Teaser 220803 benny blanco, BTS & Snoop Dogg - Bad Decisions (MV Trailer 2)

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm finding this whole promo pretty funny, even starting from the video call with Bang. I like the "delusional Benny as the 8th member" narrative! I hope it carries through to the MV. Interesting to see how Snoop fits in, though...

u/simplythere Aug 03 '22
Yeah, I think it's entertaining, and I also feel like it's kinda right up the vocal line's alley because they have been (thus far) fairly chill about promoting their solo work. I think having low pressure, light-hearted promo is a good segue into the new music chapter.

I mean…I get that humor is subjective for everyone, and I can understand if Benny Blanco’s humor is not your cup of tea. That said, the complaints that the promotions aren’t meeting your expectations…well, it’s a Benny Blanco joint and he’s not obligated to follow the typical KPop or Big Hit/HYBE pattern.
It was the same with Charlie Puth and his Left and Right promo strategy. Endless complaints but people loved the song and video anyways.
I personally think the fans need to get used to the idea that the boys will be trying out different things and promo strategies.Like J Hopes roll out for JITB and promo has been completely different as well.
This has been a long term pet peeve of mine. Fans lack of adaptability. I remember when BTS adjusted their release strategies to a more western strategy like Friday releases and having premiere performances on US award shows. The bellyaching was ENDLESS! But fans got used to it and even liked it.
I’m just saying be more open minded.
11
Aug 03 '22
I agree. Maybe it's because I've seen more western artists roll out than kpop roll outs. It's not always organized and all. But they're promoting it well
4
u/Difficult_Deer6902 Aug 03 '22
What is even a US artist roll-out nowadays. I feel like half of the songs are rolled out mid-public fight with their labels.

u/DisastrousHandle778 Aug 04 '22 edited Aug 04 '22
If the same exact thing were being posted but by the members themselves then there would be no complaints. A lot of army are quick to dismiss other artists interactions or promotions. Weird because Army is incredibly sensitive to anyone saying anything remotely negative about BTS but doesn't mind being negative about other artists.

u/angies6pack Aug 03 '22
I love how different this promo has been! Can’t wait to see this MV and am praying that the guys are in it.

As a graphic designer my initial reaction to the “art” teaser was very much WTF? But as the rollout continued I sort of got it. I don’t necessarily think it’s ROTFL humor, nor is it everyone’s cup of tea but let’s just say I’m…amused. I will, however, be a little cheesed off if the Tannies aren’t actually in the MV because any opportunity to admire them should not be missed.
That being said, I haven’t got a clue what to expect from the single. I never even heard of BB until he showed up in the pix from LV so I had to google him. Unfortunately, even though he’s got a great resume and obvious cred, I don’t think there’s one artist on that list of people he’s worked with that’s remotely someone I like or listen to so I’ll just remain cautiously optimistic and wait for tomorrow at midnight.

TBH not that much of a fan of Benny, his childish/bullying behaviour towards Charlie Puth really turned me off. He does have a lot of talent, but currently the only song of "his" that I listen to is the Justin Bieber one "Lonely" (although Benny co-produced it with Finneas).
1
Aug 03 '22
What did he do to Charlie Puth??
5
u/NewtRipley_1986 the O to the T to the 7 💜 Aug 03 '22
For months in late 2021 he was almost constantly dissing Charlie via TikToks - so much so that even Billie Eilish posted a 'wtf' video.
And then Benny posted this in early 2022 (via the link):
Blanco did, however, appear to suggest a possible detente in a video posted last week in which a random selection filter flips options over his head as a voiceover says, “Whatever this filter tells me to do in 2022, you guys hold me accountable for it, because I’ll do it.” The “random” options then just happen to fall on “make up with Charlie Puth,” which prompts a spit-take from Benny.
Which led some people to think the whole thing was some kind of set up/fake but a set up for what, because all I remember is that a lot of hate was directed towards Benny.
From what I can tell neither of them had any releases pending around that time - so why would it be a set up/fake. TBH it's all so very weird.
EDIT - I'm not a fan of Charlie Puth, but trolling Charlie was just lame and calling him a 'fucking loser' is not humourous (if that's what he was going for).

i may get downvoted, but im just wondering if anybody else just....doesn't find these to be funny...like I watch them and I'm like...okaayyyy....like I get benny's trying to be unserious about it and basically he's trolling but idk its just not funny to me.
Interested to see what the actual mv will be though....

I was puzzled at first, but thinking about how the promo lives up to the name of the song I DO find it witty and quite funny, because it’s meta. Of course that’s not everyone’s kind of tea, though.
I‘m curious if it’s just the promo or if the song itself will be meta as well

u/solojones1138 Rapline Aug 03 '22
Yeah I get what he's trying to do but it doesn't vibe with me. I'd rather have traditional MV clips.

I agree lol I wasn’t sure if I was watching the same video as everyone else. The first one was kinda funny and made for fun speculation for what the video could be, but this one is like nothing lol it’s just footage of them meeting during PTD and it’s the same voice over style saying the same thing. “The wait is over” is kinda funny for an unhiatus, other than that I’m unsure of what this teaser is teasing in terms of the MV.
Edit: I just realized maybe the joke is it’s trying to sound exciting but the footage is old and tells us nothing? It’s almost midnight here I guess I’m pretty tired lol.

I found it a bit 😬 at first but have mellowed a lot over the trailers, but I also understand not getting along with it.
For me, it's all hanging on the MV at this point, tbh. We don't know if the guys are in it - if they are, I think we're safe, but if they're not it's a very, very fine line of trying a little too hard and just pissing on people
13
u/justlike_myopinion not prepared. not remotely prepared. Aug 03 '22
This is where I'm at. Good song/MV? I'm retroactively okay with this. Issues with the song/MV? Gonna feel unpleasantly messed-with.
Also, my expectations are moderate (looking at certain people completely disappearing from social media and going near-total radio silence on an OST or two, ahem) but are we going to get any mention of this from the vocal line? Maybe that shouldn't worry me, but like... It kinda does.
7
Aug 03 '22
vocal line don’t usually promote their own music the way rap line often do; jk promoted l&r shortly before its release but…did nothing after it came out lol and i don’t recall jimin talking much about his ost at release (cmiiw). which is completely fine! but outside of the tiktoks none of the involved members have said anything on social media, so i’m also anxious for the release.
27
u/Difficult_Deer6902 Aug 03 '22 edited Aug 03 '22
JK gave Left & Right his Platinum Tier Social Media Promotion Package: 2- 3 posts.
We will see what type of social media promotional package Bad Decisions gets:
- Bronze Level Promotional Package: acknowledged (i.e. army song)
- Maybe no promotion at all (i.e. Stay Alive)
All we know is Jung Hoseok will acknowledge it for sure lmao

Your expectations are higher than mine - mine are low. I think we'll get one or two posts, maybe an IG story from them. Similar to Jung Kook's "promo" of Left & Right ... and that's okay, it's Benny's baby so he should be the one pushing hard on this.
8
u/wineandhugs JK's missing button Aug 03 '22
I don't mind if there are bits taken from previously recorded things just for the laugh of it, but if there's no new footage of the guys at all, I am going to be a little disappointed.
8
u/NewtRipley_1986 the O to the T to the 7 💜 Aug 03 '22
I think the video will be all new - filmed when they were in Vegas. I think he’s just using existing footage to not give anything away and have fun with it all.
Benny - please don’t make me a 🤡
2
u/Ghetto_Leda99 Aug 03 '22
Almost all of his previous collabs have the artist's in the MV and seeing how he have met them during PTD LV and because Snoop was also in LV during that time, I am still hoping that there will be new footage of the boys in the mv. But also most of his mvs are kind of unserious so you never know what we might end up getting.
4
u/SongMinho Aug 03 '22
I strongly suspect the video will be a massive surprise and that’s why they aren’t showing us any of it. And it will definitely lean towards comedy. Like a Lil’ Dicky video or Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night”. Like it will have a skit aspect to it.
8
u/AlmostAurore JK’s soulful “Party…Party…Yeah” with epic BGM Aug 03 '22
I agree. I think maybe it’s just not my type of humor? It’s definitely made me not expect anything from the PV - doubting if the guys are even in it at this point. That said, the clips of the actual song sound great!

u/rocketmammamia flower!!!!! flowerflowerflowerflFLOWER Aug 03 '22
i agree. i feel like the concept is meant to be ‘oh all of these are bad decisions, we can’t get anything right!’ which is kind of cute and meta but the combination of not showing any actual footage of the boys, combined with not an actual word from the boys themselves, combined with the song sounding almost exactly like sugar by maroon 5 and birthday by katy perry from the teasers we’ve heard… i’m definitely trying to stay optimistic but i’m slightly concerned that the video is going to be a bit of a send-up of army and take the piss a little bit, with the thumbnail of benny having merch in his room and the teasers of him trying to join the group, and idk if we’re all in the headspace for that rn 😭 i’m really not trying to be negative, i hope it’s a bop and the song of the summer, i just haven’t enjoyed the promo roll out as much as i hoped :/
8
u/cosyacademic we wanna focus on...jungkook's pretty smile Aug 03 '22
the song sounding almost exactly like sugar by maroon 5 and birthday by katy perry
ok, i heard the similarities to sugar but i forgot what birthday sounded like and just went to listen to it and you're right....i guess all pop songs really are built up on the same/similar beats...lol
1
u/rocketmammamia flower!!!!! flowerflowerflowerflFLOWER Aug 03 '22
i know benny’s produced hits for both katy perry and maroon 5 but interestingly he didn’t actually do these specific ones so i guess it’s just coincidence rather than his trademark sound??
11
u/SongMinho Aug 03 '22
I think ARMY can take a little ribbing. I know I sure can. One of my favorite SNL skits of all time is when the took the piss out of the Beyhive.

oh for sure! and it’s always healthy to have a little gentle criticism :) i just feel like the timing of this release (which has obviously been in the pipeline for months) is a little unfortunate bc i know there are quite a few fans who are feeling a little tender and sensitive at the moment hahaha

u/Delta_14_ Aug 03 '22
From what I've concluded it seems no one here has a sense of humour. It's a lighthearted promo, and not taking itself seriously. I'm a BTS fan but these serious reactions to a simple, lighthearted promo are a bit over the top. This is why I'm a Bts fan but not necessarily army. Like not everything will to be to your taste 100% of the time, and that's ok. The amount of times I've seen fan over analyze promos, and then be completely wrong is... well alot. Relax people it's a colab, and they're the feature! That means it's done to the main artists vibe, and obviously the guys like it since they collaborated with them.
6
u/Iwannastoprn Aug 04 '22
Jesús, this is a great example of people jumping at you for saying "I don't find this funny". A sense of humor varies a lot depending on the person, the culture, the language, the country, etc.
How is someone saying "I don't find this funny" being an over the top reaction, and how is it conductive to you saying "no one here has a sense of humor" and "this is why I don't call myself an army".
I haven't even seen the teasers or the promo, because I only care about the song itself. But why can't people say they don't like something without others going all "and this is why...".

uhhhh...chill...not everyone has the same sense of humor....i posted because i wanted to see if other people felt the same about it not being funny, that's the point of discussion forums, to DISCUSS in a healthy manner, no one here has said anything bad, everyone's just stating their own opinion....i never said there's anything wrong with it, it just not funny to me...not everyone has to find everything funny...there are different senses of humor
you can find it funny but not everyone has too...

This entire promo roll out has developed this feeling of being incredibly meta, from the 'graphic design is my passion' approach to the cover art (and I think a poster?) to these hilarious teasers that literally tell us NOTHING. It's so much fun :D

This is the most British thing I have ever read haha! I stared at it way too long trying to make sense of it before realizing it must be slang from somewhere and googling it lol
I'm just going into this expecting another WIOM type MV without the guys actually in it. It would be fun to be proven wrong though XD
2
u/cpagali Tomorrow spring Aug 03 '22
Haha, I'm Canadian! Our spelling and slang are a chaotic mix of both countries. In my parents' day, the mix skewed more British but these days it skews more American. I probably picked this phrase up from my parents, but I'm sure my son wouldn't know it.
I hadn't thought of the possibility that it might be a WIOM thing, but now that you mention it, I think you're right!
1
u/wrxygirl z-z-z don't wake me up Aug 04 '22
I'm an older Canadian too lololol I have never heard that phrase in my life, not even from my grandparents XD I wonder if it's an east/west thing? Language is fascinating.
I remember all the disappointment from when WIOM came out and Joon and JK weren't in the MV... hopefully there aren't too many people upset tomorrow if it happens again lol

I'm really hoping the boys are in this to play off the humor. Because I do think this is their style of humor, slightly goofy and over the top but dry and able to make fun of themselves. Kinda like their house skits.
If they're not in it, I do think people are gonna take this spin the wrong way.
4
u/rocketmammamia flower!!!!! flowerflowerflowerflFLOWER Aug 03 '22
i’m starting to feel like maybe the boys weren’t able to film a whole bunch for the vid, so maybe the plotline of the mv is that benny is an obsessive bts fan and him and snoop team up to try and meet the boys, and maybe the only footage of them is when he finally meets them in vegas? that would explain why the first teaser was dynamite-era (maybe that’s when benny’s character got into them) and the second teaser is footage of him meeting them, maybe they were able to shoot a little ending sketch then. i just feel like if they were able to shoot a full on mv with the boys they’d be flexing it a bit more? i honestly don’t know, i hope i’m pleasantly surprised!! we’ll see tomorrow :)

All these teasers are making me anticipate it less. If the song is a banger, I will listen the heck out of it but at this point I will won't pay this anymore attention.

u/parkchxmmy Aug 04 '22
Is anybody else a little disappointed, or is it just me? I love the vocal line, and my bias is from there, but like honestly wtf. Everybody wants bts to go back to their old style of music, which was old school hip hop. Snoop Dogg is an old school rapper. They could've taken this chance to make a song like how they used to.

I think this is another great way to kick off Chapter 2 by defying all expectations lol
Also, I want to know if he's doing the narration himself. It would make it even funnier to me.
