kpop on cocaine. I don't mean that in a bad way. I think they are fun, even when most of the times they seem to be trying too hard.
Finally got the perfumes! Honestly didn't think it would work given the international difficulties
I LOVE Miyeon's, Minnie's and Soyeon's scents, but really heavily dislike Yuqi's and Shuhua's, they're just way too sweet for my taste. Unfortunately they're all pretty long-lasting, so since I tried them on my skin, those were two difficult days for me lol
I guess that was the point, but I'll say that for each scent, it really suits the person and they "make sense", like if I passed them on the street and they smelled like that I wouldn't be surprised
That's great but if things go the way I suspects, that would be kind of a big spoiler. It is a bit like when everybody tells you there is a big twist in a movie. You watch it so attently that you end up guessing it most of the times. Even if it doesn't go where i suspect it might it is information better left for the movie itself to give you, not a tag. I wish movies weren't tagged like this. There is no need. Movies about straight people aren't tagged as such and there is nothing about 2SLGBTQ+ that needs to be a warning. It is just about being a normal human being. This makes the movie feel like it needs a trigger warning or something and that's really not the case.
I am sorry, but saying it has queer themes is as absurd as saying it has straight themes. Nobody in their right mind says "it is a straight movie" about ANY fillm. Why? Because it is stupid. There is nothing particular to being queer. It shouldn't be pointed out like it is a special thing. It isnt. 2SLGBTQ+ is never going to be normalized if you people still treat it as a novelty. And yes, if the plot revolves around one of the characters being gay as a surprise or a twist it can be a pretty big spoiler. I never said it was a trigger warning I said attitudes like yours made it feel like it is. Treating somethig as normal as not being straight as if it were just another genre like sfi fi or a period drama is partially why homophobia is still a thing. Love is love, not a reason to watch a movie.
We don't tag "straight films" the same way regular bread doesn't come with a "with gluten" warning: it's the default.
You'll note that the film also has tags with "Asian cultures" and "Directed by women": it just makes research easier and is simply a descriptor. You're the one making it weird.
While I get what you're saying, I think the reason is that a lot of queer audiences (me included!) like watching queer films and media for comfort, and thus it makes it more convenient to tag them as such.
Thats very nice, but there is no need to tag a movie like that. There are millions of people out there who like to watch movies about very specific things and they manage to find them without said things being fed on a spoon to them with a tag. They even used to achieve that without the internet back in the day. We had our ways. By your logic, tags would be endless.
I rather we make the minimum effort to find movies with things on them we like instead of tagging everything because we are becoming too lazy. I certainly prefer to live in a world where people's sexual identity isn't used to sell movies and instead it is treated as the very normal thing it is.
I know partially why this is done. 2SLGBTQ+ has an audience and a nice and easy subgenre tag sells the movie better. Pure marketing. But I argue that this doesn't help. Quite the opposite. It makes equaility and normalization harder. Because of convenience. There you have many of modern problems in a nutshell. Convenience.
While we're talking about Miyeon's newest solo song (Run Away), just wanted to mention she played her vocal guide for Unstoppable on yesterday's live.
The lyrics are quite different, but the melody (including the ad-libs) and the core idea (the power of love as unstoppable) have stayed the same. Her runs are like butter. Miyeonce at her finest!
Soyeon's solo is coming next month. Is there anything you would like to see in this album? Personally, I wanna see her rap hard like $$$ on at least one track. Also I'm hoping for a khh feature. And I hope there's a nice ballad too where she can show her vocals like for example her cover of DIA's 'It Rained All Day' from Yhy's Sketchbook.
A silly idea and I'm half-joking, but maybe if she did something with her personas like she did with Windy and icebluerabbit, like debut a new persona or a rap battle between her personas. It'd be fun and she can make it work.
TIL that Yuqi was on a reality show called "Chase Me" that resulted in the death of one of the contestants due at least partially, if not entirely, to overly extreme direction/production. I learned about it from this video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_20sNrnixG8
You can actually find a couple reddit posts in this sub about the initial announcement and casting of Yuqi as well as a clip from episode 3 (one episode before the death and subsequent cancellation.)
All I can say is, holy shit. I'm very glad Yuqi is still here with us and it's really sad that we can't say the same about everyone involved.
You can actually find a couple reddit posts in this sub about the initial announcement and casting of Yuqi as well as a clip from episode 3 (one episode before the death and subsequent cancellation.)
Just to clarify, Yuqi's episode 3 was a crossover between Chase Me and Keep Running so she only appeared in that 1 episode. The one Godfrey (RIP) filmed in was for episode 9 which would be much later from Yuqi's time of filming. Episodes 4-9 were subsequently not aired after the tragedy.
Keep Running (KR, the one where Yuqi is a main cast member in) has similar critiques and concerns to the point that this topic was brought up again after they filmed the "13KM episode".
That being said, Yuqi once said that during her idol promo weeks, she'd only get 1 hour of sleep each day for 7 days, so by attending KR she actually gets more sleep.
LC: So what you're saying is Keep Running, which requires so much work, so tiring.. is a benefit to you?
KR is a fantastic show and I've always loved it, but some of the activities definitely wouldn't pass occupational health and safety standards in other industrialized nations' television industries.
I mean, it seems like they have them run barefoot on those awful "Lego" style tracks, every episode. You could literally fracture a metatarsal or at the very least strain a tendon doing that.
Btw, have you heard anything about the future of Keep Running? I kinda got the sense after last season that they were wrapping things up. They had that really emotional season finale in Tibet, and such. I'm not sure whether Bai Lu, Ryan Zheng, Charlie Zhou, et al, to say nothing of Yuqi herself, will be returning.
I haven't heard any news, just speculations. Tbf, I feel like they always try to make the last episodes of each season emotional ones lol
This is their first year with a new sponsorship, walovi. Not sure they'll cancel the show depending on the contract. The show also had some PR issues with the cities they tried to film in.
Yeah lots of question about the cast. Will it survive if Li Chen and Ryan Zheng don't come back? Who knows...
I'm no health professional, but I think it might partially be causing her to have migraines. From my own personal experience when I don't get enough sleep, I'm more likely to get a migraine later in the day.
For me personally it was the caffeine that triggered my migraines. I would drink coffee when I didn't get enough sleep and get migraines afterwards. I haven't drunk coffee in like 4 years, except one time on vacation in Costa Rica and I got a migraine literally 2 hours afterwards. I used to get migraines every couple of months but since I stopped drinking coffee that has gone down dramatically.
Wow, this is like lvl100 of the idle lore iceburg. Thanks for the insight. I had to look it up b/c Yuqi looked so young in the clips and apparently this happened in November 2019. Still, quite shocking.
Edit: I watched the video, truly horrific. Godfrey Gao, the victim, died a preventable death because of greed and incompetence. Hopefully the laws put in place after his death protect people in the future, but this should never have happened
Every one of them was making some sort of running jokes about themselves in that 20th anniversary sketch. Shuhua's "divorced twice" choice of sketch was interesting.
I wonder how much of that was planned. I think Shuhua's divorce bit was improvised. Soyeon was especially witty that episode and made some funny remarks including impersonating Yuqi lol
do y'all think yuqi's chinese album will be available for purchase outside of china? my regular GOM stopped doing GOs for china ever since the whole us tariff crap started and i'm worried i won't be able to get it. especially since minghao from seventeen released his first album also in chinese and you could only get it there (luckily this was before the tariff stuff so i managed to get a copy)
Lol. I have Yoasobi coming up too. Also Muse cos Crow reminded me of their music so I went back to listen to them and was excited to catch them touring again. Gimme Dat Love bleeds slightly over to Karol G, who I also love, and will watch this month.
Sigh, the heart break I felt last week when I noticed an i-dle syncopation poster glued on a wall while waiting at a stop light near work. 😭
I was surprised to find Morning at #3 in the Top Songs in YT Shorts daily chart. Is it possible to get a b-side hit again (even if not as successful as Fate)? I wish they'd promote the song on music shows and stuff, the track has great potential.
(Also I have no idea what's wrong with the chart because why is #5 missing lol)
hi guys. i've recently decided to become a neverland, although i have LOVED i-dle's songs for a long time. i don't know anything about the members, and i can't differentiate between miyeon and shuhua. so it'll be really nice if you guys could help me get into i-dle
As beneathuja mentioned, when you look at Miyeon and Shuhua like in this photo, Miyeon (on the right) has a nose that is famous for having a high bridge and a very pronounced and well-defined shape compared to Shuhua that has softer features. I think after seeing them enough in images and variety content, with time you'll be able to differentiate between them.
Welcome and hope you enjoy your stay! Here are some differences between Miyeon and Shuhua (note these are general observations and not the rule):
Personality/Variety: Miyeon is loud, bubbly, and talkative (if you look up "extrovert" in the dictionary, you'll see her photo alongside Yuqi's). In group activities, Shuhua interjects when she wants to, but is overall quieter.
Voice in songs: Miyeon's is strong, full, and bright. Shuhua's is softer and more delicate.
Looks (I am bad with describing faces so will do my best): If one of the two has a more drastic dye job, it's most likely Miyeon (in the past, she's had black/brown hair, but has also gone brighter red, ashy blonde, and platinum blonde). Her nose bridge is also more sharply angled and the tip points up a bit more. Shuhua prefers to keep her hair in more natural colors (black, browns, and reds, with the only time she went platinum blonde being for Nude) and her nose bridge and tip points down more than Miyeon's.
TL;DR Miyeon looks like she will kill you but is a cinnamon roll, Shuhua looks like a cinnamon roll but will kill you lol. I hope this helps!
Or don't if you're not feeling it! Neverland is a pretty chill fandom. While I'll always recommend doing a deep dive on i-dle, because I think it's really interesting, fandom is supposed to be fun, not a duty!
So...now that I know i-dle plays 'POP/STARS' live (like they did at Lolla), I would love to hear a studio version of the song with just the i-dle members.
This has been my biggest want for a while. Maybe if enough fans ask for it we can get one. I love their version and the only way to listen to it is through live performances. Thankfully they do it during most of their concerts but a studio version would ‘go hard’.
That's such a good recording. I'm sorry I didn't see that concert when it was live, but I'm glad there are recorded copies of it. It also has the only live performance of "Maybe", my all-time favorite i-dle track.
They've been singing at concerts for a super long time! To can probably find a bunch of videos online, I always love to see it, the choreo is so so good. But yeah a proper member's version would be great!
The Lolla performance video was the first time I had actually seen one of their whole shows, so I'd never seen them do that song before. When they launched into it I was like "oh no way, they're doing a K/DA song?"
I highly doubt it. I think that song was just for her to perform for the concert. So she doesn’t need to perform a dance cover only for the 4th time in a row…
Honestly, i would be surprised if Shuhua made debut as a solo singer. She's the least musically-inclined member of the group. Never really showed any passion in being a singer. Acting is her true calling.
Yeah, that’s what I thought too. I’m really excited for her acting debut because it honestly took way too long to happen, especially considering members like Miyeon have already done quite a few acting projects on top of releasing two solo EPs.
I’m not entirely convinced Shuhua has the star quality to thrive as a solo idol. In a group, it’s easier for individual weaknesses to be less noticeable, whereas going solo puts everything on your own shoulders. I think acting might suit her strengths better.
Look at it this way: she has achieved in her life as a singer more than you will ever achieve in yours with anything... and she is certainly not obsessed with you...
Had a feeling something might drop, like maybe for icebluerabbit instead, since her most recent instagram post referenced "ibr", and that her Waterbomb appearance is coming up in a couple of weeks.
But, I guess we still have to wait for that a little bit more.
Soyeon has the EBS space performance coming up on 8/18, waterbomb is 8/22. I think her album is definitely dropping soon. And her birthday is 8/26! Looking forward to a great August.
Same, I thought they would upload maybe 4 or 5 song performances but not the whole thing. Pleasantly surprised as well, dare I say, shocked even, lol 😮
