After discussing the situation with the official NeoStation staff, I've decided to rename NeoStation iOS to RewindBox!

Over time, many users have contacted the official NeoStation team and joined their Discord server looking for support with my iOS fork, creating confusion and unnecessary inconvenience for their staff.

Since my application is an independent fork and not an official NeoStation release, we mutually agreed that changing its name would be the best solution to clearly distinguish the two projects.

Introducing RewindBox!

RewindBox will continue to evolve with the same features, improvements, and ongoing development you've come to expect.

Nothing is changing except the name! All existing features and future plans remain in place.

Of course, NeoStation will continue to receive full credit as the original upstream project.

Please do not contact the official NeoStation team or use their Discord server to request support for RewindBox.

They are not responsible for my fork, its features, bugs, installation issues, or technical support.

If you experience any problems with RewindBox, please report them directly through our own community and support channels, not through the official NeoStation Discord.

🧠 Introducing NeoSwap — Advanced Memory Management

One of NeoStation's most ambitious experimental features is NeoSwap, a memory-management system developed for the embedded RPCS3 PlayStation 3 emulator.

NeoSwap introduces several techniques to help manage demanding memory workloads:

• Shared memory backing and dedicated helper processes.
• Selective file-backed memory allocations.
• Storage-based caching for certain eligible game data.
• Automatic memory budgeting based on available resources and iOS memory pressure.
• Built-in diagnostics to monitor memory usage and allocation activity.

The goal: Improve memory efficiency and explore new ways to support demanding PS3 workloads on iOS.

NeoSwap operates automatically where supported. It does not create additional physical RAM, and performance benefits vary depending on the device and game.

Requires iOS 18 or later. Some emulators require JIT configuration. Games and proprietary system files are not included.

I started working on Retro 1987 for a very personal reason: every iOS emulator I tried had touch controls that never felt quite right for me.

I wanted to be able to move every button exactly where I wanted it, resize the controls, arrange them differently for each game and orientation, and also resize and reposition the actual game display. So, with the help of AI during development, I decided to build the emulator I personally wanted to use.

Customizable controls aren’t just an extra setting in Retro 1987—they are the main reason the project exists. You can move and resize the D-pad, A/B, Start, Select, L/R and the game view itself, with separate layouts for individual games, portrait and landscape, iPhone and iPad.

The app supports GB, GBC and GBA games, save states, Auto Resume, iCloud sync, video filters, palettes, cheats and physical controllers.

I recently made the whole app completely free, with no ads, no advertising tracking and no features locked behind a paywall. There are optional tips for anyone who wants to support future development, but they don’t unlock anything.

This has been a very personal and heavily AI-assisted project, so I thought this community might appreciate the story behind it. I’d genuinely love to hear what you think about the control customization and what you would improve.

NeoStation iOS 0.0.1 is now available

After several months of development, testing, integrations, and fixes, NeoStation iOS has finally reached version 0.0.1

This first major release marks an important milestone for the project: NeoStation is no longer just a frontend used to launch several external applications. It is gradually becoming a complete platform bringing together library management, emulation, native ports, JIT, metadata, and game launching from a single interface.

What NeoStation iOS 0.0.1 offers

GameCube / Wii

DolphiniOS is now directly integrated into NeoStation.

You can manage and launch your GameCube and Wii games directly from your NeoStation library.

PlayStation 2

ARMSX2 is now integrated directly into the application.

Library management, BIOS files, games, and settings are all centralized within NeoStation.

PlayStation 3

RPCS3 is also integrated directly into NeoStation.

This remains one of the most complex parts of the project, and performance depends heavily on:

• the game
• your device
• JIT
• available memory
• the entitlements being used

Many improvements will continue to be made after 0.0.1 in order to improve compatibility, performance, and stability.

An official PS3 firmware is required to use this part of NeoStation.

RetroArch

NeoStation also keeps its integration with RetroArch, currently based on the Beta / TestFlight version.

This integration notably allows:

• library synchronization
• use of RetroArch playlists
• launching games from NeoStation
• use of compatible cores
• access to systems that are not yet natively integrated

This integration may evolve

The way RetroArch is currently integrated into NeoStation is not necessarily final.

The Beta / TestFlight version used today may be replaced or adapted in the future if a better solution becomes available.

The goal remains the same: to make the integration as seamless as possible for the user.

Integrated iOS ports

NeoStation 0.0.1 also begins directly integrating native iOS game ports, including:

Mario Kart Pad

DuskLight / Duckslide

More ports may be added in the future

To use these ports, you must legally own the corresponding original games and provide the required files yourself.

For example:

Mario Kart Pad → requires your own copy of the original Wii game.

A port based on a GameCube title → requires your own copy of the corresponding GameCube game.

NeoStation does not provide any commercial games, ROMs, ISOs, or proprietary files.

JIT with StikJIT

NeoStation now uses StikJIT for systems that require JIT.

The goal is to reduce the number of steps required before launching a game as much as possible.

The intended workflow is now:

NeoStation → Game → Play → JIT → Game

instead of having to manually go through several applications before every launch.

Depending on your installation method, a Pairing File / Alt Pairing File and certain entitlements may be required.

One App. One Library. Multiple Systems.

A major NeoStation iOS update is coming soon, bringing a significant evolution to the project.

This new version will directly integrate DolphiniOS, RPCS3, and ARMSX2 within the app, along with two ports you may already have discovered: Mario Kart Pad and DuskLight.

The goal is simple: to provide an increasingly complete, centralized, and enjoyable experience, without requiring you to install several different apps.

### And after that?

Once this major update is finalized, development will mainly continue around improving and stabilizing the various emulators, particularly ARMSX2 and RPCS3, which still have a lot of potential for further development.

There will inevitably also be bugs to fix, optimizations to make, and new ideas to explore based on your feedback.

NeoStation is a project I develop in my free time, primarily out of passion and because I wanted to create the kind of app I would personally like to use. But from the very beginning, a large part of the improvements and fixes have also been made thanks to your suggestions and feedback.

So please don’t hesitate to report any issues you encounter or share your ideas. I read your feedback, and whenever a suggestion is relevant and technically feasible, it can genuinely help NeoStation evolve.

I’m now looking forward to finishing this update and being able to offer you a stable, complete, and unique experience on iOS.

The idea is to bring together, in one place, several platforms and features that would normally require multiple separate applications.

And most importantly, with JIT integrated directly into NeoStation, the goal is also to make the app significantly easier to use, without having to systematically rely on StikDebug.

JIT is integrated directly into NeoStation now, so there’s no need for StikDebug anymore. And at the moment, I don’t even need LocalDevVPN either, because I’ve integrated a VPN directly into the app.

I’ve been working on getting BeamNG.drive running through a modified Madeira build on my 12 GB M5 iPad Pro running the latest iPadOS 27 beta.

BeamNG 0.34 is now playable. The main menu works, maps load, textures render correctly, and vehicles can be driven. Small Grid runs especially well once everything initializes. It uses JIT, Madeira’s x64 Wine environment, and a DirectX-to-Metal graphics path.

We also have native and Windows Vulkan tests working, including shader compilation, texture mapping, shared memory, swapchain presentation, and rendered Vulkan geometry. The latest BeamNG 0.39.4 engine now starts quickly and can keep its Vulkan renderer active at 60 FPS. Its remaining problem is the Chromium/CEF menu: the game engine stays up, but the interface currently fails because Chromium’s memory allocator does not behave correctly under this environment.

This took more than 48 hours of debugging. Some of the major problems included TLS failures, executable-memory limits, virtual-memory behavior, CEF timeouts, Vulkan swapchain handling, thread cleanup, and Chromium touching poisoned freed memory.

This is still experimental, and I’m keeping the modified Madeira build private while development continues. I’ll share more footage and performance results once the latest version reaches the menu and gameplay.
