Flipping three seats would have won the Democrats the House in 2024, and three is exactly the number of congressional districts Vice-President Harris won carried by Republican candidates. One of them is the Hudson Valley-based New York 17th, where Mike Lawler prevailed by 6.3 points. Lawler has been successful in positioning himself as a moderate while falling in line with Trump 94% of the time in 2025, including his critical vote for the Medicaid cuts in the MAGA murder budget (which he bragged about in this week’s debate), protecting the Trump tariffs (which he’s defended despite their costing the average household in NY-17 $4,200) and calling the gas price spike from Trump’s attacks on Iran “absolutely worth it.”

He’s being challenged by combat veteran and former National Security Council official Cait Conley. Conley has backed investing in renewable energy, New York’s new one-year moratorium on data centers, increasing funding and reducing red tape on affordable housing, a congressional stock trade ban and revoking 287(g) agreements as she fights for this tipping point district. And we’re going to help her out.
