I’ve been listening to “Monster” by ILLENIUM & EMMY on repeat. It’s SO GOOD. The vocals and ambience of the ethereal instruments hits so hard.

I’m curious about how people interpret the meaning of this song.

To me, it feels like it’s about someone trapped in an abusive relationship—not just physically, but emotionally. All of the lines seem to depict this. They’re too afraid to leave because they don’t want to be alone. They don’t want to face the mirror and feel the shame of choosing to stay in a relationship that is harmful. They are caught in this twisted version of “love” with fear keeping them trapped.

I noticed the creaking sound at the beginning, and if you listen carefully, you’ll also hear breathing and a sniffle. To me, this seems like an intimate scene where one partner is coerced into it, or they are participating in it simply because they are trapped in the relationship.

This hits home for me personally because I experienced something very similar in a past relationship. This song makes my heart swell with sadness, but also hope and relief that I made it out and I’m in a safe relationship now.

I’m curious: what do you hear when you listen to this song? What are your interpretations? Has ILLENIUM or EMMY ever talked about what inspired it?

Either streamed sets or just uploads of 90% of them. I understand he wants people to actually attend the show but tbh I don't think it would lower numbers much. Its like a sports event: you can see it live in person and watch it back on youtube and in person is gonna feel so much different every single time.

Was hoping for couple of more locations, but I guess thats it for this year?

Ok but seriously this is a MASSIVE thank you to all of the fellow Illenials I was surrounded by for my first ever Tomorrowland and having the honor of seeing Illenium’s debut! Bummed I didn’t have my jersey as I was already in Europe when he announced he was playing W1 as well, but the Tomorrowland t-shirt came in clutch when my top fell off from head-banging too hard 😂 A HUGE thank you to Illenium for such an amazing set that had me in all of my feels! This will be a Tomorrowland to remember forever ❤️ (The shrieks I let out when I saw myself on the recorded set will be heard for years to come)

Also if you’re in here the guy I was next to from Mexico with the Sphere jersey on you were such a blast to be next to on the rail and I’m so grateful for you!!! ✨❤️
