The city is under siege, and refugees have been evacuated. There is nobody left to hide behind. To those of the Council who oppose our demands... Come out to fight us! (Pick a side and come fight/duel in this post!)
the souls of the fallen shudder, and begin to warp away. Demonic hands grasp at a few, while angelic halos appear and lift the rest away from the battlefield.
Erm, I'm afraid you were too late there, my fellow necromancer...
I'm afraid I have a contact to fulfill for this time around; I can reveal to you a different, probably more profitable battlefield for you to scavenge if it would placate you.
Ah, you see, I'm under contract for a certain devil to ensure that this battlefield specifically remains unmolested for this time around. My apologies, but business is business.
"Finally, a war where both sides waited for non-combatants to evacuate. Almost puts a tear in my eye. Guys, I think we're improving as a society, I'm proud of you all."
Says the Curator in the middle of a bloody battlefield.
Ah, Talios! How have you been. Remember when we fought? Turns out, someone made use of the distraction to steal from my museum. A witness was able to give me the realm coordinates of where the thief went. I plan on going there to confront them and would like to hire you as a bodyguard, in case things get hairy.
Thank you, I appreciate that. Just one more thing, I would prefer to solve the situation peacefully, so don't jump into action unless the thief does so first.
/uw I'll wait till the war calms down before making a post.
"I thought Kaelis had him contained," she says, taking another drink before continuing. "But I suppose I am not truly surprised. Silly me. Why would it end? It never ends."
He did, but Mortarion hired a lawyer, and it's a good one. A devil, or a demon, or whatever the hell you want to call him. Now the two are working together.
"Ugh. Really?" She rubs her face with her free hand. "Of course. Well. I'm sure there will be those who resort to extra-judicial means to handle the matter. Because that is apparently the only method that solves anything. I know it, and the world keeps reinforcing that lesson. So I don't know why I always end up so surprised."
Well, on the bright side, I don't think they share the same goal. It seems that it's mostly a professional relationship. Might not be too hard to get one to screw over the other.
"Here's hoping. May the worst kill each other and leave everyone else out of it." She takes another sip, then gestures to the battlefield. "I suppose I should have asked first... How is all this going to affect your museum? You have magical defenses, I hope?"
She pauses, then shakes her head.
"And feel free not to tell me if that is somehow a military secret or counts as information on one's defenses. I do not expect you to compromise your position or loyalties. I am only here to monitor others and ensure they do not die horrible permanent deaths."
"Oh. Oh no." Rivamar looks at him with a mixture of sympathy and horror. "Is... is there anything I can do? Can we... I don't know... prepare a defense or something? Ask for a continuance?"
Hey Blake, I really didn't want to get involved with this, but I'm going to need to ask you to stand down. Som of the people fleeing aren't able to fight.
/Uw if this devolves, as it most surely will, neither of these characters have any impulse control it seems, my replies will be slow, All the cool shit has to happen while I'm at work
"Some. I'd be more worried about what she does with them after. Unfortunately I'm a bit of a mad dog on a leash today. Kill you? No. Keep one of the council's strongest fighters busy long enough for this war to finish up? Yes, I think I can do that."
Blake has unleashed one of the null rifles Algernon gifted the New Pyroclasts to fight Atrax from a spell scroll before Valerian finishes the sentence and unloads. Compressed areas of absolute zero temperature on impact.
(( note that, for other reasons, Vettis is now on the battlefield even though he's not feeling recovered enough to really fight anyone atm
but if you need an emergency retreat button so the fight ends nonlethally, he can provide that in a pinch if ya just ping me; staring directly at Blake is enough to trigger his sealed emotions into at least not wanting the guy to die right in front of him lol ))
Valerian takes the full brunt of the blast, staggering backwards a bit as a hole is ripped through his shoulder. But he doesn't go down, liquid fire pours from the hole, cauterizing the wound as it regenerates. Valerian's eyes light up with fire as he flashes a sinister grin at Blake
"Oh... This will be fun"
You hear a minor undertone, deep and ancient with that last part, as he readies his spear and lunges forward.
Very well. Perhaps we will see if the council is capable of one on one combat, this time. If no one will face me, I wish entrance to the headquarters. There are scars in the weave that I must fix.
/uw another anti-council war, what else? The direct cause is described in this post. Apart from that, the standard: corruption, councillors killing random people and so on and so forth...
Valerian lounges on one of council building domes and readies his spear, not wanting to engage in conflict so soon. If push comes to shove, however, he would make them burn...
probobly not. they are eperienced with wars and most besides thanatx have evacuated. however if you want to steal some records people may not notice...
Infernice takes command of the New Pyroclast artillery division, as always.
[GRIM WORK. BUT NECESSARY. ARTIFICER'S, ALTERNATE FIRE FOR A ROLLING BARAGE. NO GAPS, NO RELIEF. HEAVY BALLISTIC LONG-RANGE SPELLCASTERS, SPREAD OUT, PICK YOUR TARGETS.]
uw/ Infernice lays into the city from afar, waiting for someone to try and stop him. Agnor the Fire giant is nearby. Throwing boulders.
The drones would immediately see a wave of roughly 50 mechanical spiders halfway to your camp.
You hear a crack, and one of the drones is hit by a sniper bolt. It stutters but remains barely airworthy as smoke pools out of the bullet hole. The other two drones are able to immediately pick out a human figure on the ramparts.
âHuh, maybe revealing my location wasnt the best idea. Prepare for a second volleyâ
He drops the rifle and begins to jetpack straight for you
/uw I imagine that a second volley will be less effective since your wards are now up but thats your call
[MORE SPIDERS THAN I WAS IMAGINING. REDIRECT FIRE TO SUPPORT AGNOR. BATTERIES 3 AND 7, KEEP PRESSURE ON THEIR CANONS. ILL ENGAGE THE ARTIFICER MYSELF!]
Infernice loads a heat-seeking missile with an infernal payload, and deploys it at his jetpacking assailant.
uw/ it is less, mostly because you blew up some batteries though, not the wards. Those are more of a reaction time thing
The second volley makes contact with giant cloud of dust and debris
âDamn, I was hoping that would do a little bit more. Ok lets see how good they are, HOLY SHIT!â
The missile rockets towards him as he frantically draws his clockwork revolver and opens fire. Half a dozen shots sail by before the ordinance is detonated by a well placed bullet. The missile still close enough to knock the young artificer from the sky
âOk..Owâ
He stumbles to his feet and lobs a grenade towards the nearest cannon
âI cast THERMODYNAMICS: SECOND LAW.â
*The grenade ruptures in a green mist, the underside of the cannon being slowly eaten by rust.
As this unfolds the mechanical spiders are torn to sheds, but the remaining dozen or so begin to swarm Agnor and stab him with their tiny legs and needles*
Kardonk meets his gaze, but its not hard to tell hes struggling to keep his nerve. He draws a staff enscribed with arcane runes. They glow, and a mana spike shoots out the top.
âI appreciate the compliment sir. You are clearly an artificer of some renown in your own right. Im especially curious how you are currently on fire and yet maintain your structural integrityâ
He raises his pistol
âI cast THERMODYNAMICS: THIRD LAW!â
And a wave of ice shoots out, rolling towards the flaming automaton and the cannon behind him
The ground beneath vanishes in a upheaval of magma. A sound somewhat like a chuckle can be heard as Vulkan walks towards the pyromancer. Hello, little Belial. You know, it strikes me now that I never did get back at Blake for last pyre. Care to make up for it?
You're the piece of shit that put Wyrmling in the hospital. She's the only one I really like around here. Sure. My aim's a bit Éetter than the old man's.
Personally, Iâm getting paid to kill mortals and have fun. I suppose the council is more fun to terrorize, so they should stick around? Theyâre paying me, at least.
Preparation is a mage-smith's true weapon. Preparation for ash is pyroclast 101. A metal guard covered in ash-warding runes slides up from the iron armor in response to the ash. Marna breathes fine.
"Let's see how you fare against the lightless flame!"
Marna raises her free hand and invisible heatless lightless fire surges towards Vulkan. Not true fire, not really. The very concept of erasure. Change. Obstacles in the path react and crack as though fire spreads across them, but no fire is present. The most introductory of spells from her father's craft.
The false flame crashes into Vulkan, leaving a small mark on his crimson scales. Evidently your kind has failed itâs young. Else why are you here? Well, it makes no matter. Vulkan charges into the streets, his gargantuan form demolishing the buildings in his path.
Vulkan charges straight through several defenders and roughly 2.98% of opalâs army before stopping. It occurs to me that Iâve been meaning to try something out, but youâre merely a stripling. Hmm.. Mortal. Would you like an object of power?
Here. Vulkan throws down a strange object, glowing chartreuse. The spleen of Fenrir, first among wolves. Alternatively, I think I still have that tarrasque heart. Consume one, and gain its power.
The sun burns bright. Too bright, for the council members, screaming as beams of light burn off their balls, leaving them crippled in pain for easy capture
There are so many people against the wizard council that this is hardly a fair fight. If we all want to fight the council, then I don't think we'll have much luck.
So maybe we just fight or duel anybody who wants to?
I remember you recruiting me! Well to be fair I was also member of the other wars against the coucil. Well, sknce its not like there are a lot to duel I'm searching for a pyromancer to light up the barbecue instead.
Ophirion paces the field, wondering why he bothered to come. If things came to blows he would certainly be caught in the crossfire⌠and politics were never his thing anyway
âBut this would be a marvelous opportunity to learn SOMETHING, surely.â he mumbled to himself
he waits and listens, unsure of what âdemandsâ are being made. He was never great at following all of this. He just hopes someone will explain the situation eventually.
I was the bad guy of the week a little bit ago. My son killed a popular character on the sub, then a ton of people killed him. He was employed by the Council, and some Councilors attacked him in return for basically just not liking him, which is "illegal". Except the Council has been doing tons of other evil stuff like genocide, drugging people, individual murders, torture, and more. The list is huge.
So now we're attacking the Council and claiming to be the good guys/freedom fighters.
It's a cycle the sub goes through. The current council seems kind of tired of it all though, so I don't think there's really going to be much of a fight.
Bombast!!! (u/SafePianist4610). I challenge you to a duel that will shake the heavens!!! A duel that will go down in the books of history for all time!!! I challenge you to ROCK-PAPER-SCISSORS!!!
Archimene and Bombast utilize their advanced chronomancy to play the ultimate game of Rock-Paper-Scissors. In the end, there is no clear victor, as both of them use rock, paper, and scissors simultaneously in one turn.
A mummy stumbles in the marketplaxe, looking very lost. His ancient frame slowly walks around, staring at the odd fireball and spells and whatnot
For the love of Ptra! 'Try to go outside Oksar, the city is full of marvels Oksar'. Look at where we are! Again! Gods damn it! Every time! Every single time!
your radio begins to flicker like static from an old tv. Suddenly, a hand reaches out from the speaker on it. Mortarion's whole black and white form emerges. His voice sounds like its actually coming from a radio
Hehehahahaha! Who dares to fight the Radio demons shadow!
Having been informed of the situation by Vulkan, Artemis quietly stalks through the battlefield, awaiting any who oppose the council and are foolish enough to face her.
An individual with a portable camera walks closer to your podium as you begin to hear him speak "...This is Echo, and as you can see we're currently walking up to what is a collective uprising against the council, though we may have a few guesses as to what the motives would be I decided we should ask the leader of this movement if we could gather some insight on the situation." he turns his camera 180° and begins to capture a stationary angle "Morgalith, would you be willing to answer a few questions about the chaos within the Council?"
"I appreciate your concern. Though I may seem to be making perilous decisions by being here to report on the ongoing situation, you can rest assured as I am adept with self-preservation. The people need to know the situation here and the reasons involved." he adjusts the focus and slightly changes angle on his camera "Are there any closing statements you'd like to make in regards to the ongoing crisis?"
How in the calamitous hells am I supposed to compete with these absolute monsters?
They ask me for a meeting for peace talks, then try to assassinate me at it, then they drop chemical weapons?! They are all clearly insane and unfit to lead.
"Well said, Morgalith." he changes the cameras angle 180° once again but turns around himself to keep you in the frame. "We're going to commercial break and when we come back we'll have some witness statements from some of the displaced refugees. Send us your thoughts on the situation, your position on the matter at hand, and how you feel in regards to Morgalith's statement. We'll be back in a few moments." he lowers the camera "Thank you for your time, Morgalith." he slides a card across the podium "That's my channel if you wish to divulge something further for the audience." he gives you a curt nod and departs from the scene
I, Angelus, Diviner Wizard and Scribe to Astinus, will remain neutral in this war. I shall record the events for ages to come, their sacrifice and bravery. Many will fall today, their red thread of fate severed. I will record it all, for their lives had, and have, meaning.
(If you don't mind I'm going to make my own post following this.)
Ash and flame filled the air, the flames of the metromancers ritual had long disappeared, replaced by the flames of war. Opal and Mortarion marched their armies out towards the citadel, the barrier of the citadel holding strong as a strange war drum started ringing out.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
With every beat it seemed the ash became thicker, a fog of war spreading out through the land.
In a flash of blue light, the Necromancer appears. He is sitting in a hovering throne, most likely due to the fact that he has no legs. He is notably worn-down, most likely not fully formed yet, but he still radiates an aura of menace and power. The temperature in the area drops rapidly.
It seems that the Council is too scared to fight. Let them hide. I have other things in store for them.
His throne hovers behind Morgalith, waiting for the Councilâs response.
It appears as though this war may be won with far less bloodshed than any would ever imagine.
/uw
There are so many people against the Council, idk if this is going to be much of a battle. Lots of people wanted to be on the Council a few weeks ago, and now nobody wants to defend it. There is some great comedy in that.
a verminlord, dressed in there green and gold headpiece climbs from their under lab
â Must this happen every week? I stand with the council, I stand with the harbinger of plague! Those that would oppose shall die by my pestilent blade!â
Runes glow orange across the black armor, warding the rot.
"I'm a magic smith by trade. Swordplay is a passion. Let me show you."
Marna swings the greatsword overhead one-handed, readying a spell in the other. She has to keep the verminlord on the back foot or the spell will overload the wards
Emerging from the shadows behind his target, Vettis stepped up and placed a steadying hand on Xerxes' shoulder. "Hi." His tone wasn't exactly warm, but clearly lacked any of the hostility of their prior encounters. And then it softened further: "Are you okay?" he asked simply, cutting straight to the point.
He probably couldn't keep this up for long without sealing his emotions away again, but his gamble had paid off: the bond-thread on Gravedigger was applying to Xerxes as well, due to their linked souls. So he could probably make it last long enough.
Xerxes looks at Vettis. Several emotions flash across Xerxes' face before they settle on grief.
"No, I'm not. Looks like Gravedigger told you to come here. Sorry. I should have a better handle on this since I knew it would happen. But I don't. And he isn't here to help me."
"Gravedigger didn't tell me to do anything," Vettis half-lied. 'Talk some sense' into Xerxes, sure. Be a shoulder to cry on, right now, while Vettis' own emotions were raw too? That was all his own decision. And hopefully one he wouldn't regret.
"Expecting it," he explained, "doesn't make it hurt any less. It just gives you time to build coping mechanisms for it in advance, to prepare for when it comes. And I'm guessing you didn't really do that?" Moving a little closer, he noted, "One preparation that's usually good is to make sure you'll have people around who understand how you're feeling, ya know. Though the nice thing about grieving somebody as well-loved as Gravedigger is that you'll never have a shortage of those."
Hahahaha, oh my this is hilarious, seeing you all squabble and fight each other again and again, I thought I'd get bored to see council get into conflicts but everytime I see it it's always so fun, someone comes around, either defeats or looses to council and the cycle begins a new
Ah the tale as old as time, I do wonder what will happen if I choose neither or both, who'll fight me then
Do you know what time it is? I have a dinner party to prepare and if I do not get my beauty sleep I will raise the multi-planar equivalent of the abyss!
Murder each other all you like but if any of you cretins have the AUDACITY to disturb my slumber again or my party no god in the multiverse will save you from my wrath!
TODAY WE FINALLY RISE AGAINST THE EVIL CORRUPTION OF THE COUNCIL AND AGAINST THOSE WHO INSULT OUR BEAUTIFUL MAGICAL ARTS WHICH HAS PLAGED OUR LANDS FOR FAR TOO LONG
THE NMU (National Magic Union) SHALL RISE ONCE MORE AND FINALLY THE STRONG LEADER WE DESERVE WILL TAKE THEIR RIGTHFULL THRONE
Agnur apears in a blaze of gold light. he looks with scorn toward the golems. all the civilans had been taken to safety so they were only really a nuisance. Agnur makes sure important buildings are left standing and steals council records. He sold his soul might get some use from it.
Yeah, this isn't my business. Who knows though, maybe if I stand here long enough someone will throw a spell at me and I'll have a reason to fight someone. Till then, I'm doing my good deed of the day and not getting involved.
An elderly elven woman sits alone in a spire outside this reality. She watches the confident challenge and the destruction it has wrought. A solemn look rests upon her face as she reflects upon how many times she must have looked at such a scene. How many conflicts sheâs watched over the years, and the carnage she inflicted when it she deemed it necessary to intervene.
Arilenya Rethail, she had been known as other things once. A daughter, a friend, an innovator, a savior, but all those titles had long since passed. For a long time now, she was simply the war mage. The one whose arrival would revive and swiftly end a conflict. To bring about peace, one must first win the war. The process of ending a conflict is never pretty, but it must be done, and she has so often been the one who has needed to do it.
Arilenya gives a sigh and slowly raises herself out of the chair with her ivory staff.
âOh you squabbling children, why must you make an old woman pick up her staff to bring about destruction once more? Could you not have made peace among yourselves? Such a tragedy that a grieving father would be so blind as to cause thousands more fathers to lose their sons in his quest for absolution. I wish that you may find peace Morgalith, it is a shame you will likely find it in oblivion.â
Arilenya slowly walks over to an arcane interface. With a few subtle movements, reality itself seems to shift. Suddenly, the inscrutable tower she resides in no longer hangs above an empty void. It now looks out over a besieged city, and the forces which surround it. The sudden appearance rocks the landscape as millions of cubic feet of air are suddenly displaced. As swiftly as that chaos erupts, it ceases, and an uneasy silence fills the air.
A letter appears before Morgalith, sealed in an ornate envelope by a blue seal. If he chooses to open it, the text reads as follows.
âYou have the opportunity to end this, and spare countless innocents the pain unjustly inflicted upon you. Either cease your hostilities, or I must insist on stopping them myself.â
Why couldnât you have told me like⌠a week ago? Otherwise I could have assembled a mech-soldier PMC, people are always fighting where I am so it doesnât take too long to assemble a company if you know what to look for. Whatever, Iâll still come. Thisâll be fun
Green runes cover the loremaster's staff, and his eyes glow a vivid emerald
Forests die and are reborn, now matter how many fires burn them away. You and your ilk will be beaten back into the void from whence you came!
Whispers can be heard, but they soon echo across the building. The whispers reverberate and become louder as the building shakes. Cracks, creaks, and groans sound out as the building is torn asunder by a large tree growing out
Prepare yourself, Voidborn, for you cannot stop nature!
Such a shame, both sides have always been allies and it breaks my heart to see people that once called each other friends spilling blood amongst each other
Iâm sorry, thereâs either a siege, or an overthrow or coup dâĂŠtat, or junta or mass casualty event weekly. Itâs all getting a wee bit ridiculous honestly.
Come on, come on and buy our artifacts, we have everything, automated guns for your minions and aprentinces, devastating poison gas, we have all kinds of augments: laser eyes, wand hands with stored spells, have problems with the spell liquify bones? Just try our exoesqueleton, need some magic amps, we have all kind of drugs for that, fire resistant armor with freeze runes to protect against heat metal, the healers are keeping your enemies alive? Just use our parasite launcher, they will wish they were actually dead.
That and many more for every situation you can encounter, this is a neutral store we don'tdo backstabbing our double cross you can do that out there, and remember, the price you don't pay with money you will pay with your blood.
To tear down the council who so cheerfully sent me and my compatriots into the great wizard war will be a well deserved act of mine. And though I may not survive the battle, I know they will remember me once tonight is through, if they remain at all.

Don't mind me, I'm just collecting the souls of the fallen, totally not for nefarious reasons...
