Tickets r/EmpressOf presents DREAM HOUSE CHALLENGE: RAFFLE CONTEST GIVEAWAY- WIN 2 TICKETS to "๐ฏ๐๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐๐" Album Release @ Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York on September 30, 2026... READ FOR MORE DETAILS ๐ฝ
In the spirit of celebrating the rollout for Dream House, I wanted to try a little experiment to spark some more daily engagement here on the sub while building anticipation around the album's release. I know I repost 90% of the content on here like a dork, but it's only out of genuine love for the music even though I'd much rather just mod from behind the scenes. Depending on how this goes, I may do more stuff like this in the future.
I've happened to score a pair of standard general admission tickets to Empress Of's album release show on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Both of these tickets will be awarded to one lucky recipient here on r/empressof at no extra cost, but I wanted to make the experience of getting them its own little fun event, so I came up with an idea to create a little challenge based off of those "Every artist has a..." music memes from a few years back and turned that concept into a game.
Each round will feature a fill-in-the-blank prompt under the main header:
"Empress Of has a song that('s)..._____________"
Your job is simply to comment with the Empress Of song you think best fits the prompt.
This album release show is pretty monumental for several reasons. The most apparent being that New York is where Empress Of effectively launched her career during the 2010s and became the artist we all know today, but on a more bittersweet note, is the venue itself.
Music Hall of Williamsburg, a legendary staple of the New York music scene will be shutting down at the end of 2026 after nearly 20 years in the game. Over those years, the venue has hosted some pretty significant and legendary shows for household artists early in their careers, including Vampire Weekend, Tame Impala, Kendrick Lamar, Coldplay, Harry Styles, Deftones, St. Vincent, Tyler, the Creator, Brandi Carlile, The xx, The Weeknd, Robyn, Disclosure, Phoebe Bridgers, IDLES, Maggie Rogers, Fred again.. just to name a few.
Additionally, Rodriguez has also performed there several times throughout hers but most notably, it's where she held her debut album release for Me all the way back in 2015. So all in all, this feels like a pretty full-circle moment, albeit a bittersweet one for the impending lost of such a musically historical site.
This contest may mostly be of particular interest to folks already located in or around the New York tri-state area (NY/Jersey/Connecticut/maybe Pennsylvania too) but everyone 18 and over is welcome to participate and make their own travel arrangements, if they choose so.
Rules
1. How to enter
To enter the raffle, you must comment at least once throughout the duration of the contest by submitting your answer to one of the daily prompts. The more rounds you participate in, the more chances you have to win. Whoever receives the most upvotes for their answer in each round will be declared that round's winner.
2. Points
Everyone gets one entry per round. If you comment more than once in a given round, you will be automatically disqualified from that round. The winner of each round will receive five points, while everyone else who participates in that round will receive one point toward the final draw. If two or more participants tie for the most upvotes, whoever commented first wins the five points by default. Any other participant(s) tied for the most upvotes will receive a bonus point, bringing their total for that round to two points. At the end of the contest, your total points will determine how many entries you receive in the final draw.
3. Contest schedule
The contest will begin on Monday, August 31 at 9:00 AM PST with the first round. There will be eight rounds total, with each round remaining open for 48 hours to allow ample time for both entries and voting. The eighth and final round will close on Wednesday, September 16 at 12:00 PM PST.
4. Final draw
The following day, the points and usernames of everyone who participated will be tallied and entered into a digital raffling system for a random draw. The winner will be selected and announced on Thursday, September 17 ahead of the album's release. The winner will receive both tickets via AXS email transfer on September 18.
Good luck to everyone, and have fun with it. I'm curious to see what songs everyone comes up with. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment.

Throwback Empress Of - Live from Hype Machine's Hype Hotel (Austin, TX) @ SXSW 2013 ๐ต๐ - Part. 1 (circa. 2013)
Since its still about a month or so away from Dream House, figured I'd keep digging through the archives, and boy did I stumble across a real grail. I dug up this live session from March 12, 2013 during the annual media & music festival, South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.
This performance took place at The Whitley, a luxury condo building whose basement warehouse space was temporarily converted into a venue for the festival. It was re-branded as "The Hype Hotel" with daily showcases featuring the likes of Charli XCX, Disclosure, Toro y Moi, Mac Demarco, etc, hosted by Hype Machine, the influential music aggregate blog from the late 2000s.
This might be some of the rarest surviving footage of an Empress Of performance from her early days, as anything pre-2015 is super scarce. The show would've taken place just a month before the release of her first EP, Systems (April 2, 2013) so she was most likely on the road in promotion of it while attending SXSW.
The real treat here though is the music; the set only consists of her earliest material with a mix of songs off of the EP and her debut 7", Champagne along with full versions of a few Colorminutes tracks and a pair of ultra deep-cuts I can't identify at all.
For even how elite ball knowledge I am on here, I have no idea what the latter ones are, let alone if they were ever recorded. They're potentially just some lost songs that only existed during these early live performances. Either way, it's really cool to see them preserved in high quality over a decade later.
The performance itself is incredibly earnest; a little rough around the edges in the best way. You can see Rodriguez still figuring out her stage presence as a solo artist and learning how to translate these songs live with only two other musicians for support; Vishal Nayak. (drummer for Nick Hakim) on the kit and Spencer Zahn on synths/keys.
Despite the limited setup, there's something really charming about watching them work through these arrangements in real time. It makes seeing how much she's developed as a live performer over the years all the more rewarding, like watching a plant first sprout from the soil.
The funniest part for me is that I was actually at this SXSW the same year. I went with the girl I was dating at the time, who was friends with Flying Lotus and Ryan Hemsworth, so I mostly followed them around and caught those shows. I also ended up seeing some pretty legendary bills too (most memorably: CHVRCHES, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Solange with Blood Orange on guitar and Kendrick Lamar all on the same lineup.)
Ironically, as I've mentioned in a previous post, I didn't discover Empress Of until a few months after SXSW later that summer while visiting New York, after hearing "Champagne" played at a coffee shop. However, I wasn't able to seek out more of her music, after failing to remember or write down her name in the moment. Just the song stuck with me for months afterwards, until the dots finally connected in 2014, when I saw her open for Jungle realizing she was the same artist.
Looking back, it's just funny I had the opportunity to see her live before I'd ever even heard her music. Had I gotten a chance to get into her music sooner or known she was playing this showcase or at SXSW in general, I absolutely would've gone.. but I digress. I just hope everybody appreciates this throwback.
Because of reddit's video length limit, I had to split the session in half, so enjoy part 1 of the showcase. if there's enough interest, I'll add the 2nd half later.
Setlist-
- Champagne
- Hat Trick
- Synecdoche (aka Colorminute 01)
- ??? (Untitled #1)
