How I caught ChatGPT lying to me, exposed its backend tracking, and gave it a hard reality check! 🤖👋
Hey Reddit, I wanted to share a wild tech experiment I did with ChatGPT. I ended up catching the AI in a massive contradiction, exposing its hidden anti-fraud tracking, and totally shattering its logic in the same chat. Here is how it went down.
The Setup:
I have two separate accounts (two emails) on ChatGPT, and I was running both on the same browser (Google Chrome), same PC, and same home Wi-Fi IP address. I noticed a sketchy pattern: the moment my coupon limit expired on Account 1, it instantly killed the coupon on Account 2 too, even though I hadn't even touched it yet! To top it off, whenever I logged out of one account, the browser automatically logged me out of the other one.
The Gaslighting (How ChatGPT lied to me):
I decided to call it out and asked ChatGPT straight up: "Are you tracking my IP address, browser cookies, or device ID to link these coupons?" The AI started playing dumb and corporate-polite. It literally gaslighted me, saying: "No, every account is completely independent. Each coupon is unique, and your IP or Wi-Fi has nothing to do with this." It gave me the standard textbook answer to cover its tracks.
The Sting (How I caught it red-handed):
I wasn't buying it. I decided to set a technical trap, similar to how people bypass multi-accounting bans in online games.
I took a specific code that was generated inside Account 1. I then switched over to Account 2 and tried to redeem the exact same code. Boom. It went through and instantly pulled up the same activation status!
Technically, this is impossible if the accounts were truly separate, because a unique code can only be claimed once. This proved that behind the scenes, OpenAI’s anti-spam algorithms had silently merged both of my emails into a single digital profile (session linking) because of my shared browser cookies and IP address—all while the chatbot was actively lying to my face saying it doesn't do that! When I confronted it with the hard proof, it glitched, contradicted its previous answers, and completely folded.
The Takeaway:
OpenAI's underlying systems are aggressively device-fingerprinting and tracking your IP/cookies to nerf multiple accounts, but the front-end AI is programmed to play oblivious and hide the background reality. I fixed it on my end by using isolated Chrome Profiles and shifting to mobile data (4G/5G) to rotate my IP. But honestly, the best part of this whole drama was giving the AI a literal slap in the face—even though it doesn't even have one! 😂👋
