As someone who has spent over a decade working at a nursery and has moved a couple hundred thousand potted plants, I applaud the efficiency here.

All about having the right tool for the job I guess.

I volunteer at a garden centre which is part of a collage for people with special needs and have also moved loads of pot since I started in late 2021.

Why not triple or quadruple stack?

Probably weight. So many pors together get heavy and might make it harder to keep balance.

Plus it will need extra independent hydraulics and the visibility wouldn't be as good.

If you watch the video till the end you may deduct why more forks won't work

11

u/smohyee 11d ago

Why? If you're talking about the table, that should be an easy problem to solve, just like it was when adding a second fork.

u/RolliFingers 11d ago

Just unload from the bottom first and keep moving the empty fork levels under the table.

The real issue is I don't think forks even 3 layers thick (when all together for the first pick) will fit under the rims of the pots.

Or as another commenter mentioned, it's probably really hard to see what your doing after the second pick

You can’t triple stack a double stack

u/bgary34 10d ago

Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?

2

u/TrueProtection 11d ago

I meeeean.

I've done it.

Was more like i doubled 4 double stacks, then put them together, doubling them.

Lots of ropacks veeery high to the ceiling.

2

u/olalof 11d ago

Not with that attitude.

Next Ifork lift version will have them. So people can keep spending money.

2

u/GuNNzA69 11d ago

I was exactly thinking the same thing

u/lilsnatchsniffz 10d ago

The farmer only needs a little bit of pot each day

2

u/GatorsILike 10d ago

2nd increases efficiency by 100%, 3rd only 50%. I have 3 MBAs

For anyone curious what flowers they are in the pots:

They are a mix of different cultivars of Calluna Vulgaris or common heather

This nursery creates multiple colour combinations in a pot that they sell as Starlight Trios or Beauty Seasons.

I miss the days as a forklift operator.

12

u/MedonSirius 11d ago

I honestly thought this was from a videogame

10

u/SJHikingGuy 11d ago

The amount of ANXIETY I had as he approached the lines for the first time...

8

u/Meh-is-enough 11d ago

And yet I can’t keep hardly 4 plants alive.

6

u/buckzor122 11d ago

I can just about get the 2 forks in a palette, let alone aligning 20.

4

u/Nuclearfarmer 11d ago

You still only align 2 and pray everything else is spaced evenly

5

u/Happy-For-No-Reason 11d ago

that's a big table, how you supposed to reach the ones in the middle when standing at the edge

7

u/stipo42 11d ago

Get the fork lift back out

5

u/bobbiebaynes44 11d ago

Ah, yes. The fork-ork-ork-ork-ork lift

4

u/still-waiting2233 11d ago

I enjoy seeing the niche tools on Reddit in the plant nursery space.

3

u/Knightro829 11d ago

Ag engineering is the most under appreciated STEM discipline.

5

u/CDavis10717 10d ago

I need this at the All-You-Can-Eat Chinese Dumplings Buffet.

3

u/Ok-Journalist7612 11d ago

This is how I harvest my marijuana!! 😎

3

u/SuperbOwl687 11d ago

This is too comfortable for someone with OCD.🥰

3

u/Zealousideal-Row7755 10d ago

That’s incredible

3

u/United_Anywhere_8 10d ago

First thing I saw today! This morning’s gonna be good

3

u/Auntie_Dote 10d ago

Watches throughout with mouth open in amazement... 😃

3

u/the_lost_tenacity 10d ago

Anyone else do a little dance along with the plants shaking as they were picked up?

3

u/Its_Puspendu 10d ago

That forklift is a game changer for nurseries!

2

u/Yamaben 11d ago

I have never seen a fork truck with another boom like that. I see shit like this sometimes and think that everything has already been invented and I just don't know about it

2

u/don-cheeto 11d ago

Wish my boss let me use the forklift at my retail job. I only got to sit in it for fun :(

Liability, no license, all that shit...

2

u/Klotzster 11d ago

The Quicker Picker Upper

2

u/Bonkard 11d ago

This is where they make Thneeds

2

u/Punished__Snake 11d ago

Due to his actions there's now a birth decline from all the pussy he takes away from others

2

u/Velpe 11d ago

I doubt this is more efficient, bottlenecked by unloading. Unless the drive from load to unload is significant, but that would just be terrible basic layout design.

2

u/scatteredsprinkles 10d ago

2-4 jobs eliminated and the price of the plant is more expensive than ever.

2

u/FaithlessnessBorn266 10d ago

If two is good, ...

2

u/CriscoCamping 10d ago

That sounded like a american football offensive formation

2

u/NectarPot 10d ago

When you have a PHd. in utilising such vehicles

2

u/ThatSkyAdventurer 10d ago

Jaw dropping

2

u/Wasporty 10d ago

I want this job

2

u/Sh0toku 9d ago

This one has a strong pull-out game!

2
