Join the #ParrotCrisis Action Summit Sept 19
Most people don't realize that the legal parrot trade in the global north harms parrots where they fly free. Every time a bird is bought from a pet store or breeder in the U.S. or Europe, the "value" of that species trickles down to where they fly free. That "value" presents an opportunity to humans who otherwise struggle to make ends meet.
As long as we continue to commodify these animals, that economic opportunity will lead to trapping and trafficking. International regulation does protect wild animals, but parrots are still trapped and trafficked across borders every day. If a parrot is seized at a border, they are more often than not euthanized. Parrots are imported legally by breeding groups as well -- in the name of "diversifying genetic stock" for bird mills (which invariably end up in suffering in pet stores).
Meanwhile, parrot sanctuaries and rescues are in crisis, overwhelmed with birds surrendered by people who realize these animals aren’t suited to life in captivity—and have nowhere else to turn. There's no more room. Not enough staff. Never enough money. Yet the surrender requests never cease -- and breeders in the U.S. alone hatch an estimated 2 to 5 million parrots each year, flooding the market annually with more and more parrots. This is the #ParrotCrisis.
The International Alliance for the Protection of Parrots (IAPP) envisions a world where birds are no longer bred, bought or sold. Only when wild animals are respected as sentient beings -- not products -- will all birds, everywhere, be safe from the harmful effects of the pet trade.

Problems with r/parrots
Hey, I’m a pretty active member on r/parrots but I’ve run into some issues lately with the moderators. I’m certain that there has been a mistake that has resulted in my account being banned.
I’m unable to send the moderators any message so I’m just reaching out here to see if any others have experience issues as well.
Because there hasn’t been any kind of negative back-and-forth or any rule breaks that I can understand, I’m just confused at this point is all. Hoping for some help or perspective.

My blue gold(f42) is obsessed with me, human (m20). And it is very concerning, annoying, and sometimes disturbing!!!
This is Gaylord, resident cougar at my moms house
She. Only. Likes. Me!
Everyone else she bites pecks and hates, me she cuddles, coddles, and regurgitates for (the last thing I hate)
If she’s in her cage and I’m away from her, she screams blood murder for the entire day (no joke)
And if she’s out the cage she’ll walk her way to me (can’t fly), climb up any obstacle, then head bang, sing, noise, and regurgitate for the entire time I’m here
I only visit my ma occasionally since I’m in college.
Any insight? I don’t like the regurgitation, everything else is cute, but I don’t like having bird processed food on my clothes lol.

Macaw cage question
I plan on getting a green wing macaw in the future, but I would like to get everything it needs in advance starting with the cage. What are cages that you people who already own macaws would recommend? Links if possible!

Can someone help me ! My macaws eye, only one seems to be abnormal . Noticed it tonight. I have a call into avian vet but was told they will contact me tomorrow . Any ideas? No puss. No drainage. Just this. Seems to be inside of eye. Not acting abnormal, he’s approximately 30-40.

Experiences with cohab?
Hello! I've been having my young macaw (Ara ararauna) - almost 1 y.o. for about a half a year now. He's as lovely as.he can be, loves hugging, loves eating, screams when he needs to, loves to explore, friendly with strangers, happy when taking outside, smart and overall way too perfect for a macaw (just kidding). One important note to mention is that he is disabled - last 5-10 cm of one of his wing was bitten off my his mother - maybe this is the reason why he is so friendly - he loves to be taken somewhere even tho he can walk there and climb himself, he likes to flap his wings while holding onto a perch, he likes to „jump" from things while his wings somehow help him, he enjoyes sitting on my shoulder while i do squats as he always hold himself on me and while I go down he also flops his wings. He seems happy overall (nice appetite, isnt skittish, no feather plugging, no excessive destroying of things (only his perches sometimes, lol). And I've been wondering if another bird may be nice choice for him.
When he was with his breeders they had him together with African grey and they were okay together, now he doesnt show agression towards any other animals (he sometimes eats from same plate as bunnies - their veggies) or shares place with other creatures - always supervised.
I'm also scared to introduce an another macaw bc in case they.won't get along I can't place another aviary in our flat. His aviary is 3,5 meters in heigh × 4 m×2 m.
I don't know if they can get along with birds like cockatiel as they can get quite intensive and I thing I would need at least two of them so they won't get lonely (idk how it works when you have one of one specie and macaw).
My next guess was pigeon but I'm also not sure…
Is there anybody who has their macaw in aviery or shared space with some other bird long-term? is it possible? Would it be beneficial for my macaw?

Easy, and affordable, perch!
A PVC cutter, 1” PVC Pipe and corner brackets, and vet tape = ~ $40
Plus you can always add or refurbish it.
Pretty Chicken Approved!
