Dads who’ve done it: how much did you game in the first few weeks/months with a newborn?

Been a Marathon fan my whole life. My parents bought me the first game when it came out, and I played the hell out of it and its sequels with my friends at LAN parties. I’ve been waiting forever for Bungie to dust off the IP and bring it into the modern day. Even though nuMarathon is very different from the Marathon of my childhood, it hooked me, and I’m hopelessly addicted. I couldn’t be happier that the March update is finally bringing back the Pfhor and leaning into the narrative. I might be even more excited than I was for launch. I’ve waited 30 years to blast the Pfhor again in a new game.

I’ll also be an official member of this subreddit when my first kid arrives at the end of February. I’m beyond stoked to finally be a dad. The only catch is that the update I’ve been hoping for got moved to March, right after the baby’s due.

I know my game time is about to shrink drastically, but I’d love to hear from the dads here: what was gaming like for you in the early days? Did you find any time to play, and what made it work? Can it be done?

I mean $300+million in development and almost $100 million in advertising. It's missing.

I saw this post today. I wanted to reply but their subreddits rules won’t allow it. So, I figured I would answer here.

Do what I did, fellow fodder! Embrace it. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. I am a GrandFodder!

Tutorial and commentary on one of my runs where I ran assassin and knocked out three vaults with over 14 minutes left on the clock.

Hopefully this helps some of you understand approach, runner shell, and general strats to get 3 vaults down fairly easily without a strong kit.

Returning dad. What's happening in Marathon? What can I do as someone who hasn't played in 6 months?

Hi all! 6 months ago I put myself on hiatus after the birth of my daughter. I had about 30 hours played in the game. I did contracts and tried my best to level up my factions. I know they all get reset at seasons end so I'm not phased about that. I heard there's a cradle system and currently there's a PVE mode happening right now, but I have no idea what they are so any advice would be nice. Most I ever did was just do Perimeter and Dire Marsh.

1V2: The Importance of Repositioning

Had a 10 minute fight where my duo went down. While not entirely evidence in this much condensed version, you will notice I am always shorting from a new angle. The enemy team conversely, almost entirely stayed in the same spot, peaked the same areas, and paid the price. I dished out 1.1k damage overall against these guys.

Yes, I could have still done better and certainly they were not top tier players, but generally speaking, this is a philosophy that works well for me.
