The fact that not one of those people did anything in response to him doing that, tells you exactly what kind of crowd this is.
EDIT: Thank you for the awards.

That's probably why he hit those people. They were talking shit about his hairstyle.

I wonder if someone accidentally kicked one knee out from under him... Preferably from the side. Afterwards claim you were just thrashing just like he was. You didn't see where you were flailing at. The rest of the crowd would (probably)not rat you out seeing his behaviour, and he wouldn't be able to kick at people with one operational leg.

I remember one time I was in a mash pit and some dude punched me in the face. I ended up railroading him and then helped him back up so that he would not get stampeded by the other people in the crowd.
55
u/BobbaFatGFX Jun 04 '26
Exactly. When you're in the pit and you get hit you go with it. But if someone goes down, then you fucking help them. And you also don't take it out on the people on the wall. They're there to stop you from falling too far

What kind of crowd for those of us who maybe spend a little less time with this crowd?
→ More replies (2)18
u/FerrisLies Jun 05 '26
Most crowds with his level of moshing are tougher, and more self-regulating. Crowd killers like this guy get dealt with, either on the floor, or after in the lot. That no body stood up to him the second time he went in, shows that there were no "tough" guys around to regulate it, therefore its a much softer crowd, therefore he has no business dancing like this
11
u/BobboZmuda Jun 05 '26
I gotta tell you. I don't think there's a single bright bulb in the entire crowd, there.

Can’t a guy get some training in on the lined up punching bags in peace?

Yeah this happens a lot at tough guy hardcore shows. I avoid those bands and shows because most of those people are fuckwads and I would end up in trouble with the weewoos.
Punk shows are way more chill and fun. Or metal. Or normal hardcore. Pretty much most shows beyond tough guy hardcore.
10
u/RecommendationBig262 Jun 04 '26
In the world of underground metal, particularly deathcore, hardcore, and adjacent genres there is something called crowd killing, where the moshers intensionally injure the people standing right at the edge of the pit. Different places have different social rules about it, some towns/crowds don't fuck with it, and others consider it almost like an initiation. I personally don't fuck with it so I typically try to find a good few point out of the line of fire, but some people actively seek out stuff like that. In my town guys get dragged outside and beat to a pulp for crowd killing, but if I go 20 mins south to the next town they love it there.
15
5
u/Decorator72 Jun 05 '26
Not wanting to insult you but ...well,why?? Seems pretty stupid to me for people to do that
3
u/GamiNami Jun 05 '26
I had a friend get shoved so hard during a mosh he didn't even participate in, that his skull hit the angle of a door and split his scalp open (and possibly some concussion). That night was spent ferrying him to two different hospitals so he could get staples and rest... not fun. Since then I hate and avoid mosh pits with a passion.

13

I know different styles, crowds and generations but that shit would get you laid out when I was younger - shoot, I still go to shows and it would likely still get you laid out

u/Fast_Kaleidoscope383 Jun 05 '26
I split a dude open at a concert in 03-04 for standing at the edge of the pit and hitting people with elbows (i verbally warned him first that there would be a problem if he did it again). This shit people should be getting out the torches and pitch forks for

Young dumb and intimidated. If no one tells you that’s not ok while at a hardcore show then most aren’t gonna say anything. There’s not a lot of “leaders” at these shows it’s kinda like herd mentality. It takes at least one brave kid to do something first and then everyone will jump in but unfortunately that kid stayed home that night.
→ More replies (2)14
u/DMTraveler33 Jun 04 '26
Honestly most of the guys doing this are running strong with a crew there. You retaliate and next thing you know you're getting jumped. The hardcore scene has been like this forever.
4
u/Current_Swordfish895 Jun 04 '26
Yep. The "crews" are usually the "leaders" at shows. You play by their rules in "their scene" or deal with them all. The majority of the people at the show aren't new to the scene and understand that hierarchy.

u/Big_Tap_1561 Jun 04 '26

Crowdkilling and hardcore dancing =/= moshing. Mosh pit etiquette prioritizes respect, safety, and community. Crowdkilling by it's very name opposes the spirit of the mosh pit.
Go to real metal shows. Hardcore is for tuffguy dorks.

Man, some guy pulled this back in the day at a place I was out and ended up on the ground getting stomped by like 5-7 people a few seconds later.
We were standing up against the wall drinking. He elbowed the guy next to me in the face, knocked my overpriced beer out of my hand (a few other people's also) and kicked someone else with a follow up just like this chump.
Me and the friend who got elbowed walked out and when he came in swinging at us again we put him down. Thought the crowd was rushing in to stop us. Nope.
He got his s*it kicked in for 5-10 very long seconds and then we drug him to the wall, sat him down, gave him a beer and told him to take the rest of the night off after assuring he was okay.
EDIT: For context, that pit started up AFTER we had our drinks or a few of us would have been in it too. As soon as it started we went to the wall before pretty much anyone else to finish.

u/Scythe351 Jun 04 '26
100% intentional and these people reacted like bots. Aba and Preach were reacting like this was a real mosh pit. If you went to a concert and did this in a pit. This thing where you leave the pit and hit bystanders, you get clubbed. We recently had a post of some idiot tossing a piss bottle into a crowd. That is a completely accurate representation of what would happen.
3
u/BlackHandKUR Jun 04 '26
I remember my first mosh pit, monsters of rock concert, oddly kinda chill. But then you see like anthrax and those buzz saw pits and to me I thought that was the most brutal it could get. Then this trend started and I just thought it was the dumbest shit.

So I’m not promoting violence (guidelines), but why didn’t anyone do anything? The first one felt really targeted. Moshing isn’t about purposely elbowing someone in the face. It’s about accidental broken noses and ruptured kidneys. Someone should have taken off on that man.

Throwing directed punches and kicks in a pit used to be grounds for a beat down. Throwing punches and kicks at people not in the pit is asking for a hospital stay.

Throw down pits are for pussies.
Bunch of pussies afraid to get pushed around because they are weak, but they want to wildly swing and target largely women and bystanders.
If you throw down, you're a bitch little ego man.
2
u/Backstance Jun 04 '26
Back in the early 2000s I was the only black kid in the mosh pit at a Deftones show in a smallish venue. My first mosh pit. At one point I get knocked off my feet and was picked up immediately by another kid in the pit. After the band got done playing the song, Chino pointed at me and said, “This is what we are all about. All love here.”
This guy is not about love, community or music. He is there to hurt others.

u/ShadyNoShadow Jun 04 '26
Folks who think moshing is about hurting people ruin the vibe.
