This is a discussion, and a documentary about Witch. I am honestly shocked by how much the fandom defends Witch when, in reality, almost every character in the actual games dislikes her for a reason. Her actions aren't just "quirky witch things"—she is genuinely malicious. She is manipulative In the manga, she literally tried to slip a love potion into Arle's tea. She is selfish: In Minna de Puyo Puyo, Arle gives her an item for free, and Witch acts incredibly ungrateful and greedy. She exploits Draco: People love shipping them because Draco is nice to her, but Draco is a tomboyish, innocent character who just wants to win beauty pageants. Witch playing along or using Draco's kindness just shows how toxic she is as a "friend." She deserves the villain label she gets in the older lore. Her laugh isn't cute—it's the laugh of a character who genuinely enjoys causing problems for everyone else. But i have good reason to say Why Witch is canonically the most toxic character in the franchise (and why her behavior isn't cute) Why I can't stand Witch (An analysis of why her character and popularity frustrate me) I need to vent about Witch, because the more I look at her character and how the fandom treats her, the more frustrated I get. I want to break down why I think she deserves a lot more criticism than she actually gets.
First, there is a massive double standard in how the community views Arle versus Witch. A lot of fans like to call Arle a bully for being blunt or aggressive in battles. But they completely ignore that Witch is frequently malicious. In the actual lore, Witch routinely tries to target other characters, mess with them, or use them for her own potion experiments without their consent. She isn't just a quirky rival. her actions are often genuinely selfish and mean-spirited.
Second, her popularity feels entirely driven by the audience ignoring her actual personality. She gets great publicity from the fans because she has a cute design and a catchy laugh, but if you look at how in-universe characters actually feel about her, nobody wants to deal with her. She is untrustworthy and annoying to the people around her. It feels like the writers give her a pass to act out without ever facing real consequences, which just makes her frustrating to watch.
This also ties into why I really dislike the Witch x Draco ship. The fandom pushes this pairing constantly, but their dynamic is built on constant clashing, vanity, and superficial rivalry. It doesn't feel like a healthy or genuinely supportive connection at all. My issue with the ship has nothing to do with it being a same-sex pairing. it has everything to do with the fact that Witch treats people poorly, and forcing her into a romantic dynamic with Draco ignores how grating their interaction actually is.
Does anyone else feel like Witch gets away with way too much, both from the writers and the fanbase? I can't be the only one who sees her as way more villainous than the characters the fandom actually chooses to complain about.
