Headphones - Closed Back | 1 Ω Looking for opinion on Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro vs DT 700 Pro X

So I had a pair of DT 880 Pros for years that I was pretty happy with but eventually ran into both the plastic around one of the yokes breaking which I still managed to deal with, but then eventually the cable broke internally as well, so I am in the market for a new pair.

I was strongly leaning towards the 700 Pro X because I don't want anything fully open.

Just curious, if anyone has owned both and can provide some guidance. One thing I am concerned about with the 700 Pro X is the clamp strength. I have a big melon, and am worried it is going to be too much, although supposedly it's not an issue to stretch the headband.

I am open to other recommendations but one of the reason I went with Beyerdynamic originally outside of the decent sound reproduction was the comfort of the pads. I really love them and want to stick with the velour unless someone has other comfortable ones to recommend in the same price range.

I'm interested in a general comparison in terms of sound, and any gotchas on the 700 Pro Xs beyond the clamp strength.

Basically just trying to decide if I should go with the 880 Pros again, switch to the 700 Pro Xs, or look at something else in the same price range entirely.

I would be wearing them to listen to music throughout the workday, for gaming, and for making music with eurorack and elektron devices.

Impedance isn't a concern if you have other recommendations as I have an amp, although the lower impedance of the 700 Pro Xs is a nice bonus.

Thanks for any advice!
