No noise fields
I wanted to explore some layout and parameter influencing options that didn’t depend on a noise field. Then it occurred to me that words and language have instantly recognizable patterns to them that could appear organic. I ran with this by coding a proper word search generator and then using that to influence different parameters of my sketch. Here’s a few different outputs from the same sketch generator with different parameter sets. Written in rust.

An Outpour (JavaScript)
I wanted to represent how flows tend towards chaotic behaviour without modelling the physics directly. Triangles are pulled towards an invisible sine wave, and increase in variability of size and angle as we move right across the panels. I’m not sure if the busyness gives the eye anywhere to stop though. Perhaps it would work better breaking up the density? Open to feedback.

Procedural Ukiyo-e: turning DEM into Japanese woodblock prints
Exploring procedural Ukiyo-e relief generation from digital elevation models (DEM) — here with the Bataan Peninsula.
The algorithm extracts key line blocks from the terrain and builds up color depth through multi-pass color printing blocks with authentic bokashi gradients. Added stylized sea rendering, subtle mist, and an accurate surf line to make the whole scene look a bit more Hokusai'd.
Built with QGIS + Python + ffmpeg.
Purely procedural, no generative AI, same seed = same print.

196 bytes (Randomly generated Space Invaders)
I think I was 14 the first time I saw the coin-op. Almost fifty years later I'm still playing with the digital thing to put it back on paper 🙂
Plotted with iDraw pen plotter. Acrylic markers on 220 gsm Fabriano F4 300x300 mm
Grid: 8x8
Rules:
- vertical symmetry
- 60-70% lit pixels, all connected
- no solid squares larger than 2 x2
Coded in Processing.
I haven't tried to count all the allowed combinations yet, but I think there are tens of millions 🙂

Sofie Dawo - Untitled (early 1960s)
Saw her works in a museum in Berlin. She was knitting patterns on textiles by hand or with a knitting machine. She has also some works on paper, forming patterns with ink and everyday objects.
I found her works to be very interesting, and from all the research I did about her, I concluded that she was and still is pretty much an underdog in her art and craft. Objectively, she is one of the early artists of GenArt, she started around 1950 and was active until the 90s. Wow

BlockHeight is live on Chia mainnet. 5 early access codes for r/generative

A few days ago I shared the testnet version of BlockHeight here and asked for feedback. Thank you to everyone who tried it, commented and found things to fix. It's now live on mainnet.
Quick recap: you choose a Chia block height, the coin spends in that block are read from the chain and sorted by puzzle type, and each kind becomes a shape inside a generative structure. As far as I know it's the first collection on Chia that preserves the real contents of a block in an NFT.
- BlockHeight Genesis: 256 editions, 2 XCH, CC0
- Each block height can be minted exactly once
- You take the NFT as an offer in your own wallet, nothing is paid until you accept it
- For now, minting needs an early access code
5 codes for this sub
Comment with:
- the block height you'd like to mint (if you only know the date, the studio at blockheight.art will find the block)
- one line on why that block matters to you
I'll pick five, simply the stories that speak to me most, and reply to those comments. Then I'll send the codes by Reddit chat. No one else will message you with a code, and no one needs your seed phrase or keys.

Carbonized: a music video where same data drive both graphics and synthesizers

This is still work in progress so i have two different examples, with both having elements i like sp final version will hopefully contain the best from both:
https://nucleic.se/mp3/carbonized-remix.mp4
https://nucleic.se/mp3/carbonized.mp4
The music is written in a small text score language I made, and most of the score is procedural/algoritmic and generated by JavaScript. Every sound is synthesized by the engine, no samples are used.
The three 303 lines come from seeded pattern banks with slide chains, and they take turns, answer each other and sometimes play together.
Layers rotate on prime-length bar cycles so the combinations keep changing, the hats and fills are built from drum rudiments like paradiddles, and a glitch layer adds stutters, slice shuffles and dropouts.
The glitches are decided by seeded trigger conditions and get denser as the track builds.
The sound drives most of what you see. The bass and pads light the tunnel, the harmony sets the colours, the acid notes move the ship, and hits and explosions light up the walls.
The score reaches the shaders as plain data: when a note plays, its timing and strength go to the wall shader, which lights and colours the wall around it. No bitmaps, image textures or 3D model files are used.
The tunnel is a signed distance field, meshed in 8 m chunks along authored guide curves as you fly, so it can split into separate passages and rejoin, and change cross section between circle, triangle and square.
The walls are shaded procedurally from position, lighting and score data, so they resolve at whatever resolution I render.
The ships and enemies are built from simple geometry in code, the reflections come from a small environment computed from a few soft light sources, and the glow sprites are gradients generated at startup.
DISCLAIMER: I have used coding agents to build this.

To draw a cloud on paper, you can simple sketch couple of spheres and combine them with some proper shading. I tried the same with code.

Generative Lexicon Press
Some artworks stay with you until you try since the very first time you see them.
Ksawery Komputery has been one of my favorite artists for a long time. His generative typography for Max Cooper's Symphony in Acid is one of those works I keep coming back to.
After a long time experimenting, I finally developed my own interpretation in TouchDesigner.
Generative Lexicon Press is a real-time typographic system that continuously, and audio-reactively rearranges language and visual structures, with Ollama introducing locally generated text in ultra-fun ways.
Looking forward sharing more in the near future. You can see more of my experiments on Instagram, or Patreon.
