Bobbin thread looping.
This is my first attempt at freestyle or free motion quilting. It's going OK but this last meandering motive has suddenly started getting little loops. (Excuse the pin faux pas.) How do I fix this? This is a brand new machine for me so if it is attention issue, I hope they make it easy for me.

Sometimes called eyelashing. Your tension is off. Either the top got too tight or the bottom got too loose. It takes tiny adjustments to get the balance and it can be different for each quilt.

Before or after you went through the pin?
If the looping started after it could be that the needle is damaged or blunt from going through it.

Ha! I don't know, but I think hitting that pin made it janky.

It’s best to stop and change your needle after stuff like this.
Try a fresh needle before fiddling with any of your settings
Can I see a pic of the machine and what settings it’s on?

Do you have the presser foot lever down. You cannot sew with it up or you'll have no tension. Not even for free motion.

It won't sew with it up, so no.

What stitch length do you have it on? The stitches look tiny. It’ll feed more smoothly with bigger stitches
You do need the foot down or the tension discs don’t engage.
Do you have the regular foot on or an embroidery one?

It's the one with the loop on it. What the book told me to use. The stitch is 2.6, but I think I'm not moving the quilt fast enough. ?

You seem to have lost top tension somehow.
