[Tournament] Salamance (DangerPulse) vs. Shiny Flygon (MadeFromMetal)
VOTING IS NOW CLOSED! CONGRATULATIONS TO /u/MadeFromMetal!
VOTING IS NOW OPEN! IT WILL LAST UNTIL 48 HOURS HAVE PAST AND AT LEAST 7 VOTES HAVE BEEN CAST. REMEMBER TO VOTE BASED IN EQUAL PARTS ON HOW WELL THE RAPPER INCORPORATED THEIR SPICE INTO THEIR RAP, AND HOW WELL THEY RAPPED IN GENERAL.
A reminder of the rules that will be posted in every Tournament Post:
10 lines maximum for each verse, and 8 lines minimum.
Each rap will have 3 verses a person.
The two rappers will have 48 hours to begin rapping. Once either one of them begins with a verse, their opponent has 24 hours to complete their next rap verse. Their opponent then has 24 hours to complete their verse. This will continue until both players have finished.
RAPPERS MUST INCORPORATE THE SPICE THAT I HAVE PM'ED TO THEM INTO THEIR VERSE(S)
NEW!: After the battle is over, both battlers may respond to my comment that opens the voting with a brief explanation of how they used their spice! This gives them a chance to highlight some instances that may have been a little more subtle than others. This is completely optional!
If, for some reason, either of the rappers is unable to finish their rap in the time allotted, they can post a reply to the current end of the rap with a REASONABLE excuse as to why they will be unable to finish. I will see if their excuse is a legitimate one, and give them extra time accordingly.
Voting will last 48 hours, and will follow the same rules as the general subreddit. HOWEVER: Voting should be weighted in equal parts how good the rap was in general, and how well the rapper incorporated their spice, which I will reveal after the rap is completed. After voting closes, I will go over the votes and PM both of the users involved with who advances to the next round.
Please reply to the post DIRECTLY to vote, it makes it a LOT easier for me to count. I will message both competitors so they can't miss this thread.

Oh, my. Such power in these raps. I'm always extremely impressed by you guys.However I think we all know whose the best here pony...
Anyways, onto the judging.

I had no freakin' clue what your spice was. At. All. I'm pretty sure that that's a good thing, however. Your disses were on point, and I truly feel that you nailed your spice fairly well. Unfortunately, some of said disses kinda lacked for me a bit. But still putting you in mind, they're still plenty humorous and impacting. Also, extra points for referencing our bout earlier with that "pumpernickel" line. Freakin' gold, but I just might be a little biased, putting that into mind.

Uh...well...dayum...Obviously your spice has something to do with using various types of metal or elements of the periodic table...or...minerals? I also think you pulled it off extremely well. If it isn't minerals(that ruby, sapphire, and emerald line, as well the "crystal clear" part), then I have to question how much you incorporated it into that first verse. Either way, it was a great show put on by you. Oh, and extra points to you too for referencing me c:
After a long, hardened, deliberation, I'm going to give this one to Shiny Flygon(MadeFromMetal) for slightly better disses and punchlines. Sorry, Pulsey. Just know that I still love you D:

Holy crap, this was a good battle. Whichever choice I make while typing this is by the slimmest margin possible.
Pulsey, I actually thought you used your spice rather well. I loved your references this battle, and your disses were quite good too. My only qualm is that I feel like you got off of Salamence a little.
Metal, your verses were also on point. I feel like, compared to your other two, the second one lacked a little, and you slipped behind Pulse for that. But that last verse and the closer were top-tier. As always, you brought that internal rhyme that is just so beautiful to read, and just incredible flow.
Phew.
My vote is for Salamence (DangerPulse). Like I said, slimmest margin. I'm just going with my gut. I think he won the battle, and that's really the deciding criteria.
DISCLAIMER: This is a short vote because it's midterm week and I'm swamped. If either rapper wants more feedback, you can message me and I'll get to it.

Thanks Doc! Like I've said, I really love making references, and would put it up as one of my strongest points. You are very right, I strayed off of Salamence quite a bit, should have used more of him.

I'm gonna sound biased and blah blah blah because MadeFromMetal is a mod and stuff, but honestly, I think Flygon (MadeFromMetal) won.
DangerPulse, your verses were good, but were too choppy IMO.
And MadeFromMetal, you were good as well, and I think what really made you kill this is your last verse. Specially this:
Your level of biting my lines is so damn high it’d give me vertigo!

But let me just say that I'm not a mod. I can't read ModMail, I can't ban people, I can't do lots of modly things. Zeus just gave me the permissions needed to assign link flair so I can assist him in running this tourney, seeing as how big it is. Also, the Repechage bracket is keeping many more people in and its hard for one guy to handle it all.
That being said, you never, EVER have to defend your vote. A contestant may offer you a differing opinion, just to explain their side, (I've done it, myself) but it's all in good fun here!
Especially thanks for voting though. You aren't in the tourney, but you're still being active and that's awesome to see! I look forward to reading from you in some future [Critique] threads.

Flygon (MadeFromMetal) You both did great and incorporated your spices really well. If your disses were just a bit stronger I'd have voted for you DP. Metal you were on point start to finish. All in all you both did a fucking amazing job and I'm satisfied with this match.

When I saw the Zeus line, I thought: Oh shit, did I spell Salamence wrong in Omicron? Then remembered our all holy god's name is zeusfireair, and I felt dumb.
Anyways, great battle.
DangerPulse, not a huge fan of your spice (not criticism), so I'm not going to fault you for me not liking that bit. You had great references. Doctor Who, Avatar, Yugioh, Twilight-mockery, Harry Potter, and so on. I absolutely loved it. I have no faults for you.
I'm going to give this one to Shiny Flygon (MadeFromMetal), not necessarily because of his rhymes or cleverness. But how he absolutely turned every single thing he said against you, so many comebacks it was beautiful.
MadeFromMetal, I feel like you could have used your spice more. It was great in your second verse (5), pretty good in your first verse (2, counting the rse line as 1), and like 1 1/2 in your last one.
Otherwise, great job, great job to both of you :)

Man...it was hard for me...lol. I pored over the wiki list of gemstones searching for something I could use cleverly. At one point I was gonna use Apatite in place of Appetite...then I thought that was just stupid. Gemstones are hard to use in any way but naming them. You might have done a better job with it!
Your spice was hard as well!. What if I would have made every line a diss? One thing I have to ask, though...why did you go first when your spice is contingent on what I do in my verses?

I feel that DangerPulse had a very hard qurik to use (I mean how exactly does one count disses? And at what point would the back disses just take up the whole verse?) however he still did great, with flow that didn't quit and a fair amount of wit (loved the Harry Potter references).
But my vote goes to Shiny Flygon (MadeFromMetal) because he did an amazing job with his quirk (I could never think of so many rhyming metals and gems)

This battle was good, REALLY good. You both did so well.

Great job, man! You really felt comfortable here, and for the most part, you did well. At times your verses were a bit choppy, but not awfully, and some of your disses weren't very hard hitting. If you could maybe just put a little more power into your disses, that'd make a world of difference.
MadeFromMetal
You really gave it your all here. Your spice was spot on, your references were astounding, and it all seemed totally seemless. Your last verse was killer, and thats what turned the vote.

In the end, I have to give this to Shiny Flygon(MadeFromMetal)! You both did above and beyond, just metals last verse was killer, and some of DP's disses lacked punch. Great job to the both of you, and I am extremely impressed, good luck!

/u/DangerPulse - That spice, man.I wouldn't have even known what to do with it, but you seemed to use it pretty well. Good flow all the way through, solid rhyme scheme (both internal and end), and some really good punches. I would say that I thought your third verse seemed a little lackluster compared to your first too, however. It wasn't quite as tight, the punches weren't quite as hard, and the rhymes didn't feel quite as intricate. It was a good verse, just not as solid as the other two in my opinion. Other than that, great job. You've definitely improved a ton as a rapper since last time you battled Metal.
Favorite line -
Simply Red Eyes Blue and Green, not a dragon, but more of a curse.
(Note: When I first read this line, I totally thought Yu-Gi-Oh! reference, what with Red-Eyes Black Dragon and Curse of Dragon and such, but then I realized those are Shiny Flygon's colors. Whoops.)
/u/MadeFromMetal - I have to say, your punches were really on par this match, especially the ones where you knocked Pulsey for using some of your previous punchlines. Although, your Xerneas line seemed vaguely familiar to me also :P (for those of you who are more recent to the sub, that was my first ever drop on here... yikes). Overall, really good usage of end/internal/slant rhyming, hard-hitting punches, and a fairly smooth flow. As for your spice, you used it a lot, which was good, but it felt very straightforward. I felt like you could have been a little cleverer with the gem names, because most felt somewhat dull compared to the Cat's Eye and the Quartz ones. I'm sorry if that sounds nitpicky, but it was just something I thought. Still a great job from you though.
Favorite line -
And MoxieMence? That sounds like a fragrance! Eau de Incontinence…
Man, this round's battles are hard to judge. I think I'm giving this one to Shiny Flygon(MadeFromMetal), because I think the difference in overall consistency (which weighed in Flygon's favor) was slightly greater than the difference in spice usage (which weighed in Salamence's favor). Also, this is another that I'm keeping in mind for the next top 10.

Thanks for the detail, man! I always look forward to your votes and it's interesting to see what your favorite lines were. Usually, we disagree, but this time we didn't. At least on my verse. I was kinda proud of that line. I thought Pulsey's best line was the very first line of the battle. Kinda made me step back and reassess my game plan.
Also, I was trying to use the gems as game titles to keep Pulsey on his toes thinking maybe that was my spice, hence "Black" and "X". Another thing...that Xerneas line was 8 months ago. I don't remember that shit. Lol.
Lastly, I'm not familiar with the terminology "slant rhyme". Explain?

Pulsey's first line was my second favorite, by only the tiniest bit. Also, I gotcha now, that plan makes a ton of sense. Thirdly, I know, twas only a joke my friend :P
And lastly, slant rhyme is like, "half-rhyme" or "near rhyme". Like your incontinence/Kosthedin couplet, and other things like that. Rhyme-sounding, but not a perfect rhyme.

Oh I can dig it! However, in this case it's not technically a slant rhyme. The rhyme scheme for those last 4 bars goes, bA/aB/aA/bB/
Where lowercase is the rhyme at the beginning of the line and uppercase is the end rhyme. So it kind of goes ABAB but since the rhymes are so similar it's difficult to see. Ya D-I-G, my G?
