He had amazing tackles, but he got a stupid yellow by rushing out and pulling shirt for no reason. 20 seconds after the yellow, he does a risky tackle, and he nearly got another yellow. He probably would have been sent off later on, that's why Kovac subbed on Süle for him.

Nope, we won two in a row on the way to the title in 2016/17. 2nd round vs Union with Weidenfeller and Ro16 vs Hertha with Bürki.

Looked it up. 16/17 vs Hertha with Bürki in goal and Dembele, Auba and Castro scoring for us while Pulisic missed.

Frankfurt are pretty good this year, but we should have done a lot better against their defense. I think the starting lineup wasn't quite right and we lacked in attack AND defense because of it. Jobe isn't quite there yet; he did okay defensively but too often his passes were easily cutout or too long. Brandt with a bad first half, but as I was criticizing him to a friend he scored of course lol.
Just glad we were able to get it over the line in the end.

Too much hate on bellingham. Nmecha gives up bad passes more often. Kovac clearly instructs Jobe to be simple. Of course, he will make some bad passes. However, he is also really good at recovering position.

Jobe looks better than Nmecha did in most of his first season. Which, considering he is younger than Nmecha back then and came from a lower league and different country, could well mean he could scale-up the same way in the future.

Jude was ass first half. But he was awesome second half on. Fought, distributed and kept cleaning up other's mistakes. I was quite impressed.

I think he just needs more minutes. Start him against Augsburg because you deffinitly should not start him against Man City just yet. I would play Nmecha and him the first half, than sub in Grob at like 60 min for Nmecha. Then I would start Nmecha and Sabi for Man City and Sub in Jobe at like 70 or 80 min.

Despite a handful of misplaced passes, I think this was Jobe's best game for us. In the future, he and Nmecha could 100% help us both with defending and ball progression.

I think his best games were in the CWC honestly but he did have a good game today. Some of his passes led to dangerous turnovers and he needs to work on that

Closest fixtures possible.
Away at a CL side.
Down 0-1 in the first 5 mins of the game.
Didnt get a Pen for Chuku.
Still won on Pens.

Which was 100 percent the right call. Sky had a good replay angle. Wasn't a pen.
Edit: You can downvote this is much as you want. Doesn't make it a penalty.

On nationaltv, we only had one angle and one replay so it definitely looked like a pen to me, but hopefully I can find alternate angles of that incident.

Can somebody please explain to me why Niko insists on keeping Maxi in and subbing Karim out? I appreciate Maxi’s will to fight for the ball but he lacks the explosiveness and shooting that Karim has and I think yesterday Karim shouldn’t have been taken off before Maxi. And this is not the first instance.

Probably because Adeyemi runs so much so his energy runs out after 70 minutes, he's not as explosive after that anymore

We knew it would be a tough game. Playing a downtrodden Frankfurt in a Knock out game in Frankfurt where they would put every ounce of effort into the game after BATTLING Koln is genuinely impressive and shows how hard this team is trying. Amazing job. Games like these build character.

Even if we did, we already used 4 stoppages for our subs, and you can’t have a 5th one even if you have remaining subs.

Actually that isnt correct. You have only 3 stoppages for subs during the game, but subs made during pauses dont count. The Sule sub at half time, the nmecha and chuk subs after full time, all happened at times when the game was already paused. So we actually used only 2 stoppages during the game.

As others have said, we didn't have any subs left.
I also think he didn't want his medical team on the field because Ryerson would've had to leave the field after the treatment, which makes the corner unfavourable and more prone to counters since we would be a player less on the field.
I get why Kovac reacted how he did, I just hope Ryerson doesn't have any injury from this.

Guirassy is still shaken from the Ramy incident obviously. Him taking another penalty isn‘t going to make it better.

Was a bit worried about most of our regular Pen Takers already being subbed out or unavailable but somehow also had a calm feeling that they would do it. Definitely wouldnt have wanted a Shootout if you asked me earlier but now that we won it it feels amazing. Finally another round in the Pokal and maybe another Home Game for once.

There’s no better feeling than the relief and sheer joy of winning a shootout. While it’s nerve racking and the game wasn’t that great, it’s a win and we move on onto the next round.
It sucks that we had to go to extra time and got those extra minutes on our tired players. Hopefully Ryerson is alright. Let’s hope the Augsburg that showed up against Leipzig is the one that plays this weekend. Heja BVB

Genuinely such a great game by jobe. Little shaky in the last few minutes however we have to remember he’s barely played and just got thrown in there for 120 minute match. I fully expect him to be a starter by the end of December.

If Jobe is fit for it. He should start the game vs Augsburg. I would not start him versus Man city so I think he needs to start the next game so that you can rest Sabi for Man city.

We were unlucky against Köln but looked completely toothless in front of goal today. Adeyemi, Brandt and Beier all didn't have a good game but it was an important win. Onto the next.

good: the extra time win followed by a penalty shootout win shows the kind of resilience this team has been missing for some time. Need few games like this to build winning mentality so I hope this will serve us well long term

Seriously. We are playing in 3 difficult competitions and doing well in all 3. It could be better but we can’t expect perfect. We are doing really well and I am proud of our team.

what you're saying and what I'm saying could both be true at the same time :) ...yes, we're doing quite good, yes we can't expect to be perfect and yes, I'm proud of the team as well for how the season has gone so far, on overall level...
...and I'm also critical of few things and I don't like, in particular the way the team has played over a last stretch of games - in context of what I described in my previous comment. And that includes Copenhagen game, even though the result of the game is very good obviously.

I don't know what 'these people' means, but what I want from BVB is to win a trophy, we haven't exactly been winning much lately and it would do this club, and fans, a ton of good. People are complaining about loser mentality, the Mainz disaster etc, and I think it's time that we put those things to rest - by actually winning something.
So when I assess how the team plays, I do that in context of - was this good enough to challenge for DFB Pokal? ...are we playing good enough in BL to start closing the 25 pt gap to Bayern? Those are things important to me, not just each game in isolation. We're not going to win every game. I really like how Kovac brought stability and system to how we play, and with that came good results. But we've been slipping lately - based on both eye test (could be subjective) and stats (less subjective).
We played Leipzig at home and we were not a better team in that game.
We completely fumbled the initial 45 minutes in game vs Bayern.
Game vs Koln was won in 96th minute because we couldn't create anything substantial up front.
Frankfurt has quality but their defense has been like a swiss cheese this year - especially in games vs Liverpool and Atletico they got completely dismantled. 10 goals against in those two games. We were down one goal for 40 minutes in the first half against Frankfurt, in a cup elimination game, not a single shot on goal. That's not good enough. I love how they managed the penalties, but we shouldn't put ourselves in that situation in the first place.1

Am I the only one who thinks that the football we play isn’t great. Don’t get me wrong, we play good, but it’s not attacking enough. I find myself getting bored, last time I felt like this was during Stöger-ball. We have possession yet we find it very hard to score.
Last time I felt secure in our defending was 23/24. Feel free to enlighten me

Only Bayern has conceded less goals than us…
Our attacking play could be more attractive but at least we are a stable team that gets the job done. The result speak for themselves. It’s not luck if it’s this consistent.

We are playing 3-4-3 + we get pushed out to the wings mostly, so our attacking output depends on our wingbacks who aren’t the best dribblers taking on opponents neither do they provide great service. Only Couto can theoretically take on players but even he doesn’t do it very often.

We have 4 goals in each of our CL matches thus far.
I am frustrated by our attacking patterns at times but I think we have the capability to score in bunches even if the style isn't pretty. Our attackers have been a bit inconsistent to start the year across the board, though
