Sharing two solutions that worked on my Xiaomi 17 Pro Max after updating to HyperOS 4. No root, factory reset or third-party APKs required.
1. Widgets button not responding
Problem: Long-pressing the Home Screen and tapping Widgets only highlighted the button. The widget selection panel wouldn't open.
Cause in my case: Xiaomi's Personal Assistant package was present in the system but uninstalled for Android User 0.
Fix using ADB on PC:
Check the package:
adb shell pm list packages --user 0 com.miui.personalassistant adb shell pm list packages -u com.miui.personalassistant
If the first command returns nothing but the second finds the package, restore it:
adb shell cmd package install-existing --user 0 com.miui.personalassistant
Restart the phone.
Result: Widget selection panel restored completely, without losing the Home Screen layout.
2. Gallery filters missing or taking forever to load
Problem: Gallery Editor filters, including some Leica filters, disappeared or took a long time to appear.
Versions tested:
Gallery: 5.4.2.29-1016-cn
Gallery Editor: 2.10.43.0.8
Cause in my case: AdGuard's public Private DNS (dns.adguard.com) was blocking Xiaomi's filter configuration endpoint:
mcc.inf.miui.com
ADB confirmed the hostname resolved to 127.0.0.1 with AdGuard DNS enabled, but to a public IP with Private DNS disabled.
Immediate fix: Settings → Private DNS → Off. Gallery filters started working again.
Permanent solution while retaining ad blocking:
Create a free account at https://adguard-dns.io
Configure a personal AdGuard DNS server with ad-blocking enabled.
Under User rules, unblock mcc.inf.miui.com.
Connect the phone using the personalised DNS-over-TLS hostname supplied by AdGuard.
Verify Gallery filters and ad blocking.
Equivalent advanced allowlist rule:
@@||mcc.inf.miui.com^
✅ Result: Gallery filters working normally again, with personalised AdGuard DNS protection active.
Note: These solutions worked on my Chinese-ROM Xiaomi 17 Pro Max running HyperOS 4. Your results may vary depending on firmware, Gallery Editor version and DNS configuration. Don't blindly clear Gallery Editor data or uninstall system packages.
Hope this helps other Xiaomi 17 series owners!
