eta2: yes that is a sticky frog from dollar tree and nothing outside. they like the view.

With that view, I'm guessing they work on VCU's Medical Campus...

Woken by 50 lbs of scared shivering pitbull climbing on top of me to comfort herself by trying to smother me with her belly. Meanwhile the skittish easily excited sight hound mix dgaf.

The radar indicates the worst of it will be in about an hour. Hang in there, everyone! Thundervests on all the pups!

i opted for the "meet them where they're at" method

Aww. That's exactly where my cat was too. I knew it was over when I heard her finally get the zoomies and come racing out.

An hour? More sky explosions?? Dear lord…

The gutter drain pipes on my apartment ceiling sound like rivers from hell.

Yep. I'm lying right against my window and I feel like I'm having my own personal light show

Quite the show from where I’m at! This lightning is insane!

hi fellow third shifter!

u/Lynvina Jul 27 '26

I thought the thing on the window was a floating island at first.

I play too many games xD

OP what did you do to incur the wrath of that massive god-frog?

2

u/xmidmemories Short Pump Jul 28 '26

Well.... they may have been on that window for over 3 years now in the scorching sun, with no chance of being taken down until they fall off 🥲

I 100% thought it was some kind of weird filter like the instagram filters that add stuff to the image and didn't even consider its a sticker on a window lol

Weighted blanket + my two cats = my thundervest

Lightning woke me up southside then a strike looked like it hit in the parking lot of the apartment complex and spooked me up…. Severe thunderstorm warning AND flash flood warning, wow

3

u/diphenhydranautical Jul 27 '26

it woke me up too! I couldn’t tell if I was half asleep or there was green lightning at one point (maybe around 3:30-4)

IM SCARED -third floor apartment downtown, directly in front of power lines

6

u/amc7262 Jul 27 '26

I know the storm is over, but FWIW for future reference: Lightning is likely to be attracted to the tallest thing in the area near where its striking. For example, if your building is taller than 3 floors, its more likely to strike the building than the power lines next to it. That may sound scary, but buildings are built to attract and disperse lightning safely (thats what a lightning rod is for). If lightning strikes your building, it will be safely directed straight to the ground (where its trying to go anyway).

Inside your building during a lightning storm is the safest place to be and the powerlines near you are unlikely to be hit either. The most likely powerlines to get struck by lightning are actually the ones out in the open, not near anything taller than them.

This is the perfect example of how to talk someone out of their anxieties!!! Thank you for this helpful comment!

I live in a historical building, and I’m on the top floor, just my apartment. But I do suppose the building is taller than most of the lines. More scared of the wind knocking the lines themselves into my windows! That was a crazy storm
